Does appetite suppression always increase with higher doses?

Looking for experiences of people who are further along the road than me (week 4 at 2.5mg). Do most of you experience more appetite suppression with each higher dose? I read on a post someone saying they had less suppression on 5mg than 2.5mg, and it made me wonder. I’d assumed the general thing was that the suppression increased in proportion to the higher dose. Would love to hear people’s experiences!

I had less suppression on 5mg than on 2.5, and the suppression only returned once I’d worked my way up to 10mg. We’re all different though

Shrinkingrose · 28/12/2024 09:14

No, not for me, it keeps me at a constant as I move to my optimal dose, which I’m hoping is 10mg and starts next week

BigTightropeWalker · 28/12/2024 09:22

Thanks @BrunchBarBandit and was the suppression on 10 more than it was on 2.5?

Thanks @Shrinkingrose - so it's remained the same on 2.5 and 5?

Yes and on 7.5.

OvaHere · 28/12/2024 09:27

I find it variable week to week even when on the same dose. I've just completed my 2nd 7.5mg pen - last weeks dose gave me a few days where I could barely eat anything and felt a bit rough and nauseous. This week that's not happened at all and I've had more of an appetite (not huge but consistently some).

Yes. I had lost nothing on 5 or 7.5 but losing again (slowly) on 10.

AuntieDote · 28/12/2024 09:34

Not for me, it varied throughout the week, and from week to week, on different doses. I only got as far as 7.5 (currently having a break due to side effects and to decide what to do next) but I found 2.5 worked pretty well suppression wise for about 6/7 weeks, though as I said it was up and down a bit each week. 5 was hideous side effects wise and didn’t do much for suppression either. Had a good run for a few weeks on 7.5 with fairly good suppression until side effects resurfaced in a major way.

Aside from the first ever week or so I never had the suppression that some people talk about where they don’t want to eat a thing, or don’t think about sweet stuff at all or don’t ever get tempted. I did get hungry, did occasionally have a sweet treat or a more carb heavy meal etc - but it WAS easier/ effortless to moderate my portions, stop once I’d enjoyed a small amount, and I did go for much longer periods of time without really thinking about food. I’ve not taken any for a few weeks now and I’m still pretty much there, though definitely thinking about food and ‘fancying’ a little something more often - nothing like pre MJ levels yet though.

Thanks all. It sounds like it'd be good to slightly adjust my expectations and not expect it to be 'easy' as I thought it might after my first few days. My loss on 2.5 has been small (more than I've managed in a long time however) but it's a long game I guess!

I didn't really have any suppression till 10mg I don't think. Still only losing about half a pound a week. Looking forward to going up next time.

Mysticmaiden2024 · 28/12/2024 10:37

My suppression comes back with every higher dose after it wears off on the lower one. On 5mg I had 7 weeks full suppression all week. just started 7.5mg

12purplepencils · 28/12/2024 10:39

I find it variable week to week too.
It’s a very strange thing.
I can only think that hormones and my cycle play a part.

Ed31 · 28/12/2024 11:16

I’m 6 weeks in 4weeks on 2.5mg & 2weeks on 5mg and my food suppression has been equal throughout. It’s still a struggle to eat for me. I’ve just come back from a Christmas holiday & eating a little more than before I went so will be interesting to see how I get on over the next week with meals & the desire to eat.

BigTightropeWalker · 28/12/2024 11:31

Thanks it's really interesting hear of other people's experiences.

I'm looking forward to going up to 5mg next dose and hoping I get more appetite suppression. In my first week on 2.5 it was like someone had waved a magic wand, but the following 2-3 weeks far less do. Although I imagine it also has to do with getting used to the lack of powerful cravings, and a different kind of normal. I'm sure if they returned tomorrow I'd notice the difference!

I will be starting my third pen at 2.5 next week. Suppression still good

eeeeeeeee · 28/12/2024 14:28

Honestly, no. I had pretty consistent and high suppression on 2.5mg through to 10mg. But as I increased the dose, I found myself having more leeway if that makes sense like 10mg wasn’t stronger in terms of suppression than 2.5mg. It was the other way around if anything.

I’m now on 12.5mg and I feel the appetite suppression is non existent, unless I just have a duff pen. I could broadly eat what I want when I want, but I find myself naturally knowing when to stop even if it’s not forced by MJ. Like at 2.5mg if I overate, I would be in pain. On 12.5mg I’m more relying on willpower to stop myself from overeating, but could totally overeat without the pain.

I'm on ozempic, went up to 0.75 and felt rough the whole week, thought I'd be better the second week and I couldn't have been more wrong. I was really unwell, didn't eat much at all and funnily didn't lose anything that week.

Went back down a dose, I was really worried it wouldn't suppress my appetite, but it's been fine, back losing again.

Same here.

Wow @eeeeeeeee that seems the opposite of what I'd have expected! A little dispiriting to hear as I'm hoping to have more suppression as I increase doses. However this thread had demonstrated how individual it all is!
