Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

A friend of mine had a gastric bypass around 20 years ago. She lost ten stone and kept it off for several years but it’s crept back on. Plus she has developed agoraphobia and doesn’t even go out for a walk so no exercise or long term change in diet or lifestyle. On top of that she’s unwell, being chronically deficient in several vitamins and minerals inc B12, folic acid, and iron. It’s not the answer although as @GnomeDePlume says, bariatric surgeons will say it is.

That’s incredibly sad 😔

JusteanBiscuits · 21/01/2025 12:32

Oh, just updated my spreadsheet - and I have hit a milestone! 20% of bodyweight lost!

WafflingDreamer · 21/01/2025 13:08

I think its a hard thing for the NHS to roll out. Just a quick read of some of the WLI boards show you people eating 1 banana a day and wondering why they've passed out, or only drinking 1 coffee a day and dehydrating themselves. Realistically lots of people have not read any instructions about how to administer so I suspect the NHS would want nurses to administer injections. The NHS will only want people to lose 2-3lb a week so they'll want to be monitoring people closely to make sure people are following guidance.

I do wonder whether the NHS could start rolling it out with a subsidy although not sure how they'd monitor it.

Mine are prescribed via NHS. I was given a lesson on how to inject, but I inject myself. But I do have to send in my weight readings every month, and my consultant has told me to aim for 2lb a week, and that if I went over 3lb a week regularly, or the average lost in previous month was more than 3lb a week, then he would remove it - weight loss more than that, other than the occasional week, is dangerous and you are at risk of becoming under nourished.

GnomeDePlume · 21/01/2025 14:44

Mine are prescribed by NHS. I got no instruction on how to inject. Follow up has been a single 5 minute phone call from my diabetes nurse.

Some people need support but by no means all. The people posting on WLI boards (including here) are a self selecting bunch and should not be taken as representative.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/01/2025 17:21

Gosh @Kay2000 that is sad. So many of these follow up studies are only a few years later rather than long term aren't they. I've been terrified go surgery but thought it was inevitable health wise.

I am struggling a bit with side effects on MJ but the alternative is worse and im so sorry for those who did have surgery and it's affected them. Longer term.

I am slightly worried about long term for us all too but realising I may need to be open to jabs. I just hope there aren't lkng term side effects like the person kat mentioens after bariatric surgery for us on these!

vix3rd · 21/01/2025 21:36

A woman at my husbands work has spent £300 on the pens so far. Hasn’t lost a thing. Couldn’t understand it.

Turns out she didn’t read any of the instructions or anything and didn’t take the cap off the top of the syringe so has just been scooting the liquid onto the floor.

Unbelievable.

FknOmniShambles · 22/01/2025 05:45

@vix3rd oh my god!!! 😳 I don't know if I'd tell a soul if that were me!!
How are we all doing this week? I'm still feeling good and feeling changes in my body. I'm still getting hunger pangs but my willpower is definitely stronger and I have stuck to my planned meals completely. As well as the improved food, the drastic alcohol intake is hugely affecting me for the better. I don't know how I was functioning on such huge amounts of sugar, as well as the negative effects of the alcohol itself.
Horrifically, at the point I decided to start MJ li think I was consuming 1500calories a day through alcohol alone, as well as my shit food. No wonder I've become a mess.
Absolutely 100% determined I will not stay like this.

TheTwinklyBlueTiger · 22/01/2025 06:16

I wasn't sure how things would go being on nightshift, I've not really lost much the past 2 days but maintained my 13lb loss since 8th of January.

Nightshift really messes with my body! 😪

GnomeDePlume · 22/01/2025 06:21

@vix3rd there is always one!

@FknOmniShambles I think what this gives you is the sense that there is another way. It doesnt feel like a major effort or that you have to join a cult.

Prior to this, the most effective diet I have been on is Lighter Life. I lost weight but learn nothing so as soon as I stopped, the weight crept back on again.

SW always felt a bit 'culty' to me. Public shaming and congratulating. I could never get my head round the idea of a slimming club having a tuck shop. Also weird food hacks: putting balsamic vinegar in some lemonade as a Pimms substitute. It only tastes like Pimms if you have never had Pimms before.

