Is Dizziness a side effect?

Iv been on MJ for 10 weeks, 5 at 2.5mg and 5 at 5mg. I went up to 7.5mg this weekend.

For the last week (so on 5mg) I keep getting random dizzy spells. Normally when I have to get up off the sofa, go from kneeling to standing quickly.

Is this a normal side effect? I am not on any other medication.

Yeah I can't stand up too quickly now, always have to pull myself up slowly or I get dizzy.

I just got up 10 mins ago quickly and went instantly dizzy, I had to hold onto the side and stop walking until it passed (only a few seconds).

Just wondered how common this is.

What does it say on the info leaflet about side effects?

Eminybob · 23/12/2024 19:09

I get this but I assume it's a side effect of not eating enough rather than from the drug itself iykwim?

Searchingforthelight · 23/12/2024 19:09

I get this too.

Wondered if it's a BP thing. Though if anything am much better hydrated now that pre MJ. All the talk of drinking 8 glasses of water and also reminded by the nutracheck app.

And I don't think it could be a blood glucose thing, surely that's far better controlled and steadier than pre MJ...

I think you should have a read... when you get home of course.

It's likely to be low blood sugar particularly if you are not eating much. Or possibly low blood pressure.

If it's low blood sugar make sure you're eating regularly even it's only small amounts. It may be worth getting your blood pressure checked too just to rule that out.

KrankyKumquat · 23/12/2024 19:37

@YosemiteTrail
MJ lowers BP, it's a known effect. Mine dropped massively, and I've struggled with dizziness a lot. It has improved now I'm reducing dose on maintenance. It's not normally something to be concerned about, unlike high BP, but might be worth having it checked. Most GPs have a monitor you can use or borrow for the day, or you can buy one for about £20.

raspberrymeringue · 23/12/2024 20:34

I had this when I was extremely suppressed and barely able to eat a thing.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 23/12/2024 20:40

I used to get this alot.
I believe its low blood pressure caused by low electrolytes as your intake has massively reduced.
Increased water intake and suck on an electrolyte table or two. You feel better very quickly.

Obviously… but I’m away for a week. Thanks for your input.

You are obviously supposed to memorise both leaflets before your take it, laminate them and carry them with you are all times. Reckless not to 😉

Could be low BP, low sugar, or a MJ side effect.

Are you eating too few calories? Or being dehydrated can worsen dizziness. If concerned speak to your provider or 111.

restie · 23/12/2024 21:51

Could your iron levels be low? I get dizzy with anaemia

Ha ha! My thoughts too… 🤣

Well today I seemed to get dizzy after I ate so I thought it couldn’t be that.

I should drink more water though!

Yes I have PA so I already get B12 shots from the GP and I take a daily iron pill so maybe I need to find a better type to take.
