What am I doing wrong!?

Good morning,

I'm on week 5 of Mounjaro. I injected my first 5mg last night. My results so far have been;

Start - 212.9lb
Week 1 - 210.3lb
Week 2 - 208.3lb
Week 3 - 207.6lb
Week 4 - 204.4lb
And now week 5 at 206.3lb

Why have I gained? I'm definitely in a deficit, I drink around 3L water a day, which I always have and I am moving more. I am due on any day now, does that have an effect? Is it that I'm still having 1 sugar in my coffee twice a day?! Or a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend?

I know 2.5 is only loading and don't get me wrong, I am still happy with 6lb gone, but this is so bloody expensive and having a gain is so disheartening!

Although, the food noise is gone, which has changed my life.

Any replies welcome! Thank you.

Yes, quite normal to hold fluid before a period. Keep going.

Weight loss is not a straight line going down. It fluctuates up and down but the overall trend is down. Just keep going and don’t worry about it. You will have plateaus as well every 5-10%, again don’t worry about it, it’s all normal.

Elsother · 04/12/2024 07:05

Thank you both. I will definitely keep going, I think I was just expecting more, going by other people's experiences!

I gained weight in my first month! 😅

How are you doing now?

Down from a 16-18 to a 10-12, after 8 months. 44% body fat to 29%. Still have a ways to go as I’m short but it’s been great.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 04/12/2024 07:26

I had loads of fluctuations. I was in it for 3 months and lost 12kgs

One point I don't lose for a 3 week period so dont despair. Just keep going The body seems to reset

One thing I did find helped was to have a blow out day every now and then. And eat about 2000 cals.

1 it's enjoyable
2 it seems to kick start losing again.

Do you always weigh yourself at the same time of day?
I weigh a couple of pounds less in the morning than I do at night, and as others say my weight can fluctuate, especially before a period.
I find it helpful to weigh in pretty much every day so I can see a bit more of a pattern and a general direction of travel.

@Elsother - my sympathies, I’m in the same boat (but 10 weeks in and 7lb down - but it’s still a loss and the food noise has gone!). I’d join the slow losers club thread. I’ve found it to be more supportive than the monthly threads. Not that there’s anything wrong with those but when people are reporting big losses it can be disheartening. The continuing Mounjaro thread is also good support as there are people on there who’ve been on MJ for a long time as well as newer starters. Keep going!

Thank you for the replies!

I do weigh at the same time in the same spot. I have however just ordered some new scales as I've had these ones a very long time!

I had been weighing daily and that has just depressed me this last week not seeing any movement lol.

But as I say, I am due on and feeling extremely bloated.

It doesn't help that it's my birthday weekend and we're going away... Maybe the 5mg will kick in by then and I'll be able to enjoy but not over indulge!

You are very early on in the process. A lot of people don't even lose in the first few weeks. 6lbs is a good loss.

Mysticmaiden2024 · 05/12/2024 05:15

You can count calories, work out your maintenance calories and subtract 500 per day. If you log it in my fitness pal app, it helps to see your calories and also protein intake. Aim for higher protein 0.8 of body weight and less carbs. I've never put on weight since on mounjaro 8 weeks ago and lost almost a stone and I'm currently 78kg, so have less to lose, so it should be more difficult. My friend in similar time has lost maybe 5lbs, but she doesn't calorie count and eats lots of carbs!

coolcahuna · 05/12/2024 06:08

Slow and steady here. Month 3, 3rd pen and I've lost a stone. 10lb more to go, aim by Feb.
I'm really pleased with it.
Food noise gone, sensible but normal food choices being made.
