BMI not high enough

My BMI is currently 27

i have struggled all of my life with my weight. Only once did I manage to get to a size I was happy with and that was in my early 30s. ( achieved by near starvation and lots of cigarette smoking).

Am currently in my mid 50s and of course it’s even harder now.

What is the likelihood of my being able to obtain any of the weight loss injections.

I know exactly what I should be eating, and how much of it. But I am just greedy and want to eat even if I’m not particularly hungry. It’s a boredom and comfort fix.

You won’t be able to get it legally by a registered pharmacy I’m afraid.

AncientAndModern1 · 27/12/2024 14:56

Do you have high cholesterol or blood pressure, sleep apnoea or pre diabetes? Any of these would make you eligible at BMI 27.

You are wrong. The prescribing guidelines allow it to be prescribed at BMI 27 to people of certain ethnicity and to people with various health conditions.

@WorriedRelative I’m aware of that. My reply was in response to OP’s BMI of 27.

@WorriedRelative I’m aware of that. My reply was in response to OP’s BMI of 27.

But she didn't comment on her ethnicity or health so your response was inaccurate and unhelpful.

@Oistinemup just apply to one of the online pharmacies and see what happens. They will apply their rules to your request.

None of us on chat forums can give you a definitive answer

HansHolbein · 27/12/2024 15:10

@WorriedRelative Ok.

Oistinemup · 27/12/2024 15:22

Hey OP,
At a BMI of 27 and without any major underlying conditions, the risks from taking this medication far outweigh the benefits that you'd get from dropping your weight from BMI 27 to the healthy range. For that reason, it's not currently licensed for your specific scenario, and no testing has been done on the safety of short term use for small amounts of weight loss. Even if you could get someone to prescribe GPL1 (e.g. by not answering the questions truthfully), you'd be taking serious risks with your health.
