Anyone else missing a dose for Christmas?

Moier · 16/12/2024 18:07

I missed a dose for my holidays for a week and l really didn't eat much extra.. but had a couple of lovely meals out and some yummy deserts...but knowing l wouldn't get occupied with food thoughts all the time .. it helped me relax and enjoy my holiday more. I didn't put any weight on.. but l didn't loose any either.
I'm doing the same for Christmas week...
Just a few extra treats.
I've just had my second 12.5.
I've lost three stone in 18 weeks.
4 x 2.5
4 x 5
4 x 7.5
4 x 10.
2 x 12.5

Me too. I can still eat the greasy and fatty foods without any real side effects, but generally speaking I have no wish to.

I'm going to inject as normal. I would have gone up to 12.5mg this month but decided to stay on 10mg as I didn't want to risk any side effects over the break. So that's my concession to Christmas.

IHateMozzies · 17/12/2024 00:35

I’ve decided to stay on 2.5, rather than move up. I’ll move up after the New Year instead.

ProudCoralBear · 17/12/2024 05:04

I usually take mine on a Friday evening but missed last Friday as I have a work event today and usually get side effects a few days after injecting. I’ll then take it a day early each week until I’m back to injecting on a Friday.

Curvy4life · 17/12/2024 05:21

@WeAllHaveWings I haven’t heard of that dosage size - is it new? I’m keen to stay as low as possible too so interested to know, thanks

Moier · 16/12/2024 23:33

But you cant just eat what you ate before you started on mounjaro.
You have to stop the fatty/ fried/ spicey/ high sugar foods.
It's not a matter of having a tiny slice of pizza instead of an whole one... you have to eat healthy .. or you would get side effects.

Not my experience
No side effects at all
I eat what I want, just less of it and I have gone off sugar completely

Fatty, fried, spicy all ok

40coats · 17/12/2024 06:42

No I'll take it Sunday morning as usual.
I'll still be able to enjoy a nice meal including desert and wine. I don't feel I miss out on foods. I eat well, I eat less and I've less impulse/desire for caloric foods. It's a big relief.
I've skipped a week when I've gone away on holidays simply because I'm usually exhausted the first two days after injecting and can be nauseous the day after which has always been my travel day.
Op I think maybe you should consider having those foods you miss on an occasional basis and see how you fare. People on here aren't just randomners, they've real and varied first hand experiences and you did ask for feedback. I think if you're on the drug and still feeling deprived of certain foods you're still engaging your diet mentality.
Enjoy your Christmas whatever you decide. At the end of the day it's one injection but maybe going forward consider tweaking things a little.

Dietingfool · 17/12/2024 06:42

You’re not alone op, a few folks want to do this.

which tells me mounjaro can deal with the physical desire to eat, but the mental one, is very different for those folks , wanting to eat “treats” and actually reducing your medication so you can, and are planning it well in advance, as you think about the food you want, shows the underlying mental health issue still exists.

food is food, none of it is a “treats” most people can eat small quantities of these sugary things without sending their blood sugar hay wire.

I get many of us are lucky, where we don’t desire these foods, don’t feel deprived, and will not come off or reduce for Xmas.

i will stay on mj as usual, i can’t say whether i will want the foods, as food is no longer a big deal to me, im not planning what I can eat in a weeks time, or how i can eat and enjoy “ treat” food then, if on the day i fancy something I will have it. Just like any other day. Because I’ve had many xmas’s over indulging. And I’m very comfortable with not doing that any more.

maybe counselling along side the jab is required, to help with the mental heath adjustment alongside the weight loss, where we don’t crave these foods, don’t consider them treats or naughty, learn to eat in moderation, and importantly wouldn’t consider planning a week or two in advance how we could eat them. As this isn’t your body wanting them, but your mind.

its a long old road and its not just about weight loss. But the mental attitude to food also.

CoverMeInMarmalade · 17/12/2024 07:04

I'll just be taking the jabs as normal. I've got in a posh box of chocolates so that, if I fancy something sweet, I can have quality over quantity this year but otherwise I'll just be eating in moderation.

