Messed up this dose? Mounjaro

I was due my second dose of 5mg today, so far I've injected with no issues whatsoever.
Today I was distracted when injecting. I twisted the pen to 1 and realised I hasn't primed and panicked, so twisted back to 0 and then the 2nd small line on the pen and nothing came out. I then changed the needle, then primed and injected as normal however it seems like more of the dose has been used looking at the pen.

Could I have accidentally lost some of the liquid in the process of doing this? Looks like I've used more than 2 doses 🙈 Kicking myself, lesson learnt not to be distracted in future.

It does look like you've had more than 5mg this time.

I wouldn't worry. You'll be fine.

BTW I only prime the pen when I'm using it for the first dose, but not before the subsequent ones.

In the meantime, you now need some insulin syringes, to extract the next few doses. The pen is not where it should be anymore.

You just have to draw up 0.6ml MJ for each dose.

Have you got some?

Thank you for the reply, really appreciated.

Oh noooo, I felt nauseous after my first dose of 5mg so will be prepared for feeling even worse this week 🙈🙈
I don't have any syringes but can get some, or maybe I could do just under 5mg next time. I'll message my supplier and see what they suggest. Kicking myself.

I don't even know what primed means 😕 and I'm on my 1st 5mg but lost 1 stone so I must be doing something right

Honestly, don't worry!
If you've given yourself 7.5mg it won't be a problem, truly.

You may feel sick or whatever but it won't harm you.

Didn't you watch the video instructions before you had your first dose?

murraymcgill · 08/12/2024 18:51

@TheShellBeach nope I read the instructions

The instructions tell you to prime the pen.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/12/2024 18:58

Priming is useful to check your needle is working before injecting, I'd rather find out I have a faulty needle before trying to use it. After the first priming, I only do one click to prime and see a small drop at the end of the needle.

It is also to "fill" the needle to remove air and give you the correct dose, but air isn't a problem for subcutaneous injections and the difference in dose is negligible.

I agree with @TheShellBeach , it looks like you have taken a little too much, but not significantly so and hopefully you will not have any unpleasant side effects.

It is likely you have over clicked the pen, 3rd dose should be ok, but 4th and 5th perhaps need a hard twist or syringe. You might be a little short of liquid for 3 more doses, but could perhaps have a smaller dose Christmas week and/or New year week to reduce suppression very slightly during the festivities.

Arglefraster · 08/12/2024 18:59

@TheShellBeach may I ask why you only prime for the first dose?

I assumed the point of priming is to ensure there is no air being injected & therefore prime each time as the needles will have air in them.

@Youremylobster86 hope you don't feel bad this week, my understanding is there is nothing that can be done to reverse an overdose of Mj- you just have to let it work through your system.

Swissrollover · 08/12/2024 18:59

You will be able to get the next, 3rd dose as usual, but the pen will lock before you can turn it for the full 4th dose.

You can use an insulin syringe to extract the 4th dose. You won't have enough left for a full bonus 5th dose though, but it might be almost enough due to the extra priming liquid.

I guess you sprayed about half a dose into the air when you weren't paying attention.

murraymcgill · 08/12/2024 18:51

Looks like you missed a page then!

SilenceInside · 08/12/2024 19:00

Priming just means turning the pen two clicks and then pressing the end of the pen, until a tiny bit of liquid comes out. It's to check that the needle is attached correctly and not blocked or broken in some way.

It's in the instruction leaflet steps, so if you follow the paper instruction leaflet step by step they you will have primed the pen each time.

InItToLoseIt · 08/12/2024 19:04

I always prime before each dose because you can get a faulty needle on your 2nd, 3rd or 4th dose (which i have but luckily I caught it during priming). I'd rather know my needle or pen is faulty while priming than while injecting. I don't always use 2 clicks to prime though, sometimes I can already see the liquid coming out before I've clicked to prime, so I do 1 click instead when that happens.

OP you'll be fine. That has happened to me before when I tried to prime by doing 2 clicks and nothing came out. I changed needle and did another 2 clicks and it worked. It looked like it had gone slightly past the line but I still ended up with all the full doses of the pen + a little more.

Youremylobster86 · 08/12/2024 19:07

Thank you all, I really am kicking myself as was relying on the 5th dose to tie me through to end of the month and not like me not to concentrate🙈.

I'll order some syringes.

I done it first time with 2.5 not done it since I know next time menopause fog and Fibro fog doesn't help

Chloeclo · 27/05/2025 07:09

Hi, I’m on my last week of 5mg but intend to do the bonus dose as I have on my last two pens 2’5
my only worry is I’ve done one week at 3.75 one week at 4mg , 4.2 and this final week at 5.
does it mean my ‘ bonus dose’ will have more liquid in it making it higher than a 5mg dose? As I couldn’t handle that. Hence why I’ve done it so gradually as I’ve been very sick on my first 5mg pen after two weeks so went back down to 2’5 after two weeks off.
any help will be hugely appreciated !! Thanks in advance

WeAllHaveWings · 27/05/2025 08:22

@Chloeclo you will only have around (allowing 2 clicks for priming each dose) 44 clicks left in the pen before it locks. If you want 5mg for your 5th dose you will need to use a syringe.

Extract 0.6ml with a syringe for a full 5mg dose and then discard the remaining liquid.
