Mounjaro with a BMI of 30 - weight loss stories!

Hi

I start in the next couple of days. My BMI is just over 30 and I am sometime who looks a normal weight apart from my stomach - I don’t know really know how else to describe that, what I am trying to say is that I have a very small frame and still have relatively slimmish arms and legs but have a very disproportionate amount of fat on my stomach and sides, like a man with a big beer belly really. People sometimes ask if I am pregnant ☹️

My grandma and DM had exactly the same shape, small frames and really slim when young but then ended up with all the stomach fat after putting on a few stone in their 40s, and they both ended up with type 2 diabetes as well.

I have been looking at the threads and seeing amazing amounts of weight loss, but I have noticed that a lot of people started with higher BMIs, so I wonder if people who start at 30 have the same type of results in the next few weeks or should I expect a loss less?

I started in April with a BMI of 30. I lost 3.5 stone and now have a BMI of 22. I lost around 10lbs in the first month, then 1-2 lbs a week consistently after that. I stopped talking MJ about 9 weeks ago after hitting my goal weight and have maintained so far!

Hi 👋

I started with BMI just above 30 and similar to you it is just my belly that was big. Although my face was really puffy too which has now gone 😁

Have been on it just over 10 weeks and I've lost just over 2st! Came off really fast to start with but on more of an even keel now. Also starting to get a lot of compliments which is fab too!

I stayed on 2.5gm for 8 weeks then went up to 5 but have had bad side effects do going to reduce my dose again going forward as the 2.5 worked great for me anyway.

CatFlautist · 11/12/2024 11:46

I started with that bmi, weight around my tummy as well (apple shape). It took me until month 3 to really begin to lose weight. I’m now in month 8 and have lost 26 pounds. My bmi is 26.8 now. I probably have another 8 months to go, realistically speaking, but I have insulin resistance so I lose weight slower than others. You may as well with your belly weight?

MiseryIn · 11/12/2024 12:02

I started with that BMI and I've done 3 months and have lost just over a stone.
I started on half of a 2.5mg dose for 4 weeks, went to 2.5mg then 5mg and that's what I'm on now. Plan to stay on that for another 2 months.
I don't want to lose quickly and at the moment it's about 1lb every couple of weeks which I'm fine with.
I know I'll put it back on if it comes off too fast.

Summerhillsquare · 11/12/2024 12:11

Yes, I did, I was fat all over but especially the abdomen. I've lost 12kg since July.

I still have a flabby front though! There was a period in the first 5kg where I lost evenly, but since then it's redistributed itself alas. I will stop weighing myself now and go by waist measurement, which is in the safe range already.

CatEatDogWorld · 11/12/2024 12:11

Wow, these are amazing losses ! I feel more motivated than ever now.

Any tips on when is best to take it - morning vs evening? Or foods to avoid at first, I’m a bit scared of feeling nauseous

I take mine Friday morning as I used to eat and drink (alchohol) the most over the weekend. Dont have any alcohol at all now. My GP advised me to start it just before when I knew I would tend to eat more so chose a Friday and it's worked well for me. As to what I eat on a daily basis I haven't really changed that much apart from my sugar cravings which have also completely gone but you must have water. I drink up to 3L a day and feel so much better for it. And exercise is a must too.

Hi I started with a BMI of just under 30 in September.
My BMI is 23 now.

Willowy1982 · 11/12/2024 13:31

I started on August 21st with a BMI of 30, and now have a BMI of 22. It's been a really easy journey for me, no negative side effects. I'm now on a continued maintenance dose.

Vegemite123 · 11/12/2024 15:56

My starting BMI was about 31.5. After 9 injections, it is now 27.6. I lost over 2kgs in the first week, but now it is much steadier. I have had a couple of plateaus, but I’m happy with my average loss.

I started on 31 BMI have been taking mounjaro 10 weeks. Have lost 5 kg or 11lbs so far. My weight is also on my tummy, I've been asked by a hospital worker if I have had my baby as they haven't seen me for a long time at work?!! When I was 18 my mum would say I looked 3 months pregnant...I think I've had some insulin resistance for decades!

Oh no 🙈 It’s so awkward, I always feel bad for the person who said it, as I watch them try and flounder their way out of it..

I was just annoyed and enjoyed watching her horrified reaction 😆 I do work in an nhs hospital so you would think there would be some tact from Health professionals!!

My BMI was just under 30 when I started mid September. I’ve lost 15.2kg and I’m now maintaining although my middle is clinging on still slightly! I also had very slim muscular legs and arms starting but bigger middle and chest. Happy to send pictures via DM!

owlyboo · 11/12/2024 20:11

Mine was higher at 35.6 started 20th August I'm
I'm now 27. I would go for it!

BrunchBarBandit · 11/12/2024 20:11

I started in July with a BMI of 35. I’m a slow loser and have lost 15lbs in 5 months and am now BMI 32. I do have side effects 24hrs after I inject (since 7.5mg and am now on 10) that last for a day and a half - sulphur burps, diarrhoea, bloating and discomfort and I’m playing round with what I eat the day before and the day of my injection. This week I’m going to trial a 2 day fast using huel or similar protein powder. I schedule a wfh day for the side effects so I can burp and go to the loo with impunity so I can tolerate these ill effects. Lots of people don’t get any.

CrazyGoatLady · 11/12/2024 21:36

I started with a BMI of just over 30 and prediabetes in July. Did my first jag in August. I lost 2 stone, mostly in the first 12 weeks, on MJ combined with a low carb Mediterranean diet. I also go to the gym 3x per week (which I did anyway before starting MJ, and had already lost half a stone since Jan).

Worst side effects have been constipation and sulphur burps, and nausea and fatigue for a day or two post injection. Moving up to 5mg was too much, I could barely eat for a few days. I counted clicks to do 3.75mg after putting up with feeling terrible on 5mg for 2 weeks.

I now have a BMI of 24.5, blood sugars back in normal range. Maintained my new lower weight for the past month, it fluctuates between 66.5 and 67.5kg and that's where it seems to be settling. I'm tapering down now, back to 2.5mg weekly and then I'll go down to fortnightly doses before stopping entirely in a couple of months.

FlatStanley50 · 12/12/2024 11:14

I started with a BMI of 30 in September. I've lost 23lb in 14 weeks. It's relatively slow as I am short, but has been much faster than any other diet I have ever done. It was 6lb in the first week and roughly 1.5 each week since then. Have also been weight training 3 times a week. Interestingly most of my weight has come off my belly and I am now back to my normal pear shape. BMI now 25.