I've been able to eat greasy etc foods all along without bad side effects so that's not a concern. I just fancy them less and find making different choices easier. So I can always eat a bit of Xmas food if I want to. But, for me, the greatest Christmas gift is finding myself the same weight after Xmas as before it and then getting right back to losing in the new year.

Tradersinsnow · 17/12/2024 07:12

I usually have my injection on Wednesday morning and feel tired and a bit nauseated that day. I'm going to do the injection in the evening instead. I'm not worried at all that I will overeat because the med is at a steady state for me after so long on it. A few hours later will make no difference except I won't feel like crap.

ToastInTheTown · 17/12/2024 07:38

My injection day is Thursday so the timing works out quite nicely - however, I do eat normally on MJ, that's kind of the point and what I assume people mean when they say they can finally eat like a normal person. So having a roast dinner, a glass of wine and a chocolate mint won't be a problem. It will be a small serving of everything and I won't be interested in going back for seconds. This year I find a mini mince pie is just the right size, and I don't want one every day so there is no feeling of denial in not having one. I don't feel such intense appetite suppression that food isn't good anymore, I just find I am much more easily satisfied and I prefer eating healthier food - it's the holy grail of diets that promise 'eat what you want and lose weight!' because it makes me want to eat differently and eat less but it feels good and satisfying to do it. So I'm looking forward to Christmas and not feeling out of control or sluggish, but enjoying really good quality and delicious food in a quantity that feels good too.

Recycledblonde · 17/12/2024 07:51

I'm not for Christmas but I am for a cruise I'm going on in January.

This is not true for me and not for everyone either. I’ve been on MJ for 10 weeks and lost over 2 stone and I’ve enjoyed food. I’ve had cake and chocolate in moderation, not stuffing myself with it, I’ve been to lots of events centered around food especially during this Christmas season and I’ve eaten and enjoyed good quality food within my calorie deficit limit and stopped when I was full.
My Jab day is always on Saturdays and I’ll jab as normal. I’m not going to be on MJ forever, I’ll stop when I’m at goal so I’m changing my relationship with food and doing it for good. I’m not depriving myself of anything now or at anytime, I’m just having the notion that I can enjoy myself without it being all about food. For Christmas, I plan to do the same, enjoy the food, stop when I’m full, and have lots of other fun things to do. That’s all.

TorroFerney · 17/12/2024 09:22

KitsyWitsy · 16/12/2024 21:21

Why would you miss it ? Just so you can stuff your face? Aren’t we trying to stop doing that?

You can still eat anything you want.

Exactly, this is why people get so frothy about these injections. People on other threads saying oh we work so hard it’s not easy you can’t just eat what you want it takes hard work. Well this post undermines that somewhat as appears to be saying I’m not hungry when I take the Jab so I’m going to not take the jab feel hungry and eat loads. Op no, you are not helping other people who are having to deal with a backlash about “cheating”, you are just helping perpetuate that.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 17/12/2024 09:33

The way the calendar's fallen, Christmas Day is the final day of my old jab cycle and I should jab again Boxing Day. I'll jab later in the day on Boxing Day so hopefully I get most of the 27th before any dodgy tum hits (I tend to start to get tummy symptoms about 22hours post jab) but I'm not spending all this money to blow the progress away for a couple more pigs in blankets.

End of the day Xmas Dinner is just a posh Sunday dinner anyway!

Honestly people get so frothy due to envy and resentment, the op isn’t causing that. She’s not even encouraging it. These people post shite, utter nonsense, about the drugs, not accepting reason, posting misleading information, making stuff up, all because they are envious and resentful.

Moier · 17/12/2024 12:59

Why aren't people understanding what I'm saying???
I don't want to eat extra.
My mounjaro was for my diabetes with added bonus of loosing weight.
I've changed my diet completely with the help of mounjaro.. I stopped all fatty/ fried/ sugary foods ... was advised at my diabetic clinic.
I've lost 3 stones and reversed my diabetes completely.
I've had no side effects... apart from a couple of times l ate fried food and a sugary desert.
I don't want to stuff my face or eat more.. l want to just enjoy a desert or chocolate with my family .
My Grandsons will be buying me chocolate ( obviously they don't grasp the mounjaro thing).
I did this on holiday.. enjoyed a desert out without side effects.
Wish l never bothered starting this thread.
I think most of you started Mounjaro for weight loss and not diabetes like me.
I'm just happy l no longer have a diabetic health concern and lost weight too.

