Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Er, please ignore last night's pity-fest because I've used a different set of scales this morning which put me at 24st 1lb, which would be a loss of 13lb this week. I'm not sure if this is correct but I'm glad there's clearly been a loss of some kind at least! Feeling hung over this morning and letting myself suffer every second of it to remind myself why alcohol is now limited to one night a week. Good luck everyone who's weighing in today!

Kay2000 · 18/01/2025 09:16

@FknOmniShambles I’m pleased you’re feeling more positive this morning! And lost weight!! When I read your first post I was going to suggest different scales as there’s no way you can cut all those calories and not lose a lb. However 13lb is huge - are you eating enough? Or is it the sudden absence of alcohol? Either way it will hopefully settle down over the coming weeks. Well done!

OliviaFlaversham · 18/01/2025 11:29

@FknOmniShambles that is brilliant and mostly so because you can feel it!

FknOmniShambles · 18/01/2025 11:31

Thanks both - I think the 13lb might be correct and the zero alcohol may have contributed to that. Although the food I've had has been healthy and largely unprocessed I don't think I ate enough on some days and I've got to not do that, as I that's when it you start to resent it and self sabotage. I've just never had a healthy view of food and either binge hugely and mindlessly or diet and see any food as a failure.

OliviaFlaversham · 18/01/2025 11:34

Weigh in day. Have one more 7.5 dose left but think I’ll stick at 7.5 for another month even though the suppression isn’t great and there is creeping food noise. The weeks I stayed the same I ate exactly what I wanted (which was tonnes) over Christmas. Was expecting a stone gain so was very happy to not see that!

Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.
FknOmniShambles · 18/01/2025 13:09

Wow @OliviaFlaversham what an incredible run of losses! How much can you see a difference in your body, would you say? Have others commented?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/01/2025 13:25

@FknOmniShambles that 1st set of scales definitely need reprimanding and putting away! It definitely takes a while to get out of our original mindsets around eating and guilt. I kept asking myself at the beginning when heavily restricting ‘is this sustainable for the rest of my life or will I resent it’…

@OliviaFlaversham, that’s amazing! You should be so proud of yourself!

I had a non scale victory of sorts today, drove DH to the station today and noticed the normal one inch between my tummy and the steering wheel is now about 5 inches!

Wow @OliviaFlaversham what an incredible run of losses! How much can you see a difference in your body, would you say? Have others commented?

It’s 18% of my starting weight I’ve just worked out. One person who I don’t know well (and is known for being outspoken) said beautifully bluntly, ‘wow you’ve lost weight’ but no one else (apart from a best friend who knows I’m doing this).

I notice a LOT. SIZE 22 was tight on me at 23 stone. I have noticed I roughly am in dress size what I am to the nearest stone. Size 20 is baggy (apart from skinny jeans) but size 18 too tight to do up. My knees don’t hurt and my ankles haven’t swollen in a while. I’m not as tired either. I’m mostly really hoping it carries on as I hope with another 3 stone (I don’t remember being lighter than 16 stone ever!) I’ll really feel it.

What you wrote about your relationship with food and dieting, I could have written word for word.

Lobsterteapot · 18/01/2025 13:55

I read through all these comments and just nod and smile. It’s so wonderful that us pretty hardened cases with lots of weight to lose are finally seeing results because of this wonderful drug. I knew I could do this - I just needed a tool to help me.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden Im definitely eating but now all the noise and emotion is taken out of it I’ve got clarity to make better choices.
I’m trying to follow the bariatric surgery guidance (cos that’s what’s happening if this doesn’t work) so protein first and at least 20-30gms per meal, then veg/fruit then carbs. plus loads of water.
I’ve also being trying to get variety and do the 30 different plants per week challenge (not too difficult as you can include herbs and spices)

MummyInTheNecropolis · 18/01/2025 15:03

Hi, can I join you please? I started Mounjaro the Thursday before last, so I’m one week and 2 days in. Starting weight was 24 stone 13lbs. First week weigh in I was 24 stone 0. Absolutely ecstatic with 13lbs loss! Still a long way to go but I’m feeling positive.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 18/01/2025 15:07

I feel like for the first time in my life I am eating like a ‘normal’ person. Still 3 meals a day, lots of veg, but normal sized portions (half the size of my portions before)! I generally have a piece of fruit for breakfast, some soup or a small portion of couscous and roasted veg/salad for lunch and then some fish/chicken in sauce with a small amount of rice or potatoes and vegetables for dinner. Sometimes a yoghurt or a tiny bit of chocolate in between but not every day.

What are your meals looking like?

FknOmniShambles · 18/01/2025 15:22

@MummyInTheNecropolis very well done! My starting weight and first week loss were exactly the same as you!
My meals are simple but enjoyable at the mo - breakfast usually a slice of toast and smoked salmon or salmon pate, lunch salad or fruit, dinner usually a lean meat and lots of veg.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 18/01/2025 15:24

I did my second jab yesterday. It looks like I've lost 3.3 kilos BUT my period came the day after and my weight fluctuates a lot around my (irregular) period so it could be just that. I DO feel I am so much calmer around food though, so I'm happy its working and even this long term would be great! I don't want to not eat at all and am eating meals even if I don't "fancy" food as I think its helping my nausea. I'm struggling a bit with nausea and fatigue. I get a headache striaght after the jab but I can deal with that with a tablet!

Really appreciate you all as ever!