I am diabetic so this is likely to be for life for me. Slow weight loss is fine. 0.5kg per week will see me hit my goal across a couple of years.

FknOmniShambles · 22/01/2025 06:47

@GnomeDePlume i completely agree about the cultishness. I did SW and yes I lost three stone but it was so, so restrictive and I loathed the meetings but told myself it was the only way. I lost three stone but stopped going when I moved house and it instantly came back on and plenty more. What I'm enjoying at the moment is that I don't feel restricted. I'm making healthy choices but not stupid ones like bloody balsamic pimms!! I mean HONESTLY!! 😂
So, no complaints from me. Obviously it's a big financial commitment but I'm fortunate that I can manage it, even when the doses increase.

Grumpyoldthing · 22/01/2025 08:05

Have also done slimming w in the past…. Have managed 2 stone before but it doesn’t last , and I have never like the encouragement to eat sweeteners (diet pop and heavily processed foods for example)

so let’s see how this goes! Good week so far …… so far good losses of 3lb this week …. Stayed the same this morning, but last week I stayed the same for three days then dropped 1.5 in a day , so I think it takes a few days for me to catch up!

nearly at week two and very happy

Kay2000 · 22/01/2025 08:26

@vix3rd Stupid woman, did she think it was getting into her body via osmosis 🤷‍♀️🤣

I’m doing ok so far this week, my appetite isn’t as suppressed as much as week 1 or 2, but enough for me to happily be eating 2 or 3 x day plus 2 satsumas for snacks. Chocolate was my downfall and I have only had 3 squares in over two weeks and haven’t missed it at all. I’ve been out to a coffee shop with friends and not even thought about buying cake. So I’m happy it’s working well and enabling me to resist. After being disappointed with my Sunday weigh in, I’ve just done a midweek one and I’m currently 21st 4lb, from my start of 22st, very happy with that.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 22/01/2025 09:57

@vix3rd omg! How!! I have no words 😶

ah, slimming world… I think it broke me, I would starve myself for two days prior to being publicly weighed, stuff my face the evening after being weighed to try and eat everything I missed, then take laxatives for three days to try and limit the damage, I was stuck in a miserable unhealthy cycle, lost about three stone, but needless to say I piled it all back on and some extra! I never want to be that person again.

@Kay2000 i’m struggling to find satsumas, I don’t like clementines or the easy peelers, where did you find them?

Booths which is a small supermarket up north. But they may have been clementines tbh, I’m not sure now. They’re nice tho.

299.2 lb this morning! First mini target! It’s been two years since I was under 300 ! (Maybe three )

Well done, that's fantastic news.

GnomeDePlume · 23/01/2025 09:33

@Grumpyoldthing congratulations, that's excellent.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 23/01/2025 10:57

@Grumpyoldthing woo hoo!

GnomeDePlume · 23/01/2025 11:50

Weigh in day for me:

SW 137kg BMI 53.5
CW 127kg BMI 49.6
TW 60kg BMI 23.4

So 10kg down after 9 weeks on MJ. This week will be second injection at 7.5.

TW is a bit of a fantasy as it would put me in the healthy weight BMI, a place I have never ventured into in my life.

Only odd side effect is that MJ seems to have made me more sensitive to warfarin (blood clotting disorder). My warfarin dosage required is coming down faster than my weight.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 23/01/2025 17:18

Weigh in/jab day for me too. I’ve lost another 4lbs this week, a total of 17lbs in 2 weeks. I’m over the moon!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 23/01/2025 21:19

Amazing losses from everyone!

FknOmniShambles · 24/01/2025 05:39

Incredible losses! @GnomeDePlume 10kg after 9 weeks is amazing!
I'm jabbing today, third jab. Will weigh in shortly!

Grumpyoldthing · 24/01/2025 06:27

Official loss after two weeks

5.6lbs

I am trying to be positive with it , obviously I know it’s a good steady recommend weight loss, but people do seem to be having massive weight loss in comparison…..

I am over the moon I’m at 299 now 🥳 and also 2.5 lb a week would be 50lb by summer - which would be my lightest in 15 years so really something to aim for

well done every one x

I don’t even feel like I’m dieting
