Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

@Newshoesnewname, whoah! 8lbs off! One whole stone in two weeks, you’ll make me and @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden jealous 😂. Seriously though, that’s brilliant and a real boost for you.

scotstarstrikestwo · 23/02/2025 10:13

Hello!

Been lurking for the last few weeks but decided to beat my anxiety and join!

Been on mounjaro for 5 weeks today and lost 24lb so I am delighted. Never stuck to anything for this long before!

Started at 163.6 kg and down to 152.6 kg now.

Lobsterteapot · 23/02/2025 10:46

Welcome @scotstarstrikestwo thats brilliant progress! Bet you’re feeling fab.

Week 7 for me and another 3 pounds off which puts me at 1 stone 6 pounds. Feeling much lighter and brighter.

Saw my diabetes nurse midweek and she has prescribed Mounjaro for me. She was really clear that it was for diabetes only, she could only give me 5mg and only for 12 months which I’m pleased with as it gives me a target to aim for.
Last year I lost 3 stone (went back on of course) but it put my diabetes into “pre diabetic state so getting a good 7-8 stone off should do the trick. Would love to come off metformin and my high blood pressure tablets.

SilenceInside · 23/02/2025 11:46

@scotstarstrikestwo hello and welcome, congratulations on your weight loss so far.

@Lobsterteapot that is amazing news that you can get Mounjaro prescribed for you, that's a brilliant result.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 23/02/2025 11:46

That fantastic @scotstarstrikestwo, my brain only works in stones and lbs so had to convert it, that’s a brilliant loss! It’s so motivating for us all seeing losses, makes everything so much easier, I’m definitely finding it so easy to make good choices. I can’t remember the last time I said ‘oh, it won’t matter if I eat that, I’ll be better tomorrow’.

@Lobsterteapot congrats on the 3 lbs off!
I’m on 4 different BP tablets, I’d noticed the last couple of weeks that I’ve been feeling really dizzy, especially after standing from sitting. I took 3 different BP readings yesterday as I almost passed out 😵 1st was 110/80, 2nd was 100/70 and 3rd was 110/60. My usual readings are 160/90 so I think I know what the problem is!

Beachcomber74 · 23/02/2025 12:06

I was so ill in the night with terrible sickness I’d made spaghetti bol & had a normal sized portion which had just been clearly too much. It’s my body adjusting to what it can cope with I guess but felt so wretched. Week7 for me glad it didn’t happen at the start or I would’ve been put off.
Well done on all your loses.

Lobsterteapot · 23/02/2025 12:25

@Iwouldratherbesinging Wow! That is a huge difference! I bet if you went back to the docs now they would look at taking you off the meds.

PeppyOP · 23/02/2025 15:27

Hi all,

I just started on Friday. I have around 11 stone to lose. I was 21st 13.4lbs when I weighed Friday. Last night I noticed that I’m already feeling some suppression which I was really pleased with, I had a ready meal lasagne for dinner and struggled to finish it, I would usually go searching for more food after!

I woke up early this morning with severe stomach pain and struggled to stay off the toilet, really felt unwell. Immodium seems to have done the trick though thankfully. Stepped on the scales this afternoon expecting to have maybe lost 1lb from illness but I’m already down 3.4lbs! Can’t wait for official weigh in on Friday now!

I was just wondering, has anyone else experienced a bad stomach 1-2 days after first jab, and if so did it happen after every dose so far?

SilenceInside · 23/02/2025 15:48

Hi @PeppyOP I didn't get an upset stomach after the first injection, but have had similar a couple of times, mostly at 5mg. It was related to what I ate. I would think that a ready meal lasagne might have been problematic, as they're usually high in fat and carbs, as well as salty.

PinkArt · 23/02/2025 15:49

Welcome @PeppyOP. I was, for want of a better description, shitting water explosively for about 4 days in the first week. Mostly in the afternoons and every half an hour to an hour. It came back a little in the second week but that was it. Don't assume any early symptoms will stick around - your body is just getting used to it for now.

Tainiz · 23/02/2025 17:16

4th weigh-in on Friday last week and another 2lbs lost. Total loss so far is 1st 5.5lbs which I am delighted with. I've decided to stay on 2.5mg for the 2nd month as I've jot Jury Service coming up and daren't take the risk of needing the loo urgently!

That could be awkward! I’ve always wanted to do jury service, Sadly I’ve never been called….
brilliant losses!

Grumpyoldthing · 24/02/2025 06:56

Back to work today, although I have been very slowly losing weight( and secretly a bit disappointed with myself at how slow )
I am starting this term 15.6 lb lighter than I started last half term - it feels like a huge win to me.

really I should be skipping back to work right??🤣🤣

now only 5lb away from my next mini target 🎯

let’s have a great week guys - it will be Friday before we know it !

