Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

I've had what i wanted these past few days. But my portions have been around 60% smaller than usual, without me trying to limit at all.
No snacking and the dessert was barely touched by me.
DH is wanting to lose some weight (I think he should eat healthier in for his health). So he's agreed to make better choices from Monday, which will make it even easier for me.
Broccoli and chicken next week 😋

Hope you’re doing well still !

I finally just ordered the the first dose today, I feel better for making a bloody decision 🤣

bookish babe I used your special number - it got me £40 off so thank you

Iwouldratherbesinging · 31/12/2024 10:09

Post Christmas weigh in today for me and I’ve lost 1lb! I don’t think that has ever happened and I’ve been around for 57 christmases 😂 I am going to see the new year in with a small glass of baileys.
happy new year every one - looking forward to see what 2025 brings

Lobsterteapot · 31/12/2024 11:41

That’s brilliant @Iwouldratherbesinging

Thank you everyone for describing what Mounjaro feels like. I can’t imagine a life without food noise!

My NHS drs surgery have confirmed that I can use Mounjaro alongside all my other meds and it should give me better blood sugar control. I’m seeing the diabetes nurse in Feb for my annual MOT so I’ll ask about the NHS jabs then considering I’m in the queue for a sleeve.

What day should I start?! Are there any best options? Am I right in thinking that you get the strongest suppression in the first few days?
Would love some tips

PinkArt · 31/12/2024 11:57

@Lobsterteapot I jab on a Friday night.
Night so if I have (I haven't yet) any immediate side effects then I can sleep off the worst.
Friday so suppression is highest over the weekend when I'm most prone to mindless snacking. And also Friday as that's my 'Friday calories don't count' day, so it works best for suppression to be lowest then.
Have a think about what works best for your average week. If you eat out a lot at the weekend for eg, I'd go for early in the week.

I can’t imagine it either! I rang Asda as I hadn’t heard anything since sending photos and they’ve just approved me, arriving Thursday. I’m thinking I’ll do injections on Sunday night, as I don’t work and Monday is usually my quietest day.

GnomeDePlume · 31/12/2024 12:55

@Lobsterteapot and anyone else taking other medications alongside mounjaro, do make sure your GP is aware.

I'm on warfarin and my blood tests are already showing that my dosage needs to come down. I dont think this is weight loss related I think it is more to do with how my body is now processing warfarin.

BookishBabe · 31/12/2024 14:55

@grumpyoldthing well done on getting started.

Some people are asking what it feels like.
I've had some good days, I'm coming to the end of my 2.5mg pen, which is just the starter dose. I'm still feeling fuller on less food, but I am thinking about food more, but it is christmas.
I've put 5lbs on over a week and a bit, I'm not bothered about that as I know its water weight and Digestive tract food. Back to better choices tomorrow.

Anyway, I have been hungry when I'm calorie controlling, but I explained the feeling to my MIL as "all food feels about as appetising as dog shit, I'm still hungry, but I have no want or need in me at all to eat anything." So I think that's what the lack of food noise is. I'm not wanting the Thai food they eat when I rewatch the big bang theory, the mcdonalds advert doesn't make me groan in annoyance, I don't want to steal the kids chicken nuggets.
But I'm definitely used to the 2.5mg and have been eating 2 or 3 smaller meals over christmas and no snacking. Some sulphur burps but I'm feeling okay.

Feeling ready for my grilled chicken and vegetables tomorrow!

I'm skipping weigh in day today as I know I will be sad if I have put on weight - not been perfect, but still SO much better than I could have been. So decided that skipping a week was an OK decision!

Also jabbing tomorrow instead of today as likely to drink tonight (not heavily, I never drink heavily - and DAMN, just realised I forgot to buy tequila!) so thought that wouldn't be a bad idea.

JusteanBiscuits · 31/12/2024 15:02

Oh. Emailed consultant last week to ask to stay on 12.5mg as I am losing weight with minimal side effects. But he is keen for me to move straight to 15mg after this pen is finished. I said I felt good on this dose, and worry about "burning out" on it so want to have more options. But he seems to think 20mg will be my best therapeutic dose (this isn't for weight loss, this is for control of effects from adrenal tumours) but I feel good, so hmm

TorturedParentsDepartment · 03/01/2025 10:49

I am wearing clothes bought from the supermarket! This was a bit of a midway goal for me - to be able to pick up the odd item in Asda! Size 24-26 joggers, but if anything they're a bit roomy and I could probably drop down a size if required, and the 2XL hoodie is on the roomier side.