Boobecks200 · 18/01/2025 15:27

I’ve been using Mounjaro for nearly two weeks and I was always that person who didn’t want to get extra help such as injections and just didn’t think it would work.
aside from the 6lb weigh loss in the FIRST WEEK, my mood is so much better! I feel better in myself mentally and physically, I bounce of bed and usually I’m not a morning person! So anyone reading this thread and doesn’t feel like they can do it, you can! Financially it’s doable because you won’t be eating as much, no takeaways, no fizzy drinks etc!

let me know about your journey, I wish you the best! 💜

Welcome @MummyInTheNecropolis we are your people 😍

Defo @Boobecks200 I usually struggle to get up in the mornings but I’m defo sleeping better and waking up naturally

Newshoesnewname · 19/01/2025 12:12

Hi all

Wondering if I can join you.

I'm also on the Shemed starters group as I've signed up for the discount plan. It's the only way I can afford this

I'm 54 and menopausal. Have struggled with my weight and yo yo dieted since I was 14 years old but in the last 3 years my weight has rocketed by 3 stone and I can no longer shift a stone by jumping on one sort of diet arr another.

Despite being the heaviest I've ever been, it seems the only way to loose weight is on sub 1000 calories which is a miserable existence and not sustainable for more than a couple of weeks when you are constantly hungry.

Funnily enough, I can fast for extended periods of time, but once I start eating I literally cannot stop. I've not met anyone else like this before but I think somebody up thread said the same thing?

I've got 9st 10 to loose to get into a normal BMI but I've not been there my entire adult life so I don't even know if it's possible.

For now my first goal is 10% of my bodyweight which seems like a long way away

Next goal will be BMI below 40. It's currently 47.

I'm praying I get accepted for the Shemed trial because I don't know what I'll do otherwise.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 19/01/2025 13:21

Welcome @Newshoesnewname, nice to see you here! That’s me, I can fast no problem but as soon as I eat I can’t stop and I have no idea why. That’s all stopped on MJ now, I had three chocolate buttons the other day, that’s unheard of! I have just hit a loss of 12% of my body weight since starting this and my bmi has dropped to 42, it’s taken 3 months, it’s a good feeling, I’m really sad that this wonderful drug wasn’t available sooner, I’m 57 and feel like I have never known a life without obesity, I have no idea what it will even be like but I’m very much looking forward to it.
I hope you get accepted, I’ve been reading the SheMed thread and it’s really interesting to see people’s insights and their worries, we all have the same fears. Good luck and stay around to let us know how you get on!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 19/01/2025 14:34

@MummyInTheNecropolis I bet 13lbs felt good! Wowzers. I think my meals are roughly the same as yours but I love bulgur wheat rather than cous cous. I tend to skip either breakfast or lunch depending on my appetite as I want to enjoy my dinner.
The biggest thing I’ve learnt is being able to judge my portion size, I was always dishing up too much, it took a while to figure out the amount I’m able to comfortably eat, it’s a real eye opener comparing it to what I used to put on my plate!

Thank you for accepting me

I'm equally petrified and excited, and I haven't told anyone. I want to see how it goes for a bit as I still have the worry that I might have yet again spent money on another diet that won't work. My head tells me no, but I've been at this game for 40 years so I can't help but be cynical.

That is a dangerous levels of loss. I know it's really tempting to not eat and get mega weight loss - but you do have to be really careful. My consultant told me he would take me off it if my average weekly loss went above 3lb, and that I should aim for 1kg / 2lb a week.

SilenceInside · 19/01/2025 16:18

@Newshoesnewname hello 👋As far as I can see from the Shemed threads they seem to accept nearly everyone that applies, blood test results seem to be quite varied but that doesn't seem to be an issue for most. So, hopefully you will be signed up soon. If not, then you can chop and change suppliers each time you order to get new customer discounts which can keep the price down to around the £100 mark too.

Thanks. I'm hoping i won't be the 1 in however many that gets rejected.

I get the swapping providers, codes etc but I'm breaking the bank with the £99 a month. I wouldn't be able to go over, so what happens the months I can't get a pen? I don't know if you can safely keep going on and off it, and I wouldn't want to. Plus I understand it gets more expensive in the higher doses.

How many of your pens have been £100?

It's been a really big decision for me to commit to this amount for a year.

Surprisingly, apart from high blood pressure I don't have any other weight related conditions so would never be eligible on the NHS.

It's a real shame as I think this would massively benefit the NHS but at the moment it's just another example of health inequality in the UK.

Kay2000 · 19/01/2025 18:19

@Newshoesnewname it’s almost impossible to get on the NHS unless you have diabetes too. My BMI is 53 and I do have weight related problems and I can’t access it where I am in Lancashire. I can have gastric surgery though, which to me is bonkers.

My second weigh in was disappointing. Since yesterday I have apparently gained 3lb so my weekly loss is officially 1lb. I know it’s not possible to gain 3lb of fat, I probably need a 💩 or something 🤣. I’m not going to weigh again until next Sunday and hope to see a good loss. Still 6lb in two weeks is 6lb more than I’ve lost in years so I’m still feeling very positive. I could feel the MJ effect wearing off from Friday, so I’m pleased I reordered the next pen up.

Yes, crazy isn't it.

I guess if they wait long enough everyone who can afford it will have, the private companies will have provided all the data and they can then begin to prescribe to everyone else.

SilenceInside · 19/01/2025 19:33

@Newshoesnewname I haven't been chasing discounts or referrals so haven't got the big discounts that many seem to manage. I swapped providers recently as the 7.5mg pens I'm on were getting expensive enough to consider it. I'm extremely fortunate not to have to swap and change for the discounts, but some people do seem to manage it and keep their costs down. Obviously if £100 is already the top end that you've already had to stretch to, then you can't risk going any higher than that.
