Redness at injection site

I've been using Mounjaro for 3 months and have lost nearly 2st, which I'm very happy with. This week for the first time I have got a 50p sized red reaction around the injection site. I injected 3 days ago, 5cm from navel as instructed, I change sides each week. I'm counting clicks to dose 3.75mg on a 5mg pen (though I only did 30 clicks/2.5mg this week so I can join in with Christmas dinner!) Pen is within the 30 days. It's not sore. I'm a bit freaked out. Redness at the injection site seems to be a common side effect but I've not had it before, should I be worried?

No, as yoh said its a common reaction.

Mine got worse as dosage increased, I'm micro dosing upto 7.5mg so did 6mg on Saturday evening, it was red, raised and itchy approx 10cm in length today! I've used germolene and it normally works quickly but not this time. Have tried without alcohol on tummy, pinching fat, not pinching, still happens regardless. I do react very badly to insect bites, had cellulitis on legs 2 years ago and couldn't walk so I think I'm just reactive!

I get that too. I use Eurax cream to try to stop the itch.

I used to use Wegovy and never had this reaction. But from research it seems quite common.

I take anti histamines and use hydrocortisone cream, it doesn’t stop completely, but it does calm it down a lot.

Have you changed supplier recently and had a different length/brand of needle?

Reactions started for me when I changed suppliers and they sent a 4mm different brand of pen needle. The itching would last over 2 weeks and the redness over 3 weeks. So I would have itching on both sides of stomach and also still be able to see the big red mark from 3 weeks previously!

On advice of prescriber I tried their 6mm pen needles as some people had success with slightly longer needles (either 6mm or 8mm) taking the medication further away from the sensitive skin layer. I went for their 6mm as 8mm seemed a bit long (wimp!). It was still itchy and red but for nowhere near as long.

I had some spare 6mm needles from the brand from my previous supplier so tried them again and there is only a slight redness for day or so, no itching.

So changing needle length and brand worked for me. I can only assume something in the needle coating or tip design didn't agree with me personally (as others are fine on those needles)

Edited

I tried 2 different brands for needles, got a box of Viva then another prescriber was a different brand. Also happens with my 12mm syringe for bonus day, I jabbed it in half way so around 6-7mm. Still the same. Mine lasts 4 days after injecting.

@Mysticmaiden2024 BD Viva were the same ones I reacted to (after buying a full box of 4mm and a couple of pouches of 6mm and 8mm).

I switched back to the 6mm ones ZAVA provided (Novofine) and they are much better for me. I haven't had to use any syringes yet.

The other brand I've got are Greenfine and used them 3 times but still react. Would be good to know what causes it but I do have sensitive skin, i react to lots of body and face products and insect bites needed prescription strong antihistamines and antibiotics, so I suspect its me. Its good if you have found a resolution to it 😊
