Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

@OliviaFlaversham I think if our relationship with food can be so greatly transformed by MJ, it’s a chemical/hormonal thing going on. There’s no other explanation how I’ve gone from, as @Iwouldratherbesinging says, constantly eating, grazing, obsessing over food in the cupboard, not being able to stop eating even if I’m full, etc etc, to what I’m like now with the only difference being a low dose of MJ. I remember at WW years ago, the leader suggested chopping the mint chocolate bar up into pieces and having one piece a day. I laughed out loud, I wasn’t able to buy the product as when I did I ate all 5 bars in a day. She had no understanding of the issues. Now I think I could actually do that - I’ve been having one square of chocolate a day and am satisfied with that and never think of going back to eat the lot. That has to be something in my body turned off by MJ. So I’m hoping there will be a maintenance solution for us. However even if not, if I lose 11 stone as I’m hoping to, there’s no way I’ll regain that all overnight and I’m hoping my body will have readjusted somewhat as also, assume I’ll be so much more active when I’m half my starting weight which will make it easier to control.

Edited

I am sure I have heard that they are working on pills with half the dose of the first jab for maintenance.

if so that would be great, wean yourself down to 2.5 then on to the (hopefully cheaper) tablets

however , the pharmaceutical company has a very long deadline for me to finish- a good 10 st I reckon 🤣

I would imagine that there are even more options in a few years time

Grumpyoldthing · 17/02/2025 09:20

Pill sorted . They were £105 delivered for the 5 mg

there is a code on the comparison website to get it that price

Kay2000 · 17/02/2025 09:32

Yes about a 10 stone wait for me too, they have time to develop a maintenance plan 🤣

What pharmacy? I’ve been happy with the service from Asda but a savings of £50+ a month has to be done.

Grumpyoldthing · 17/02/2025 09:44

So that’s the price comparison website, pillsorted is the cheapest atm for 5 mg

then the second picture should show the d I s count c o d e

to get it to that price

I intend to shop around every month

My first week in mounjaro done. Not been an amazing week, still needed a lot of willpower and having just had Christmas, birthday and a big holiday I’m craving sweet stuff, but 2lbs down. Had some horrible side effects on one day, hoping they’re not as bad this week!

Mounjaro week 1 -2lbs
Overall -58lbs

Grumpyoldthing · 17/02/2025 09:09

Well into week 6 here

sw 305 10/1
cw 290 18/1

i have felt a bit like i have been stuck at the same few pounds going up and down in the last two weeks, i am using a second 2.5 pen and actually I probably should have gone up, but I ordered to early.

but trying hard and finally seeing movement on the scale this week !

a stone gone , bmi down 3 points - now at 48

pre Covid my weight was 285 so that’s my next mini goal , then the one after is to get to into the 19’s stone wize !

5mg pen ordered, hopefully should be arriving soon . From a lesser known pharmacy, but it was on the pre approved jab website thing so fingers crossed all is smooth. They needed a lot of id and pictures

side note I am feeling a little more active/ able to move around, and have helped a lot with decorating this weekend!

I'm week 20 and I've lost and gained the same 2lb for nearly the last 2 weeks. As long as you are eating in a deficit it'll come off eventually. I've upped my steps and lost just over 3st so think my body is just having a moment to catch up. Pre mounjaro I'd have given up if the scales didn't move for a week and eaten 6000 calories a day for the week as a treat. This time I feel more confident that it'll work eventually.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 18/02/2025 09:56

Week 16 for me - started at 24 and a half stone, now down to 20stone 13 - moved up to 7.5mg this month. BMI now under 50.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 18/02/2025 09:56

Oh and the clothes size changes have now started to begin to show.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 18/02/2025 11:53

I have been stalled for a while. Started in September and lost 2 stone in the 3 months to Christmas, staying on 5mg.

