Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

I can't imagine ordering a 14 or even a 12! To be honest, neither are even on my radar as a "goal"!!! Can I ask what your starting size was?

JusteanBiscuits · 06/01/2025 13:16

i got brave and did it!! Thank you for the encouragement.

They fit! And not over tight, but properly, comfortably fit! Can't wait to wear them now.

Amazing - it's such a boost isn't it.

JusteanBiscuits · 06/01/2025 14:04

I do think Seasalt come up quite large in their sizing. But I'm taking it!

Grumpyoldthing · 06/01/2025 18:10

Finally had my first pen approved- this feels like it’s been a month in the making 🙄 and I don’t actually have it yet .

im trying to eat well by myself. I haven’t lost anything but I am only 1lb heavier then a month ago - I’m quite happy with this because Christmas

chicken , potatoes and veg is cooking atm .

Iwouldratherbesinging · 06/01/2025 19:39

only 1lb gained in a month and over Christmas is an amazing achievement @Grumpyoldthing, I’m sure last Christmas saw me at least 5-6lb heavier!

weigh day for me tomorrow and it’s been my first week on 10mg. I’ve been feeling a bit meh about the whole thing the last few days, I think it’s because I’ve been off of work since the 22nd December and all routines went out the window. Going back to work today has perked me up, who’d have thought I’d be happy to go back 🤣

Hi all, I posted a while back, unsure whether to start or not. Well, I bit the bullet and have ordered my first dose from ASDA - not the cheapest but I much prefer to collect rather than have it delivered. Just had to send delightful pictures of myself holding the date up before the will prescribe the medicine, so hopefully those are approved soon.
Very much looking forward to getting started - I weighed myself properly today and am 25 stone. Just horrific. I have always been heavy but carried it well with a small waist,. Hips, boobs, etc. until a few years ago when I just lost the plot and haven't picked myself up out of this mess.
Can't wait to get started.

JusteanBiscuits · 06/01/2025 22:19

Spent the evening on Vinted! Favourited a few things, but so hard to know what to buy! Ok, it's only 1 size, but it's pretty much nearly 2 if that makes sense. From a tight 24 to a loose 22.

Doggymummar · 06/01/2025 22:37

VINTED is great. I've sold about 40 things since Christmas, 20s and 18s have sold really well, the larger sizes tend to. All my 16s are still sitting there. Last year 2023 my 24s and 22 s flew off the shelves too. Be sure to list yours as you grow out of them as there will be someone grateful for the opportunity to get a bargain and it gives you a bit of money for new things

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/01/2025 23:11

I've been thinking if I lose 5 stone I will still be 17stone... Which is the size people often start at when it's a morbidly obese weight loss story.

I'm wondering if I'll even change dress size or if I've just been wearing stretchy clothes.

I even think it might not be noticeable as I will still just look generally "morbidly obese".

I'm really hoping though that after that it will start being noticeable.

Everything in me wishes it won't take so long but it really will and that's okay.

I was hoping by summer I might look different but I think I'll know it if I've lost weight and be on the right track even if realistically I'll be morbidly obese for ages!

I'm also nervous that what if after losing say 5 stone it stops working or tails off 😬.
I start Friday and just so hope it works for me.

Miley1967 · 06/01/2025 23:14

Thanks for starting this thread op. I have at least 10 stone to lose and have ordered my first pen, just waiting for Dr to approve the order.

I feel this way. I'm 6lb down on Mounjaro but still 22 stone 10lb. If I lose 5 stone now I'll be 17 stone 10lb.

But it's a start and the lowest weight I'll have been since I was about 23. So I'll take it over this.

I'm right there with you in the trenches.

SilenceInside · 06/01/2025 23:17

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden you will look different when you get to a 5 stone or so loss. I didn't think my loss was as dramatic as I'd expected... then I had to redo my application photos for a new supplier and I compared them to the ones I did for Asda right at the start. Well, I was amazed. I look like a different person when I looked at the pictures side by side. I'm still obese, and still at a weight that many people start at, but I look so much more different than I realised.

So much so that I've actually started to allow people to photograph me, where I always used to duck out of group photos at family events and with friends.

Mounjaro is still working well for me, still on the 7.5mg which I have been for 3 months or so now.

