Can we talk about Xmas?

Normally a time of eating loads of delicious food in our house with me having second helpings before I start my annual diet in January.
This year I've been looking through the Booths book thinking I don't actually fancy much at all.
I've basically given up drinking, which I use to love, as I'm not interested. So I'm wondering what that will be like too.
It all feels very odd to be honest - perhaps this is how normal thin people feel all the time?

My house will have lots of delicious food and drinks. I will simply eat smaller portions, or not partake, but I’m fortunate my family will be here . I’m good with minimal or none. Are you alone for Xmas is that it?

Er no! I'll have a house full!

I've just always associated special occasions with delicious food and now I find that my tastes have changed so much that it's lost its importance.
It's not even about portion size. It's about the enjoyment I used to get from cooking and eating. It's noticeably diminished. I always used to wish that I was disinterested in food, it's looking like I've got my wish. It's a very odd feeling.

When u start not eating all the foods u realise just how occasions and events are filled and focus on food !

@GrimDamnFanjo will you enjoy cooking for others? I'll be contributing various things to a larger family Christmas and I'll enjoy making mince pies and various other things. I just won't eat any, or very much, of them myself.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/12/2024 19:01

I'll be injecting as normal, I won't do anything to risk spoiling Christmas like increasing doses in the week or two before it, or messing around with doses schedules.

I'll have a nice Christmas dinner and have the protein, veg and minimal carbs and I won't feel like I am missing anything because I enjoyed it. I'll have a small dessert portion.

I'll miss out the excessive snacks, crisps, chocolates, nuts, etc which were all just greed/habit/feeding my food obsession and not miss them. I have hardly bought any this year, I usually have a box full by now!

It probably will be different for everyone, I am 6 months into MJ, I have minimal side effect and I am comfortable I can enjoy food without overdoing it. 2 months in I still felt it was all a bit strange.

But I might get some constipation/nausea/sickness/indigestion relief in just incase it all goes pear shape! 😳

The main thing that is on my mind is whether I will have alcohol as I haven't wanted any in the last 6 months!

I was thinking this. I am still loving a good roast dinner at the weekend just having less in general but significantly less potato.

I am not snacking in between meals and don't really fancy all the Christmas stuff ( sweets) that are in the shop. Even when I have had chocolate in the past couple of months I am satisfied by a piece or 2 rather than a large 200 g bar.

That’s how I feel, I will enjoy providing, I’m really excited about it to be honest and can’t wait. The fact I will eat smaller portions or none of some things is really irrelevant to me,

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/12/2024 23:55

Yep I'll be cooking some of the meals.
And yes, I'm all about protein and veg these days.
I'm about to start researching some new dishes which will be fun.
For me, the whole Xmas food and drink has hit home how much Mounjaro has changed my attitude to food.
I noticed it in the summer when I actually lost weight while on holiday for the first time ever!

I haven't drunk at all for six months and have decided I will have one or two drinks on Christmas Day and that's it. I'm not sure I'll even want them though.

I was thinking just today how much I would've eaten and drunk by this point in the year. I am determined that nothing is going to make me put on weight over Christmas.

Difford · 12/12/2024 05:54

I'm actually planning to titrate down slightly before Christmas so that I can enjoy a bit more seasonal food without feeling ill. I'm currently on 5mg and will take 3.75 tomorrow and then 2.5 next Friday, then titrate back up.
I don't want to stuff myself like in previous years but just eat normal rather than reduced quantities. I'm not bothered if I put on a few pounds as I'm confident that they will come off again in the New Year.

ShiftAMountain · 12/12/2024 10:59

For me it will be mostly business as usual. Like a pp, I have held to the same dose pen as before, that will take me to the new year - so that I am not moving up a dose just before Xmas. I also track calories in normal times, but the week over Xmas I'll not bother. I'll just try to eat in moderation, letting the drug guide me through it.

Instead of lots of cheaper chocolates, I have splashed out on an expensive box of chocs that means I can have something that feels like a treat but without overdoing it.

I still want to make sure I drink plenty of water, so will keep up with that. And with my time off, try to do lots of longer-than-usual dog walks.

My new pen starts on the 3rd Jan and is the next dose up, so that's when I aim to get back on it in a stricter way.

healthybychristmas · 12/12/2024 19:20

The thing is that Christmas is a time for eating what you want. We don't want to eat much at the moment so we should just do what we want to do!

TheChosenTwo · 12/12/2024 21:10

I’m due to move up doses next Saturday and I’ll be going ahead with it, I’ve felt fine each time so far and only experienced suppression, no other bad side effects that would ruin my Christmas.
I’ll eat my Christmas dinner, just less of it.
For me it’s just the grazing that I’ve been able to stop without any effort, meals I’m fine with and I’m also fine to not eat a chocolate orange in one go or a whole sharing bag of crisps so I’m not concerned about feeling hard done by. I actually had a regular (small!) bag of crisps today - first time I’ve had crisps in almost 2 months because I haven’t wanted them at all.
Today I just really fancied them.
If I fancy more over Christmas I’ll be having them. Same as anything else really.
Ive not been drinking at all, not bothered about it.
