Pen broke on extra dose

locket2009 · 11/12/2024 07:48

Wonder if anyone can help me get the extra dose out of my pen .

Currently on 5mg and during the hard twist to get the additional dose, this time the top of the pen has detached from the main body. Does anyone know how I can get the extra dose out ? Or if the top can somehow be reattached ?
Thanks

I think people use an insulin needle. You do have to break the pen to get the last dose. I will be doing this at lunchtime

Thank you @Doggymummar I will see if I can get an insulin needle from somewhere . Can I get them in a chemist do you know ?

I’d not advise getting a 12.7mm needle op. That’s huge. Get an 8mm one, buy the 1mg is right.

Snozzlemaid · 11/12/2024 08:34

Yes, that is a long needle. It was just one found on a quick google to show the mg size.

My pen wouldn't work either, I managed to force the mechanism but the spring didn't work so I've ordered syringes. Do you just poke it down where the red bit is on top of the pen?

Edited

Yes that's the seal so extract the dose via that. Then push up on the syringe gently to remove any air bubbles until a drop of fluid comes out of the needle, then its ready to use.

Better off with a pharmacy than amazon as some reviews from Amazon and ebay say they are blunt etc which can cause damage

locket2009 · 18/12/2024 14:44

Thanks for the tips everyone used the insulin needles today . Luckily I realised from the old pen that the dose said 0.6mg as almost did a whole 1ml 😳

These say 12mm too. I think they are the ones I bought and the needle seemed so big. I had a meltdown after I'd done it. Does anyone have a link to shorter needles?

Puppetsky · 18/12/2024 15:22

Yes please it would be great if someone could do a good link or recommendation to buy the correct syringes? 🙏

Thank you!

I don't inject the whole needle, only half way so 6mm down. I thought that was obvious that you can control how far you inject a needle into the skin. I found it hurt less than the pen!