Think we are confused - if you were taking it for your diabetes and have reversed it, then you no longer need to take it and can titrate off it with the help of your diabetes nurse? Ie, it’s got nothing to do with Christmas or what you do or do not plan to eat, or the fact that you coincidentally lost weight on it?

WeAllHaveWings · 17/12/2024 13:34

Curvy4life · 17/12/2024 05:21

@WeAllHaveWings I haven’t heard of that dosage size - is it new? I’m keen to stay as low as possible too so interested to know, thanks

It isn't a official dose and your provider will not support adjusting doses in the pens but many people do this. I consider it a low risk "tweak" as you are taking less of the medication. There are some other "tweaks" I personally consider high risk and wouldn't do - such as regularly injecting more frequently than 7 days etc. You will need to think carefully and research what your own boundaries are when adjusting anything outside of the instructions as there are risks.

In each pen (regardless of strength) you turn the dose knob 60 clicks until it reaches the number 1 in the window. This will deliver you 0.6ml which is one dose of your pen strength - 2.5mg, 5mg etc.

If you have a 5mg pen and only count/turn it 30 clicks you will deliver 0.3ml which equates to 2.5mg. If you turn it 45 clicks you will deliver 0.45ml which equates to 3.75mg. etc (simple maths)

Curvy4life · 17/12/2024 13:41

@WeAllHaveWings thank you that is useful to know and makes sense.

I’m nervous about increasing dosage so would probably only consider using it if I had any side effects and wanted to come down slightly.

KeepinOn · 17/12/2024 14:06

I'm due a dose on Christmas eve, I didn't even consider delaying it. This is the first December in a long time I haven't been food obsessed, long may it continue.

CameraGown · 17/12/2024 14:21

No. Overindulgence is what got me here. These are changes for life.

Pashazade · 17/12/2024 14:34

I'm due to dose on Xmas Eve, I'm considering delaying by 24 hours so I can actually enjoy some of the food on the table rather than half a roast potato and a single slice of Turkey. My appetite suppression is strong the first two days and being able to enjoy the food, not go crazy, not over eat, just literally enjoy more than five mouthfuls, have a small/normal portion and a bit of pudding, is what I'm aiming at. I'm assuming this is what the OP means. I don't expect to do any of the grazing I would normally do and I won't be drinking. But I would like to enjoy what is usually a delicious meal, just not to excess.

KitsyWitsy · 17/12/2024 14:36

What are you on about then? Just come off it altogether and go back to your old ways if that's what you want.

Lots of us are diabetic as well. I don't know why that's relevant here?

CoverMeInMarmalade · 17/12/2024 14:53

I think most of you started Mounjaro for weight loss and not diabetes like me.

To be fair, this is a weight loss injections board so I would imagine the majority are on the pens for weight loss. And with that comes a lifetime of emotions, and probably (like me) some fairly poor experiences of Christmas being a time of joy that has been annually marred by the feeling over of eating and inevitably putting on weight and starting a new year feeling even worse about ourselves than we did before. That's a lot of emotional experience to carry into this Christmas, along with the sheer hope that this year it could be different.

For us/me, the idea that this Christmas could be totally different to any I'd had before is miraculous, and I am going to do everything possible to ensure that - which (for me) includes keeping to the jab schedule that is working so well. I daren't risk anything else. This is the best opportunity I have ever had to be free of the burden of weight and I intend to do everything by the book to give me the very best shot.

Didn’t your obesity cause the diabetes in the first place? As mounjaro is seldom offered, so weight loss must have been a huge factor in this. If your weight wasn’t an issue you’d not have been put on this, but other diabetes drugs. This one is not the go to. It is the go to when it is weight related.

so I guess we are all confused.