I have gone with ASDA too and have just sent my photos today. I have buried my head in the sand for so long that I don't even have any decent scales so had to go to a local pharmacy where the very kind pharmacist let me use the scales. I have now ordered some ! I weighed in at 21.5 stone. Like you I just can't wait to get started now.

SilenceInside · 06/01/2025 23:19

Also, just wanted to say hello to the new starters joining @FknOmniShambles @Miley1967 and @Lobsterteapot plus anyone else that I haven't spotted.

PinkArt · 06/01/2025 23:24

Nah, fuck that noise @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden, you won't 'only' have got down to 17 stone, you'll have lost 5 stone. Big cheer for future you!
I had a similar wobble when I set up my latest weight loss spread sheet. Realising that at the pound a week I've lost previously it was going to take actual years was far from ideal. Then I charted 2 pounds a week, which is more like what I've lost so far on MJ and that sees me at my goal before next Christmas. Still feels a long way off but each pound off is a win and feels better. I'm enjoying updating the spreadsheet with happier numbers each week.
Onwards and downwards.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/01/2025 23:35

Thankyou all for the encouragement. I do know you're all right really and I need to start somewhere. I just so grateful for mn people to be able to hear from others who are doing it to.
@VelvetWildflower Yes we will get there and in 6 months look back and reflect on how well we're doing! Even if there's a lot more to go. I'm hoping for lots of mini non scale victories I think.
@SilenceInside You've done so amazingly and yes this is fantastic to hear from someone whose at that point!
@PinkArt You are fab and yes you're right :) and yes at 2lb a week I'd be on a completely different place this time next year. Still obese but not mobridly so! And so much closer to the end goal.

I so hope it works and keeps going!

Has anyone had to deal with skin yet? I know I'll have an apron and saggy arms (and thighs?) but I've compeltely told myself it would be worth it to be healthy. I just hope it doesn't look too odd once clothed.

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 07/01/2025 06:36

Morning new starter here. Got my pen last week and did my first jab on Thursday.

I’m definitely eating considerably less food that I would be normally but still have some food noise about 5/5:30pm so will bring my dinner time earlier.

Are People calorie counting? I’m using Calorie Counter and I’m trying to stick to 1200-1500 calories a day and I’m mostly achieving it.

I’ve never been this big and had had to go up to a size 24 in my jeans in November.

my family and I went to Chessington in the summer and I had to get off a ride because I was too fat and the bar couldn’t come down. I never want to experience that humiliation ever again.

GnomeDePlume · 07/01/2025 06:56

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden you won't necessarily have lots of loose skin. First thing is that stretch marks become less, well, stretched.

It's all about the small wins:

  • That top you stopped wearing because it was feeling tight will be wearable again.
  • Popping back upstairs to pick up something without thinking about it.
  • Noticing something dropped on the floor and bending down to pick it up.

Non-scalable wins for me now after 6 weeks:

  • less frequent needing to wee in the night
  • fewer skin infections
(These are both diabetes related)
  • a pair of trainers I bought now fit
  • I have more energy. We were shovelling horse muck on our allotment and I did my fare share of the work, not stopping to have a rest after every couple of barrow loads.

In 6 weeks I have lost 8kg. Minor compared to how much I have to lose. But that is 8kg I'm no longer carrying around.

BMI has dropped from 53.5 to 50.

In total I need to lose 75kg to reach a healthy BMI. I'm now just over 10% of the way there.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/01/2025 07:04

@GnomeDePlume wow!!! Yes all of that is amazing and I relate so much to the not picking thing up (I ask my kids to) and feeling I hold people back. I was scared id have less energy on the drug as a side effect but in time less weight has to make us less tired.

And thanks for putting it in perspective. And we'll done for you first 6weeks! That is fantastic.

Hopefully in 6weeks I'll be able to write something similar :)

Im almost too scared to hope this time will be "different" from all my other attempts!

GnomeDePlume · 07/01/2025 07:36

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I haven't noticed a loss of energy at all. The opposite if anything.

Remember that mounjaro works by getting your body to process the food you eat more effectively. So that your food provides energy rather than being laid down as fat.

Also, each kilo lost is one less kilo for your body to have to maintain and for you to have to carry around.