I was okay with losing relatively slowly despite my high starting weight as I know it's safer and more sustainable. I stayed on 5mg until Jan as I thought I might be able to get back on track after Christmas but didn't manage to lose anything last month. I'm 3 weeks into 7.5mg and still gaining and losing the same 4lbs over and over again. It feels like a really stubborn plateau and I'm trying not to stress but this is such an expensive way to lose weight, I can't afford to keep spending this amount if it's not even working. I weigh the same today as I did on Christmas Eve 😫

I do wonder if it's a bit of a set point thing as I'm 20 stone and have often had a stable weight around here so maybe my body is just finding it hard to get past this point.

Has anyone else had plateaus on mounjaro and managed to move on from them?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/02/2025 18:06

I feel like I have been really lucky, I’m a regular 2lb a week gal, 2.5 lb off this morning, so I’m 1 whole pound short of three stone, and 3 pounds away from unchartered territory putting me in the 15’s. It feels unreal, like a dream. I haven’t seen 15 something on the scales for over 30 years.

sorry that some of you are plateauing, I haven’t yet experienced that on MJ, have done on previous diets, when that happened I gave up too easily. People talk about cycling calories, so some high days and low days (I suppose I do this as I do 5:2 fasting), but for now I have been consistently losing since October.

I also really struggled getting back into the swing of things after Christmas, change of routine didn’t help.

Perhaps if it really isn't shifting you need to go up a dose on your next one.

You might see a shift then.

I also agree ref cycling calories. I always loose the best when I do this.

It's easier on mj as I don't eat much on suppression days and eat more on hungry days.

Grumpyoldthing · 18/02/2025 19:59

Right everyone, I have my 5mg pen in the fridge ready to go , and two doses of 2.5 left in the old pen .

suppression is fairly rubbish now (week 6 )

can I take two doses of 2.5 next time, then move on to the 5mg the week after ? (Effectively starting the 5mg two weeks early?)

thanks you

Don’t see why not as long as it’s within the 30 days since it’s been opened, I went up to 3.75mg for two weeks in case of more side effects, as it’s the only time the dose is doubled, but it was fine and I’m now on 5.

I had a bit of a moment when I mistakenly ordered 2.5mg for my second pen when I really wanted 5mg. As I’d had 4 weeks on 2.5mg, I felt there was no difference than 1x5mg shot. I did two jabs each week (expensive but a good reminder to be more careful when I order). I used a new needle for each of the two parts, and jabbed in the same area but about 3-4 inches away. All was fine.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/02/2025 22:47

Yup @Grumpyoldthing I did the same when I stayed on 7.5 for 2 pens, and ended up on the 6th dose taking the 7.5 then counted clicks for 2.5 to get a 10mg dose.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 18/02/2025 09:56

Week 16 for me - started at 24 and a half stone, now down to 20stone 13 - moved up to 7.5mg this month. BMI now under 50.

Well done, 3.5 stone in 16 weeks is brilliant ⭐

GnomeDePlume · 20/02/2025 06:49

Good morning, weigh in and jab day. Currently on 10mg.

SW 137kg BMI 53.5
CW 122.5kg BMI 47.8
GW 60kg BMI 23.4

So, 14.5kg down in 13 weeks. 32 pounds in old money.

If you are thinking about starting mounjaro all I can say is it is working for me. Portion size was always my problem. Now I can eat a modest portion of any meal and not feel hard done by.

A couple of small wins yesterday, I had to pop to the dentist a few minutes walk away. I grabbed a jacket and was able to do it up (win 1) and was able to trot there and back without noticing any discomfort at all (win 2).

WafflingDreamer · 20/02/2025 06:58

Weigh in number 20
SW 21st 9lb (BMI 44.8)
CW 18st 5lb
GW 11st 9lb (BMI 24.1)
1lb down again this week
Losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1, +3, 5, 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 1, 1
Total loss 46lbs / 3st 4lb

My second week of only losing 1lb. I'm happy the scales are still going down and hoping it's slowed because I've increased my exercise the last 2 weeks. My next mini goal was to try to be 4st down by my birthday which is 4 more weigh ins so hopefully I'll have a big whoosh soon

TragicMuse · 20/02/2025 07:32

Eye results are fine. So I'm ready to start the order.

