Allergic reaction?

I took my first dose Monday evening. Last night I got really red faced and very hot. Then tonight I had the same thing but much worse, I had to take anti histamines and my face was burning for an hour or so after.

does the drug release in spurts? I’m wondering if this is an allergic reaction to it, but strange if it’s coming and going. I’m dreading tomorrow night being even worse.

did anyone else have something like this?

I haven’t eaten anything unusual or changed face creams or anything.

I've been on it for six months and haven't heard about this. I would call your pharmacist first thing tomorrow and talk to them about it.

Why are you injecting multiple times a week? What drug are you taking?

Sorry misread your post. I would have thought it would happen immediately if it were an allergic reaction. Speak to the pharmacist tomorrow

SilenceInside · 19/12/2024 22:11

It doesn't release in spurts, the amount in your system gradually increases after the injection, reaching the maximum amount somewhere between 8 and 72 hours after injecting.

As the others have said I would definitely ask your prescriber about this.

You could also take the antihistamine daily at the moment to try to preempt any further reactions.

Thanks, yeah only did the one dose. It’s had me puzzled. I’ll speak to a pharmacist.

Don't just speak to a random pharmacist, speak to the pharmacist to prescribe them to you. Were you strictly honest when you filled in all the questionnaire? Have you had any other allergies in the past?

MJDecember24 · 19/12/2024 22:52

Yes I was honest and I’ve never had an allergic reaction - not hayfever, food, pets, or any drugs. Fortunately I live with someone who has bad hay fever so we had antihistamines in the house. I got the drugs from Voy, I looked at their list of side effects in the app and it doesn’t cover this, so the automated response was speak to a gp.

I am with Bolt pharmacy and they are brilliant in that you can always have a phone call with them to discuss anything. If you don't have that available then I think you should see your doctor as soon as you can. I certainly wouldn't take the next dose until I'd seen a doctor.

MJDecember24 · 19/12/2024 23:09

Yes I’m definitely not taking another dose until I’ve spoken to them.

Ok I think I’ve figured it out. I was taking St John’s wort briefly before starting this. I have a daylight lamp in my office. I think it’s photo sensitivity from the lamp and SJW. Likely nothing to do with mounjaro.
ill check with my GP but that seems more likely as it’s a known issue.
