How long to kick in?

First mounjaro jab this morning. I still feel exactly the same. No symptoms, no appetite suppression. Just finished a big curry and feel like more (i suppose it is new years eve, but I guess I thought I'd feel full after just a bit. But I didn't).

When should I expect it to kick in? or maybe not til 5mg or more?

:(

It takes between 8 to 72 hours for the medication to reach peak levels in your body, so the level is likely still building. So don't lose hope just yet. Some people do find that it takes till higher doses to have a full effect, or it may be that you start to experience the effect after another dose or two of the 2.5mg.

Thanks! That's quite reassuring :)

It's different for everyone. Personally it didn't kick in at all for me on 2.5mg.

healthybychristmas · 31/12/2024 21:20

If you've eaten a big curry then you might have an uncomfortable night. One of the ways it works as by making you feel more for more quickly and it does take longer for food to pass through your system. Personally I wouldn't drink any alcohol from now on as that gave me a taste of acid the next morning. When I had the first injection I felt it from the next morning.

murraymcgill · 31/12/2024 21:27

@MjMadness mine was really quick on 2.5 now on 5 it's not so good but not sure whether to move up on go back down

Mysticmaiden2024 · 31/12/2024 21:33

Took 2-3 days for me on each dose I've tried, currently on 7.5mg. You do need some will power too and to be in calorie deficit as the jab is not a magic weight loss burner on its own. So try to say no to more and more food and snacks

LookatthemTed · 31/12/2024 21:34

They do say that everyone is different, so I am interested to see how it will pan out for me. I have about 3 stone to lose.

Barely kicked in for me at 2.5 mg of Wegovy. I lost a few pounds in the first week strangely (water?) but then literally nothing the next 3 weeks.

But I’m OK (sorta!) with that. It is a bit strange when you read other people losing a stone in the first month!

There just wasn’t much suppression for me. On the positive side I had minimal side effects. I also have always been one of those people who take a while to start to lose weight properly. It was also the Christmas period and though I eat fairly healthy, I did enjoy those roast dinners and had a couple of extra treats which may have impacted.

I’ve just swapped to Mourjana and - unfortunately have to start at 2.5 mg there as it’s a new drug - so will be another few weeks before I can move up to 3.7 mg or 5 mg.

I have started a bit of exercise too now, and am pleased with finally getting that off the ground. I’m not too worried about it taking a bit longer. I know there is no other way I can lose weight, as I have tried every thing, so I am prepared to be patient. Anyway, losing weight at a slower reasonable pace is a healthier way, as I should be able to maintain energy levels and not have too many side-effects (I hope).

It took 24 hours for me.

But you really do need to change your eating habits. Eat well, lots of protein, fruit, veg and drink loads of water.

If I ate a really big meal it would be very uncomfortable - you might regret it tomorrow🫣.

Newhi · 31/12/2024 21:36

Wegovy for 6m and didn’t really feel any difference. On month 2 of mounjaro and don’t feel anything as yet. Hoping it will kick in soon!!

Darlinghag · 31/12/2024 21:39

Mine can vary, sometimes its within 8 hours ( I jab Sunday night, so high suppression Mon/Tues) and then lately I am finding peak is days 3/4, so Weds/Thurs I am at highest!

Thanks all.

I'm officially starting my new diet tomorrow. And by the morning it'll b nearly 24 hours since my first job, so going to put today behind me and start afresh tomorrow and hopefully I'll find the diet easier to stick to with the effects of the jab, and that the jab has kicked in a bit.

Because it's new year's eve I have been celebrating with prosecco etc.. but I guess if I'm honest with myself, I haven't felt like chocolate tonight, which is quite rare after a few drinks! so...maybe something is changing after all!.... 🤞🤞

Oh and prepare for some gastric upset - just in case!

I have upped my fibre uptake - but had a few days of the opposite for a few days during week three.

nothing too extreme - all manageable - but I do feel the effects of any change in diet🫣

PinkArt · 31/12/2024 23:18

It was the next morning for me - I had no appetite, no hunger, no interest in eating - but I was really lucky with that as lots of people don't get anything on 2.5.

TinkerTinbell · 01/01/2025 06:09

Mine kicked in immediately. I seem to respond very fast (even with each new jab or dose change) but it also fades fast too!

Lola3034 · 01/01/2025 16:29

I usually jab around midday and feel the effects the next morning.

MjMadness · 02/01/2025 08:51

Well I think something is stating to happen. Went to the cinema yesterday and didn't get any sweets/popcorn or anything to take in, just a coffee! Just didn't fancy anything (🤯 - that's never happened before!!!)

Then.. during the movie my son handed me his box of popcorn still half full. He said he was full and can I hold it for him, in case he wants more later. He said 'you can finish it mum if you want'. I then sat there for about an hour with popcorn in my hand, and did not eat ANY! - now THAT is crazy!!!! I cannot normally ever resist something which is literally in my hands!!!

Slightly 😮

It’s really wierd isn’t it! I didn’t have any cheese and biscuits over Christmas, or alcohol!

SevernWonders · 03/01/2025 21:24

That is great news @MjMadness - I'm the same, normally such a picker, absolutely cannot leave anything alone...until the magic liquid came along. Good luck on your journey.

PinkArt · 03/01/2025 21:33

It feels like witchcraft, doesn't it. It's so liberating. I finally understood those people who'd just take one biscuit and be genuinely happy with one biscuit.