Pillsorted have rejected me for being on a T2D medication. Which is odd.

Now trying a different one.

I hope after all this I can actually get it!

Grumpyoldthing · 21/02/2025 09:24

Positive news here - 24 hours after taking my first 5mg (two 2.5 together) no side effects except a slight belly ache.

husband has taken his first dose today which is exciting! He has nowhere near what I have to lose , but about 4 stone , two of which he has gained in the last year and it’s a worry, so I’m hopeful for him.

im 6lb away from my next mini target (pre Covid weight) so I focused on the next few weeks!

good luck everyone.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/02/2025 09:35

I'm wk7d1 and really disappointed this week. I've had so much nausea that I've not eaten much and been really good at prioritising protein etc. I've been away from home so thought I'd at least come back to a weight loss...

Its like 0.2 kg. 😳.
I've not had any of the big losses people have had even though my starting weight was over 21stone and I'm eating upf free and eating so much less. It was averaging a kg a week which I thought long term would be okay but genuinely a bit surprised this week.

In my head I know it fluctuates and evens out and isn't linear. But in my heart I think after such a difficult week I'd hoped!!

SilenceInside · 21/02/2025 10:10

@Grumpyoldthing that sounds positive for the first week on 5mg, hope it continues to go well for you.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I will join you in the disappointment this week, in a strange coincidence I have only lost 0.2kg this week too. Not done anything different to previous weeks and irritatingly the scales showed a bigger loss mid week but that clearly didn't stick! Fingers crossed for a better result next week for both of us.

Friday is my weigh in day, so these are my current stats at the end of week 33:

SW: 139kg (21st 12 lbs)
CW: 94.2kg (14st 11 lbs), was 94.4kg (14st 12lbs) last week
GW: 90kg (14st 2 lbs) fourth interim goal.
Total of 99 pounds down, or 44.8kg.
Current pen: 7.5mg, 23 weeks on this dosage, week 3 on this particular pen.

I am 99% certain that I will order a 10mg pen next, given that my weight loss has slowed down to 0.5 to 1 pound a week.

Newshoesnewname · 21/02/2025 10:20

Hi all. Hope everything is good. I'm a little behind on the thread so need to go back and catch up, but it's weigh in day for me.

I've not had the best week food wise and am 551 calories over my weekly target (I don't really worry about daily calories as for instance yesterday I was 600 under, but I've been waaay over on other days🙈).

I wasn't expecting anything notable so when I stepped on the scales I thought they broken. I've somehow managed to loose 8 lb this week💪.

It takes my total loss up to 1 st. I'll have to pay attention now as I don't want to loose more than 2 lb per week average and I'm up to 5 mg next jab. Having said that though, I can't deny doing a little happy dance 😄.

W4 D1
SW 19 st 11 BMI 47.5
CW 18 st 11 BMI 45.1
Mini GW 17 st 13 by my holiday in May
Final GW BMI under 30

Have a good week all xx

Iwouldratherbesinging · 22/02/2025 22:59

I have my fingers crossed for you @TragicMuse!

@Grumpyoldthing, it’ll be really good motivation with you and your husband both on MJ, mine is on an enforced diet 😀, he has lost a couple of pounds which he’s pleased about but I think he’s missing his weekend desserts and my lack of baking. Glad the 5mg went ok for you.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden, hopefully those missing kg will come off next week, it doesn’t really matter what anyone says, it’s a big disappointment. I haven’t ever had any of those big losses either, at the beginning I so wanted them but they never materialised for me. I’m ok with it now I’m 20 weeks in. Fingers crossed for next weeks weigh in.
