Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Anyone else a daily weigher? I'm on day 12 and haven't had a day when I've gone up, even when I have only peed first thing.

Grumpyoldthing · 31/01/2025 10:46

I’m a daily weigher - I have a fitness app thing that daily weighs , then gives you a weekly sort of average.

I have gone up twice , both times have been 0.2 , and both after a very large meal the day before.

I have found I was down a larger amount a few days later .

Newshoesnewname · 31/01/2025 10:52

Did the jab last night right before bed but weighed, measured and checked in (Shemed) this morning.

SW 19 st 11
First GW 17 st 13
BMI 47.5
End Goal BMI in the overweight range

I'm going to resist the scales and only weigh weekly.

Kay2000 · 31/01/2025 11:29

I’ve switched my weigh-in day to Friday (last day of Jan seemed appropriate) and I’m very pleased with my first month, I go to the 5mg jab on Sunday (although intending to do 45 clicks to give me a 3.75mg this week). Only side effects I’ve had are severe fatigue a few hours after taking it, and insomnia which may or may not be related. I’ve had diarrhoea a couple of times but as I have IBS that’s not unusual, in fact, I’ve had that less. But that could be due to a much improved diet. I had a couple of episodes of feeling lightheaded and my blood pressure was low (I’m on meds currently), so I’m monitoring that every other day and drinking more water. Overall I’m very happy I mustered up the courage to try the injections.

22st (308lb)
21st 9lb (303)
21st 8lb (302)
21st 6lb (300)
21st 3lb (297)

Thank you for all your replies regarding daily calorie intake. I'm using an app to do it and it's a whole lot easier than when I was young and had to keep flicking through a book to find calorie listings. I'm going to continue for the next week or so but overall I'm quite happy that I know what/how much to eat.

So, first weigh-in today and 9lbs lost!! Also BMI is down from 50.3 to 48.8 so very happy with that. I'm hoping to lose 2lbs per week but I always lose a lot in the first week on any diet so it's a nice confidence boost.

Tainiz · 31/01/2025 18:54

@Grumpyoldthing, I get what you're saying about airline seats but I have found that seat-belt lengths vary between airlines, even if they use the same model of plane. It doesn't make sense to me, but there you go. Also, most people don't even notice and the rare occasion when it does happen then I just glare at the person and raise my eyebrows as if to say 'what's your problem?'. Please don't let it put you off.

Update! It turns out that as far as Medino are concerned you can be too fat (or perhaps 6cm too short) to buy Mounjaro so should wait for the wheels of the NHS to turn, hopefully before being morbidly obese for the 15th (? - its been a very long time) year on the trot finally kills me!! So I have now ordered from a different online pharmacy who had slightly different questions in their questionaire and required a full length photo and id before completing the transaction. Wish me luck!

How ridiculous - my BMI was 53 and I was accepted by Asda no problems, just needed to provide photos and proof of weight. Who have you applied to now?

I've applied to Farmeci this time and there was no mention of there being an upper bmi limit. (mine is 53/54 at the moment)

GnomeDePlume · 01/02/2025 07:49

@Tainiz that's an excellent start, well done.

Newshoesnewname · 01/02/2025 09:26

I'm a bit sad this morning. W1 D2 and no suppression at all for me.😥

I did wonder if I would be one of the people who don't have any effect until the higher doses as my body doesn't really react to anything. I never get sugar rushes, caffeine jitters, need higher doses of pain meds etc.

I did stick to my calories by willpower alone but it was tough. I will try to do as much as I can and think of it as the first month of any other diet but not holding out any hope for losses this month. If I maintain instead of gaining I'll take it as a win.

SeaStoat · 01/02/2025 10:55

It's only D2, @Newshoesnewname , so I hope you find notice some effect D3 or 4. The first pen doesn't deliver results for everyone - but means fewer side effects when we titrate up.

I have had a good response. Day 12 and I am really pleased to be into the twos - 299.6lbs this morning so 10.2lbs down, and my fattest trews are loose. I was feeling the arthritis again yesterday, so I'm looking forward to that maybe improving as my dose increases.

Kay2000 · 01/02/2025 11:14

@Newshoesnewname it’s very early days for you, with the half life of MJ you have more in your body with the second dose, so hopefully you’ll feel a difference in week 2.

Yeah, I know. I was half expecting it, but was really hopeful.

Still, I will do what I can this month to give me a head start for next month.

I do think I will try jabbing in my tummy rather than thigh next week as some people say this makes a difference..

Miley1967 · 01/02/2025 11:34

I started almost 3 weeks ago. have had reasonable weight loss but starting to get cravings back. I probably need to go up a dose but have ordered 2.5mg again as had some quite bad stomach problems so don't want to rush it. Got an afternoon tea booked this pm which is going to be hard, think I will have to donate a lot of mine to dh. I can honestly say i have not eaten anything sweet for 3 weeks though which is amazing for me !

Thank you 😁

morbidcuriosity · 01/02/2025 15:17

I'm asking this on a couple of threads, so apologies if you've read or already answered me..

Has anyone switched to oushk? . I want to as I need to choose a delivery day as finding it hard to be in when guessing when orders are approved etc.

My question is my last box (7.5) has Dec 29th order date on it, but I've not even started that pen yet, got my bonus dose to do then start it..
Will they let me order if the date goes much further, was gonna order now for delivery about 12th Feb . But then I don't actually need it till like 6 weeks from now. I used discounts etc that's why I have a full pen still and not ordered for a while..

TorturedParentsDepartment · 01/02/2025 17:11

I'm now pushing 21st 4lb, having started at over 24stone... losing a good 2 cm off most of my measurements a month and having purged the worst stuff from my wardrobe - but not massively dropped dress sizes yet.

That's after 4 months - 2 on 2.5 and 2 on 5mg - going to go to 7.5 when this current pen runs out.

Lobsterteapot · 01/02/2025 18:10

Weigh in 3 on Friday and a pound lost (plus the pound I’d put on my weekend away) so now sitting at 23,8 three weeks in.

It has been a super busy week away with work, including two boozy dinners. Still feeling the restriction, no food noise and not needing to eat to excess even though there were multiple opportunities to do so.

Feeling extremely tired (and a bit hung over) today and usually this would be binge urge central but no urges at all

Made some soup and have had a chicken Caesar salad instead. Life is definitely better on MJ 🥂

Lobsterteapot · 01/02/2025 18:14

About the question on calories, I’m type 2 diabetic so use the nutricheck app to log everything I eat.

Honestly I struggle getting more than 1500-1600 calories in.

I make sure each meal has 20-30 grams protein. Less than 150gms of carbs a day and I try to do 30 plants a week. If I focus on these 3 the calories take care of themselves.

JusteanBiscuits · 01/02/2025 21:02

Remember the mustard yellow dress which was my main initial goal?

Guess what I'm wearing!! 😱😱😁😁

Yay to a clothes victory!

OliviaFlaversham · 02/02/2025 09:12

November 2nd - start date and BMI was 50.4 at 23 stone exactly.

The weight loss tracker app I use suggested 9 stone something as my goal weight but I’ve put in 13 stone as I don’t remember being that since I was a teenager.

Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/02/2025 09:37

@OliviaFlaversham thabks for sharing that. I'm losing slowly so far and that's such a good graph to show how there might not always look like it's moving but then it does and how it's not linear - it does go in fits and starts!

I'm starting at 22st and imagine it will be quite a lot of stone before I actually change dress size/it's visible to others but I'm looking forwards to it!