Kay2000 · 24/02/2025 08:42

Great weight losses everyone. I did another 2lb this week, slow and steady is obviously the way I’m going 19lb off now since beginning of year. 2lb on average sounds low compared with some but that’s 100lb off by 31st Dec which is my goal for this year. I’m almost a fifth of the way there! We’ll be fine in the Slow Loser Club @Grumpyoldthing @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden the tortoise gets there eventually 😂

@Iwouldratherbesinging I’ve also experienced light headedness over the past week, since upping my dose from 3.75 to 5mg. Like you I’m on blood pressure meds, so I’m monitoring it. One day last week when I felt very faint it was something ridiculous like 90/40 but it soon goes up again after I drink a pint of water. I haven’t lost enough weight I don’t think to require me adjusting my meds, as I needed them when I was this weight before, so wondering if the MJ lowers BP sometimes? Anyway, I have a monitor here and am doing them for a week before contacting GP, as I know that’s what they’ll ask me to do. I still injected the 5mg last night, as my appetite suppression hasn’t been as good as it was in the beginning, I’m having to use willpower too which I don’t have in abundance! So I’m hoping my body will adjust.

GnomeDePlume · 24/02/2025 09:48

@Kay2000 I'm on a few medications. Both my warfarin and levothyroxine prescriptions have reduced proportionately more than my weight has reduced.

There may be a couple if things at play: the way the medication is absorbed. Possibly absorbing more because of slower digestive transit. Possibly needing less because of changing diet (this was suggested by the warfarin nurse).

Kay2000 · 24/02/2025 09:54

Yes that makes sense @GnomeDePlume I’ll report back, got a GP appointment for the 7/3.

Namechangean · 24/02/2025 11:33

Just finished week 2 after starting mj (while already losing weight)

SW - 20st 3 (March 2024)
Weight when starting mj - 16st3
CW - 15st12.5

Lost 2.5lbs this week. I take my injection on a Monday and on Wednesday I’m getting side effects, tummy ache, sulphur burps and heartburn. They last 24 hours but I’m hoping that they stop eventually.

Can feel my appetite has reduced but I still have a lot of ‘food noise’ even when I’m not hungry. Feel like the loss is slow considering it’s my first two weeks but both weeks I’ve had something on over the weekend where I’m not really sticking to it, so still needing a lot of willpower but just happy to be losing again.

Hoping to hear that when I increase my dose it will help a bit more with the food noise. Although worried about the side effects. Obviously I know it’s on me to have willpower, and I have, it’s just at the moment I’m not seeing much of a difference between starting mounjaro and how I was losing weight before on my own, just calorie counting.

JusteanBiscuits · 24/02/2025 13:06

A weeks holiday - where I ate so much better than any other holiday - and I've gained 2kg 😭No deserts, and mainly stuck to protein with salads, but did have sandwich for lunch a couple of times, and pasta twice 🙄 But then I did over 15,000 steps every day - nearly 30,000 twice! It's making me realise how little I need to eat to lose weight and how this surely isn't normal. Mounjaro obviously makes this a lot easier, but even on mounjaro anything over 900 cals a week and I gain weight. How is this normal?? Thyroid all OK btw/

Did you go abroad? I put on 1st 5lbs the day after I returned from my holiday (where I ate and drank everything I wanted) and I gave it 3 days to let the water retention from the flight and salt and heat and a few days later I’d lost 12lbs. I’d gained 7lbs during the holiday the rest was just water retention

Iwouldratherbesinging · 25/02/2025 15:17

I ‘only’ lost 1lb this week, that’s a first for me (constipation has reared its ugly head again though), but that 1lb puts me at a three stone loss which I am ecstatic about. My bmi is sitting at 40.1, not long and I’ll finally appear on the NHS BMI chart 🤭

Well done! Mine dropped below 50 this week 🎉 and I said my next target is 45, then after that is to be a BMI on a chart 🙄. It annoys me that apparently people like me don’t exist! I don’t use the NHS calculator anyway as they’ve removed sex which is completely ridiculous, men’s and women’s bodies are different no matter who says otherwise. I use the British Heart calculator who have kept sex in.

Edited

I just plugged my figures into the BHF and I’m .1 lower, so I’m on their BMI chart - I’ll take that as a win 😍

HappyBee78 · 25/02/2025 23:22

Hello lovely people! This may sound like a strange question to ask, so here it goes….

Does anyone else get a strange metallic type taste in their mouth as soon as they begin to inject the mounjaro? I have noticed that over the last month or so , every time I take my medication as soon as I inject I can feel the medicine going in and all of a sudden I get this funny taste in my mouth…

Kay2000 · 26/02/2025 08:51

@HappyBee78 If it’s barely entered your body it’s not really possible it’s the injection unless it’s psychological. If it’s after a little while it could be. Try sucking a sweet or some chewing gum, maybe, to stop your mouth drying out? Does the metallic taste go away?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 26/02/2025 09:13

@HappyBee78, do you get anxious when you inject? That could cause a dry mouth which can in turn cause a metallic taste. But, no I haven’t heard of that before sorry!
