Mounjaro side effects

I’m 11.5 weeks into Mounjaro and have lost 2 stone 4 pounds which I’m thrilled about. I’m now on 7.5mg and sticking to this dose til January. My aim is to lose 4 stone in total.

My issue is side effects and I’m a bit worried about Christmas coming up and all the rich food. Whenever I eat something higher in fat I have terrible diarrhoea which wakes me up in the night and lasts a few hours. Last night I had 3 small roast potatoes and also had a pret toasted sandwich when out so not a great day. Today I feel so nauseous and woke up at 4am with diarrhoea. I generally get a lot of diarrhoea on it at other times too.

I get vomiting when increasing doses but not apart from that.

Has anyone got tips on how to reduce the side effects? Whilst I’ll eat a lot less at Christmas there will inevitably be some less healthy choices offered to me.

Did you have side effects on the lower doses too?
I would be tempted to have a lower dose for the couple of weeks over Christmas so you suffer less whilst food is likely to be a bit richer.

I’m in a similar boat. ATM I eat very little Weds-Sat (I jab on a Wednesday) and can’t really drink. I definitely wouldn’t be able to eat a 3 course Christmas dinner even if I had tiny portions. Everyone would notice and I’m not ready to tell anyone except my husband. I think they’d assume I was pregnant which I think could have the potential to upset people at Christmas (currently experiencing infertility). Also since I’m cooking I’d quite like to be able to enjoy some!

I’m on 5g but my plan is the week before Christmas to count the clicks to 3.75 and then miss my Christmas Day dose and inject late on Boxing Day instead. Hopefully that way I’ll be able to enjoy small amounts of food without going crazy or suffering too many side effects.

@SurreyisSunny I've been up most of the night in the same position I'm going away for a few days and I'm dreading the thought I hate diarrhea but I keep saying its worthing I'm on 1st week of 5mg

SurreyisSunny · 11/12/2024 19:39

@CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair my injection is on Thursday which actually works quite well for Christmas. I think for Christmas dinner I’ll just have a turkey and veg. The weird thing is I still have a sweet tooth and I’m sure I’ll end up eating pudding and some chocolates and I’ll end up regretting it.

could you maybe say you are on antibiotics so can’t drink?

@murraymcgill i thought it might just be me! I follow people on Instagram and they don’t seem to get side effects like me.

looking in the mirror makes it worth it

i found the increase from 2.5 to 5 the worst. No exaggeration but I projectile vomited and has diarrhoea at the same time. It was awful but thankfully after 24 hours I was ok. Hopefully by Christmas you’ll be used to 5mg so will have less side effects

Well that's me an 5 and I feel hungry at night but not with 2.5

DollyD83 · 14/12/2024 13:48

Hey all, I am on week 7 and keep going between diareah and constipation - is this normal?

SurreyisSunny · 14/12/2024 14:26

@DollyD83 I’ve not had constipation but think it’s a common side effect. My main issue is nausea and diarrhoea

How Iong have you been suffering

murraymcgill · 14/12/2024 17:40

I'm going off coffee and I need a latte at 1 o'clock or I'd kill someone now I can't even look or think about them

SurreyisSunny · 14/12/2024 17:44

@DollyD83 i get nausea the 2/3 days after my injection. Diarrhoea is a lot of the time since I’ve been on 7.5mg.

SurreyisSunny · 14/12/2024 20:32

Hello, I’m wondering if anyone can help.
I started Mounjaro January this year, did 4 weeks of 2.5 and felt ok just had sulphur burps the day after. I’ve since moved up to 5mg as the food chatter started again but I just feel dreadful, I’m tired, ache all over, have sulphur burps and diorhea. The results are really working I’ve lost quite a bit. I’m wondering if I should just be eating fruit and veg with some multivitamins? I’ve been retching whilst on the school run. Not good. If anyone else has some advice I would appreciate it thank you x

So I'm 2 weeks into 7.5, the sulfur burps started on 5. I drink plenty of liquids when it gets too bad and that seems to clear it. I have no advice on the diarrhea sorry, I suffer periodically for 24 to 48 hours every couple of weeks. I have started to notice it seems to happen when my stomach is too full (the rest of the time I'm mostly constipated so it as if it doesn't clear and then my body just expels it) I'm trying much smaller portions and upping my liquid intake to see if that will combat it
