Just a few questions hope someone can answer
I have golden dose left of 2.5 mg pen left I've had a week and half of Mounjaro as a few personal problems i was on the 5 mg but don't have that pen with me as somwhere else
Ive now managed to break the 2.5mg pen it expires 9/25 and been in fridge with cap on but it says you have to use in 30days of it being used i last used this pen in Nov i presume it will be ok

The dose thats left in the pen is it the same amount as the other doses or is it more or less thats left. Its surprising how much is actually left too.

It's not clear what you're asking. You have a 2.5mg pen, that you've taken 4 normal doses with, is that right? When did you do the first injection with that pen - is it more than 30 days ago?

If you access the remaining liquid by doing the hard twist to break the pen mechanism, then you can wind the pen out to the 1 position and do a normal dose from that pen. So that would be a standard 2.5mg dose from your 2.5mg pen.

What 'it' actually says is that you need to use it within 30 days of when you FIRST opened it. This is quite clear in the leaflet that comes with every pen.

You don't say when you first used the pen or even when in November you last used it. If it is significantly over 30 days opened, then know that when a peptide goes bad it really goes bad, and that is the risk you are taking. There will be a safety zone built in for people who take a dose late etc (also described in the leaflet), so it is important to be clear with yourself exactly how much over 30 days it is, so that you can gauge your own risk with your own body. Knowledge is power...

If you are personally happy with that risk then do it. This is for you to decide, not randoms on the internet, particularly the fuckwit tiktok bunch who use the phrase 'golden dose' to describe the 5th dose. I have seen the most shockingly dangerous advice touted by that lot.

No it was not more than 30 days ago yes i took the 4 normal doses then i moved on to the 5 mg pen but I've had a over week break and i have this 2.5mg in my fridge at home and the 5 mg in my mums fridge as i was staying with her but I'm not able to go get the 5 mg at the mo so i thought id use this as I've had over a weeks break from the 5mg

If you first used it in October then it has been in use for more than 30 days, which means you should not use it for another injection according to the instructions from the manufacturer.

Your posts are not clear of EXACTLY when pens were used and what doses you have taken. Unless you can be very clear it would be inadvisable for anyone to give an opinion.

If you have used 4 doses from your 2.5mg and some of you 5mg and been off it for over a week your 2.5mg must be significantly over the 30 days.

It's use within 30 days of opening/ the first dose, not 30 days of most recent use. If you first used it in October, it will definitely be past 30 days. If you want to take the risk, that's up to you but personally I wouldn't.

if it was kept in the fridge and if you have always followed instructions and been very clean in handling and the liquid is not cloudy the chance of any bad effects is negligible. according to best information freely and widely available, pens are good for 6 months or more after date with no problems. obviously you do at your own risk. obviously the manufacturers would like you to throw it away and buy a new one. (it is often easier to use an insulin syringe to extract the fifth dose than to force the pen.)

If it was first used on the 31st of October, then the pen has been open for at least 41 days, so it's 11 days over the 30 days usage. And of course, it might have been first used earlier than that, and be more than 2 weeks past the 30 days. Not something I'd be suggesting that anyone should be using.

If 'following instructions' is what makes the one safe why would it not extend to the 'use within 30 days' instruction?

People need to read around this for themselves, and I make no recommendations for anyone else but there is no reason whatsoever to think that this medication goes off after 30 days. No one has said that, not even the manufacturer. They guarantee it will be safe for 30 days. They definitely do not have evidence to say it will be unsafe after 31 days and indeed it will be perfectly safe after 31 days. There is lots of info around the actual safety periods of these medications. Why the heck would you imagine people get info from tiktok? I get mine from reading medical research.

1. The manufacturer states that it should be discarded 30 days after opening.
2. Every single hospital, surgery and pharmacy in the country will DISCARD A MULTIDOSE VIAL OF MEDICATION 30 DAYS AFTER IT IS FIRST PIERCED BY A SYRINGE NEEDLE.

Just to clarify.
My last dose the 4th dose of the 2.5mg pen was in November the pen has always been in the fridge and after last dose was put back in the fridge the liquid is crystal clear does not seem anything wrong with it.
I made my own choice to use it in the end so we will see if anything i expect the potency will have just lessened

That doesn't clarify anything. It doesn't matter when you did the 4th dose, it matters when you did the first dose from that pen. But I guess it's irrelevant now, given that you've used it.

hopefully you’re ok, as the medicine is significantly out of date. I think the issue is bacteria growing in it and then injecting that bacteria into yourself. Hopefully you’re ok. Others have done the same and got away with it. Others won’t have.

If the liquid is cloudy it certainly indicates a problem.

It is a dangerous assumption to think if it is clear it is safe significantly outside its usage instructions.

You're saying yourself that you took 4 doses from the 2.5mg pen, then moved on to 5mg, then took a break for a week, now want to go back to the 2.5mg pen for the 'extra dose.'

So that's easily outside of the 30 day usage window. Just so you understand, it's not 30 days from the last use of the pen, it's 30 days from the first use of the pen. Assuming your 4 doses were a week apart, then you had a week of a 5mg dose, then another week off, it's been at least a month and a half since you started the 2.5mg pen.

I'm just writing this out for your information; I can see you've already used what's left in the pen.

Your last dose is irrelevant - your first dose was well over a month ago.

Fine if you want to take that risk (although you don't seem to actually understand the risk) but totally pointless starting a thread about it if you were just going to do it anyway!

I decided to take it as i read after a little goggle on a medical site that it was less likely too have bacteria if id always kept it in the Fridge and its never moved from there and no one else has touched the pen it also looked fine crystal clear liquid not cloudy as it sates not to use it if cloudy
So far i feel fine so finger crossed and I'm not a massive worrier either with things like this just to point out again it was my own choice and id not in anyway say its ok for someone else

I've not even had the itchy rash red mark i usually get on the injection site

Can you link to the website that says Mounjaro in a used kwikpen is safe after 30 days and talks about the bacteria growth as very interested?

Also would still appreciate your medical research link you talked about @Luminousalumnus if you can share.
