Promise I’m not a troll. Long time poster, haven’t name changed because sod it.

so I’ve been on Mounjaro for 3 months now after approx 6 months previously on Wegovy. Had an 8 week break between the 2 medications. However since starting Mounjaro I have woken up twice in the night to find I’ve literally shit the bed. Not a huge amount and it’s always liquid/diarrhoea. I guess I’m posting for solidarity and suggestions. I find this mortifying and my husband is being so kind but I can tell he’s rightfully grossed out. I have to stop the jabs right?

Have you been constipated at all? Is it related to eating specific foods do you think?

I'd contact your prescriber for advice on this and see what they recommend.

Dietingfool · 17/12/2024 16:55

I think you need to speak to your prescriber and likely stop, I’m sorry that’s happening to you. But it is not common.

Winter2020 · 17/12/2024 16:55

I'm sorry you have experienced this.

I think you have just saved a few people a lot of money as we join gyms and start calorie counting in the new year!

Seriously ask your provider. Are you supposed to avoid certain foods- maybe fats? as they go straight through?

You certainly need solidarity, if it’s liquid poo!
seriously, why not take an anti diarrhoea tablet for a short time?

It is a side effect I'm afraid. Do you restrict the fat you eat. I'm not on it but have a medical condition that means I cannot eat much fat at all. You can always tell my plate by the pile of fat left that other people eat.

That doesn’t even come close to saying feceal incontinence is a side effect. It says diarrhea is. Which it is. But having the runs doesn’t mean you have feceal incontinence , good grief.

SilenceInside · 17/12/2024 17:10

@GettingStuffed getting diarrhoea is a known side effect, not uncontrolled nighttime leaking of diarrhoea. And the list you've linked is the same as is on the patient information leaflet that everyone taking Mounjaro has already got access to and likely read many times already. Why you'd want to tell someone to "enjoy" the list of side effects is beyond me, it seems cruel to say that to someone who is obviously upset about the situation.

You don't have to avoid fat, you should be reducing it due to aiming to eat a healthy balance diet, but it's not like Orlistat where the absorption of fat is disrupted by the medication. Mounjaro slows down digestion and for some people, lots of fat in a meal can mean digestive upset due to that slow digestion. It doesn't mean they'll get night time bowel incontinence.

NoTouch · 17/12/2024 20:27

What are you like during the day? Is there a chance you are constipated and this is overflow? If so sorting out the constipation might sort it.

I would discuss with your provider before your next injection.

shitting yourself in your sleep is not a side effect!

Bornonasday · 17/12/2024 21:41

I would speak your prescriber OP, hope you sort something out.

Maybe that poster has faecal incontinence, so they just think if you get diarrhoea, that’s what happens, you shit yourself. I can’t think of another genuine reason, anyone would think it’s one and the same thing.

unless they are so resentful and envious of the drugs, they were gleeful at the thought it might be a side effect. That we are all shitting the bed.

if that’s the case, then sadly for them, they are very wrong. Whatever the op is going through is clearly very , very rare, and she needs to see a doctor. As it is not a side effect of the drug.

op, I hope you’ve made a gp appt and are stopping the drug. Until investigations are carried out on what is causing this incontinence.

Topseyt123 · 18/12/2024 09:17

You need to see your doctor. I would look to get an urgent appointment so that there is just a chance of getting in before Christmas.

In the meantime, would you feel better and more secure in bed if you wore a tena adult nappy overnight? Not pleasant or ideal I know, but it should help save the sheets and mattress.

Ozgirl75 · 18/12/2024 12:09

I read somewhere that nighttime faecal incontinence can be a serious health sign - your body would normally wake you (even babies wake for a night poo). Don’t mean to alarm you but this is definitely not a normal side effect of weight loss drugs. I would get to the Dr very urgently and have a raft of tests.

Hope you’re ok.

Cauliflower79 · 28/12/2024 12:11

You are not alone. I've trusted a fart when I shouldn't have on mj. It never happened on other glp1 medications. Ive since started a daily probiotic to support gut health and it's been fantastic.

Redlightbulb · 28/12/2024 23:25

Bit late to the party.
Never defecated in bed but I can see how it can happen with the diarrhoea.
A couple of times I have had a mucous like diarrhoea on MJ. I assume the mucous is from the colon lining. TMI but It is easy for some to come out without noticing straightaway and that is during the day.
I can imagine that when sleeping it would be harder to control / notice. If you fart in your sleep it could come out with it.
I would take precautions in bed.
Personally I wouldn’t be worried too much about it unless it keeps happening.

But in the meantime let your prescriber know as we are not medical professionals.

FlappingMadly · 29/12/2024 09:54

No, it is not a normal side effect. As we don't know the diet or health of OP we shouldn't say that. OP, I hope you've discussed with a doc and that you're okay.
