Mounjaro with disability

Jerkaround · 11/12/2024 11:25

I have disability which makes it hard for me to do weight bearing and ‘aerobic’ excercise.
i also have extreme fatigue due to my condition.

i started monujaro in august at 11st.

im now 9.7 stone 5 feet tall at 52 year old.

i am happy with the weight lost but feel I could do so much better if I could excercise and also do something to tone up.
i swim but have low immunity and have been constantly fighting various infections since September so swimming has been knocked on the head because every time I go I become more ill!

my clothes fit better but everything is sagging and my apron belly although smaller is overhanging and my legs look like jelly!
I have jowls and empty boobs like when I stopped breastfeeding.

I don’t want to sound ungrateful, I can’t continue paying for this indefinitely.

I don’t know what I’m asking for really but any tips or hope gratefully received!
thanks

Could you do resistance weight training at all? It could help with general strength and balance, as well as possibly toning as well?

There might be specific advice related to your particular disability with guidance on the kind of exercises that would be suitable. They are the sort of thing you could do at home, daily, so no risk of compromising your immune system.

Thank you, possibly, I don’t really know enough about it!

Ah fingers crossed for you too. I’ve never been so aware of my appearance since hitting the late 40s, disability has really prevented me from looking how I want in so many ways, lack of ability and motivation for self care, lack of mobility, lack of energy and strength to exercise,
no time and money for hair and beauty treatments and now so many women I know are using Botox, fillers etc and regularly getting grey roots done, I feel like I look 20 years older than everyone else!
Thanks for sharing , really hope it works for you.

I can't do a single thing at the moment because my hip has totally disintegrated and I'm waiting for a hip replacement. It's a temporarily disability while I wait for surgery. I started on Mounjaro whilst I was bed bound and lost quite a lot of weight so far with no exercise whatever. Keeping calories down low works better than exercising and you can most certainly lose weight.
I did it because my joints can't take the weight any more and I have to lose weight.

Gettingbysomehow · 12/12/2024 21:44

I do think that physio can help you more than us though. They will be able to give you exercise aids and advice that we can't give you. Can you get your GP to refer you.

I struggle to do cardio because of ME/CFS. I am in my 60s. Weight training I believe is the way to go, if you can manage that; even if you only do a little it’s meant to really make a difference.

There are lots of starter/easier videos on YouTube. I am doing a couple of very easy ones (sone of them are very full on for the super fit! It takes research to find ones you like. I found one really relaxed personal trainer and her elderly mother. It’s very easy and very relaxed and chilled. Here’s one I like:

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

If the above is too much I would try and get referral to a physiotherapist by your GP. They can vibe excellent if you get a good one.

Jerkaround · 12/12/2024 22:09

Thanks all. I have had some terrible physios, dismissive or uninformed about my condition or too high expectations of my abilities,
I started seeing an amazing one with the same conditions as me but she left her job. I was gutted as felt I’d finally met someone who could hear me and work to my abilities.
more recently I saw someone privately who was very ‘motivational’ but very fixed on pain being a mental thing rather than an actual thing and I ended up paying through the nose to feel like a fraud!
I will consider the simple weights. I used to do weight training many years ago and I did get great results with it (when young and healthy!)

@Jerkaround interesting what you say about how physiotherapists vary so much.

healthybychristmas · 12/12/2024 22:55

How did you get a prescription for that at the starting weight you were?

Snozzlemaid · 13/12/2024 02:13

11stone at 5 foot is a BMI of 30, so that'll be why.

Orangesandlemons77 · 14/12/2024 17:41

What about something like pilates they use bands for resistance, or gentle yoga?

InfoSecInTheCity · 14/12/2024 17:46

Take a look at couch2fitness. Same concept as couch25k but instead of running it's 3 workouts a week, 1x cardio, 1x glutes and 1x core. Starts easier and gets harder as you build muscle and stamina over a 9week period. They have several instructors in each video showing different variations of each exercise to account for physical mobility issues and different fitness levels.

couchtofitness.com/

They have a YouTube channel too with all the playlists and do other programmes like a Bollywood dance one and samba and family workouts with kids.

I am crap at doing exercise and really got into this, just set up in my living room, often with my daughter joining in (or standing at the side trying not to laugh, the little sod).

NewDogOwner · 14/12/2024 18:16

Could you get advice from a personal trainer or physiotherapist?

Easily.
I’m five feet tall and was 11 stone , it’s an unhealthy bmi and I can’t exercise with my chronic conditions which are exacerbated by extra weight and fat.

Thank you. I responded before I saw the reply!
thanks all for ideas and suggestions, I struggle to motivate myself to do anything at home alone too, I feel like a write off right now!
