Hi all

Just wondered if anybody knows of any suppliers that still don't require photo evidence and don't notify your GP please? As of Dec 2024.

Many thanks

Juniper only wanted a photo of my belly 🙈 No full length pic, or face in shot. I did send ID too, separately.

Edited to add that they don’t inform GP either, as far as I’m aware. Although I wouldn’t mind if they did.

Edited

I hope they change that, stop people who shouldn’t be taking them lying to get them fraudlantly and potentially harming themselves.

Most seem to ask for photo evidence of you stood on the scales to prove how fat you are 😳

I think that because they have a responsibility to check as they are issuing a medication

The alternative is to look for a local pharmacy where you can have a face to face consultation and they can see you physically to see you are eligible, but most will expect you to also use their "support" which they will make you pay heavily for.

We all need to think of obesity as disease/illness that needs treatment, remove the shame from it. You wouldn't expect a Dr to prescribe you something for a wart on your bum without seeing it first. These pharmacies are similar professionals.

Good point.

KrankyKumquat · 20/12/2024 18:36

@goingtogetflamed1
I'm not in the habit of flaming people, but seriously, what's the motivation behind helping someone to evade restrictions for prescribing which have been put in place to safeguard? You nothing about the poster, she may weight 6st and have a serious eating disorder or weigh more but have a counter indicated health condition. The fact you know you're likely to get criticism doesn't make you think twice? Is it for kudos, validation or shits and giggles? It's not the first time I've seen it happen on here and won't be the last but I find it really difficult to understand.

emmax1980 · 20/12/2024 18:39

I know someone who just had to take a clothed photo

goingtogetflamed1 · 20/12/2024 18:42

@KrankyKumquat i very much doubt if the poster weighed 6st they would be asking for ideas they would already know how these things work.
I have answered the poster's question, what they do with that information is up to them.
No clout or validation needed here.

A clothed photo is completely normal. They don't need to see you in underwear in order to see your shape, tight fitting clothes are fine!

Re-read her question - it wasn't 'how do I fake my weight and dupe a prescriber?' But that's fine if you need to tell yourself that.

goingtogetflamed1 · 20/12/2024 19:36

@KrankyKumquat no, she didn't use those words but please tell me your interpretation of why she would be asking for a company that isn't asking for photo verification?

Or GP details.
Yeah, fair point.

London slimming clinic (but I have history going back to Saxenda days) but appreciate the one death on Mounjaro may have changed this)
They aren’t the cheapest but the service is excellent and genuine and their first check was an electoral one type one so it took longer.

Currently in one of the counties of six trailing the bland soup and shakes where I the patient will be paying from prescription no. 2 (err I think not as a diabetic I’d like the right to pay whomever I like if I have the funds) years ago they’d tried putting a diabetic aunt on a water and evening biscuit meal (lost weight initially came back three times bigger when the ‘regimen’ stopped)

Indeed in the summer of 2022 I remember two high street pharmacies disallowing an order of Saxenda despite providing ‘policy pictures’ that I’m hardly twiggy as because in their option I had nhs channels as a diabetic to tap into and make demands of despite the media greatly reporting to get hold of these injections can be a postcode lottery when you are big but not quite reaching tier 3 weight management.

The nurse didn’t die from mounjaro, she was very ill, it wasn’t due to the drug.

Newnamedillydally · 20/12/2024 20:31

This does make you think how this is effectively managed once patients are within normal bmi ranges. I’ve seen lots of posts seeing that people expect to be on maintenance dosing once they reach target weight.

notatinydancer · 20/12/2024 21:35

@BeShyPlumLeader you're clearly not eligible if you're not willing to share a photo or weight.

Cotswoldmama · 20/12/2024 21:53

I work in a GP surgery I don't know if we get notified by all suppliers but we have been getting more and more notifications of weight loss injections. I would have thought it is important your GP surgery knows incase of any interactions it may have with other meds. They definitely don't all ask for photos. Luckily we spotted that a very underweight anorexic patient was prescribed them when we had a notification of the consultation and prescription for them.

Yes that’s approved , and it is due to the risk of regain and health risks for formerly obese patients.

Adelstrop · 21/12/2024 12:42

I found this very difficult at first. Not because I don't need to lose weight, but because I don't like seeing myself in photos. However, I got over the feeling of awkwardness and can now have a giggle at the thought of the trauma I have caused someone having to review a photo of me in my swimming costume. Oushk only ask for a full length photo - you don't have to be standing on the scales, just wear fairly close fitting clothes. Of course, I am assuming you meet the criteria in the first place.

That's very worrying, and sad. Well done for spotting it.

I'm with Bolt (it was recommended on here) and they asked for a photo of my driving licence and a full-length photo, including face. It was horrific. They asked for another at the six-month check up and the difference was incredible. They're not standing in judgement on you, don't worry. They just need to see that you're not slim already. There was no doubt about that in my photo! What was interesting is how much better in all sorts of ways I looked - so much happier, fitter, clothes fit better, etc. It was such a boost, really.

They are also checking you are not giving it to someone else hence asking for wright each month too.

ThePure · 21/12/2024 13:13

Why would anyone not want their GP to know? It's completely normal and good practice to inform a persons NHS GP of any medication prescribed privately so that they don't accidentally prescribe something that conflicts. I would take a dim view of any supplier that does not accord with basic good practices

Same with photo and ID. Apart from the risk of prescribing to someone with an ED there will surely be unscrupulous people obtaining medication and selling it on for profit.

NoTouch · 21/12/2024 13:25

notatinydancer · 20/12/2024 21:35

@BeShyPlumLeader you're clearly not eligible if you're not willing to share a photo or weight.

Getting a photo taken specifically for someone to assess your weight, when you already feel ashamed of it, is uncomfortable for some and a horrific thought for others.

But it is necessary, so supporting someone, rather than accusing based on no information is probably the best approach.

Unfortunately some people have probably been to their GP to ask for support with weightloss to be met with no real help and/or a dismissive/negative attitude and they worry about their GPs opinion on buying privately, not all GPs are supportive or are old school being obese is a lifestyle choice, eat less/move more and you are simply lazy/greedy if you don't and they won't help (or don't have the budgets to help).

Well hopefully there will be action taken

Quote from todays Times article below

The booming online market has raised significant safety concerns, with regulators warning they are prepared to shut down rogue pharmacies enticing “vulnerable people”.

We have the opportunity to use WLI and it would be awful if misuse by a few caused access for the many to be restricted