Primark watch out because I shall be coming for you soon!

Sounds really daft doesn't it - being able to buy clothes somewhere other than the "fat shops" as a big goal point!

SilenceInside · 03/01/2025 11:12

@TorturedParentsDepartment it's not daft at all, I think all of us here on this thread totally understand that feeling. Congratulations on the weight loss!

PinkArt · 03/01/2025 11:36

It's my birthday today and mounjaro brought me the present of no longer being morbidly obese 🥳
I am a mere 39.9 BMI today. What a skinny bitch, honestly I'm wasting away!

Happy Birthday and congratulations I remember when I hit that point too. A year later I'm heading for a February overweight ( at last that's what I think 30 is! )

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 03/01/2025 12:49

@TorturedParentsDepartment not daft at all. This has been one of my goals too. My next one is to be able to buy clothes on the high street. Currently size 22 but close to 20. Think I probably need to be an 18 before I can wander into a shop and have realistic options. Hate having to order everything from the places that do bigger sizes online but not in store

Oh wow happy birthday and congratulations!!!! That is my main aim to no longer be "morbid" ( I hopefully start next week and I think to not be obese at all is 9 stone away so I have a way to go)!)

Well done 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

SilenceInside · 03/01/2025 13:29

The first weigh in of 2025 for me today. I am very relieved to have continued to lose, albeit only a little, over the last couple of weeks.

Current stats at the end of week 26:

SW: 139kg (21st 12 lbs)
CW: 99.3kg (15st 9 lbs)
GW: 90kg (14st 2 lbs) fourth interim goal.

I'm still on 7.5mg. I've decided to switch away from Asda, as they are fairly expensive. I switched to Zava (who are behind the scenes at Asda anyway) as they are cheaper and I could use a new customer offer. I am waiting to be approved after sending in the initial photos. I will imagine they will ask me for proof of my previous 7.5mg prescription before they approve it. Hopefully they will get back to me promptly.

It will be. I've got it marked on the forecast column on my weight loss spreadsheet. Bit of a way off for me still but I'm so pleased for you that it's on the horizon.

It will be two years in March I've been on Oz and MJ , long time coming. Well done to you.

Lobsterteapot · 03/01/2025 20:12

Had my first jab a couple of hours ago. Feeling hopeful and nervous

Lobsterteapot · 04/01/2025 18:42

Feeling full today. Like I had a good meal 30 mins ago (but haven’t) Not sure if it’s psychological? Really hoping it’s the Mounjaro

PinkArt · 04/01/2025 20:17

It kicked in from day 1 for me too @Lobsterteapot . I didn't feel full but had an utter lack of hunger - no grumbling tummy, no feeling a bit lightheaded. On that first morning thought I'd leave it to see how long that lasted and eventually ate something at 3ish when it was still lasting.
Touch wood but I feel like the balance is right for me. I don't really get hungry but rarely get uncomfortably full either.

Curvy4life · 05/01/2025 12:57

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well.

Love hearing how you are all doing. I’ve had pneumonia so read it all quietly for the most part as not much energy.

I've just done my one month weigh in (less a day as I'm not around tomorrow) and have lost 8.4kg (18.5 llbs).

I had most of that loss the first week (8kg which I can't get my head round but know it is mostly water) then a tiny loss, increase over Christmas then another small loss.

Overall I'm happy but need to see a steady loss of at least 1-2kg a week to justify the cost.

The one area I have issues with is constantly feeling nauseous, especially in the mornings. It's resulted in me being unable to eat much for breakfast, when I really need to fuel up to get both my body and brain going, and then being really hungry later in the day and having a big dinner which doesn't sit well. Does anyone else struggle with this and/or have any advice please?

I go up to 5mg this week which I'm nervous about, but hoping it balances out the hunger a little better.

Have a great week.

stopringingme · 05/01/2025 14:31

I started on the 22nd of December and had my 3rd jab this morning.

I have lost over a stone, I have many more to go !

The first week, I did the injection in my stomach and had terrible heartburn a couple of days after then a bit of stomach pain.

The second week, I injected in my thigh and had no side effects, so I injected in my other thigh today, hoping it is the same.

I have not felt hungry and have reduced my food intake massively.

My biggest thing is that I have not eaten crisps at all - they were my biggest downfall, and I just don't feel the want for them.

I am waiting till next week to decide if I am going to go up to the next dosage as I want to see if the weight loss continues at a steady pace and if it does I may stay at 2.5 for one more month.

Good luck to everyone.
