Should I do it?

So, just that really. I've always struggled with my weight, never been slim. I'm 36 5ft2, 180lbs. I am a terrible snacker, especially in the evenings when DCs are in bed. I eat quite large portions and finish off the kids if they leave any. We came back from holiday in May and I spent the entire time feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. I really need to lose some pounds. I'm pretty active but I have PCOS so I find it so hard to lose the weight even when I'm dieting/going to the gym etc. I've been hesitating for so long about mounjaro but I keep talking myself out of it for various reasons (cost, side effects etc) but mostly what if it doesn't work. We are going on holiday again mid May and I'm desperate to lose 2 stone. This is only 16 weeks from 1st Jan which is when I'd start. Can this be done? Is it possible? Any advice/ words of encouragement would be appreciated. TIA.

You could try it for a couple of months and see how it goes? the first month is 2.5mg which is a starting dose and the second 5mg

Axalotl · 14/12/2024 15:38

Go for it. I was about 205lbs when I started. I'm now 175lbs. I move easier, feel healthier, etc. totally worth it imo

GlitteryFarts · 14/12/2024 16:03

Please do it. I was the same a few months ago. 5ft 9 and 18st 10lb on the 4th october when I took my first injection. I took my 11th yesterday and I'm down nearly 3 stone. Its incredible. The only side effect I've had is constipation which has subsided now but nothing that laxido couldn't solve. I wish I'd started sooner I feel so proud of myself and people are starting to notice the weight loss and I'm getting a lot of compliments now which is spurring me on even more.
It has been so easy. I've still been eating what I like just smaller portions. Obviously no takeaways etc but I haven't wanted them anyway. And they have paid for themselves in what I haven't spent o takeaway and snacks.

Do it! I started in August with a BMI of 30 and my BMI is now 22. I'm at goal. Never in a million years did I think it was possible. And you never know you could sail through with no side effects like me! The only way to know is to try.

Snozzlemaid · 14/12/2024 16:50

Yes! Definitely worth trying it.
It's been life changing for me. Started at the end of May and I am now 1lb away from a 5 stone loss.
It's incredible stuff.

Tohaveandtohold · 14/12/2024 16:54

Do it. The last holiday I went to was what spurred me to do it. I started in October with bmi of 33. It’s the end of week 10, just over 2 stone lost and my BMI is now 28. I feel good, so much more happier, hopeful for the next holiday too. My main side effect has been constipation but lots of water and fibre has helped a lot

Mysticmaiden2024 · 15/12/2024 10:15

I was 182lbs 5ft 3lbs BMI 31 started 2nd October, lost almost a stone now 12.5lbs in 10 weeks. I've already noticed benefits of aching muscles, joints and breathlessness gone. My blood pressure went from 145/92 to 110/78 in a month! It is life changing and I have more energy too.

Only you can decide. I dithered for weeks, reading the good, the bad and the scaremongering!

One day, I woke up and it was an enough is enough moment. Ordered MJ, been on it 4 weeks and have lost a stone, but equally important, I am using this time to retrain by brain. This is not a quick fix for me. This will have a positive impact on my health and life and I want to sustain it.

I have had little side effects and feel better within myself already.

Money wise… My first MJ cost £113. I made it last 5 weeks so equates to £22.60 a week.
Minimum of savings on items per week

  • take away coffees £6
  • Bottle of wine £10
  • multi pack walkers crisps £3
  • 1 takeaway per week £10
  • chocolate, biscuits and sweet treats £12
total on non essential items is £41, so I am actually saving money, how crazy is that!!

Do it, it really does help.

Agree with cost, I'm using 5 doses, my food shopping has halved, I don't drink or smoke, I have always had takeaways once every 2 months, if I don't want to cook now I just get a burger from macds rather than a whole meal. I'm having crisps once a month rather than daily. It is very affordable considering what people can spend unnecessarily on monthly.

Shmee1988 · 15/12/2024 13:05

Thanks everyone! You're words of encouragement and your success stories were enough to give me the push I needed. I've ordered it, ready to start on 1st Jan!!!

Hi OP. Really glad you started this thread as I was going to ask the same questions. I'm really concerned about the side effects.

Can I ask where you ordered?

Lillipops · 15/12/2024 18:39

I'm 5ft 3, I was 23 stone 7.5lbs I started the 29th August and this morning I was 20 stone 2lbs....almost 3.5 stone off. Still a long way to go but absolutely could not have done it without MJ, also have PCOS 👍

I am still concerned about the side effects but I know that I need to give it a go. Even if it turns out not to work for me make me feel awful, it'll always be in my head that it's an option I've not explored if I don't. I ordered from MedExpress. I'm super excited now I've taken the leap. I hope this thread helps you too :)

I meant to say I haven't had any side effects, the first 2 weeks on 2.5mg I felt queasy for a couple of days post injection and I'm always tired the day after injection too. I'm now on 10mg and other than the tiredness I've been fine.

boxoftoads · 15/12/2024 19:40

I’m on my third pen, I’ve gone from 2.5 to 5 and stayed at 5 for this month.

I’ve lost a stone. This was after dieting and cross fit 5 x weekly for more than 12 months. Perimenopause has ruined my body but it’s coming back slowly.

I do have side effects, I can no longer drink or eat in any great volume. Heartburn and feeling queasy a few times a week.

I can also be quite tired on day 2 & 3 of injections.

The change in me, the change in my body, I feel so much better. I’m 5ft so my BMI is still over 30 but it’s coming down rapidly. The change is very noticeable and the change in my mental health after reversing the increase is worth it.

The Shotsy app (free version) is great for tracking.

notcopingwellwithDMdementia · 15/12/2024 19:54

@Shmee1988 glad to hear you have ordered a pen. I started on 1st August and have lost 3st 1lb so far.

I too had PCOS (menopausal now) and have always found it so so easy to gain weight but ridiculously hard to lose it.

Mounjaro has been life changing for me, I always use the 'bonus dose' so a pen lasts me 5 injections and as pp have said when you calculate the savings on food/takeaways/snacks etc you won't be any worse off financially.

I'm planning on staying on a maintenance dose if I need to as it's not just the weight loss that has benefited me - the freedom from food noise and cravings is incredible.

My BMI at the start of August was 31 - today it is 24.

The only side effects I've really had were constipation (prune juice works wonders for me) and in the first few weeks some heartburn - rennies sorted that out.

Good luck!
