Starting mounjaro today - 4 stone to lose

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 20:04

I'm starting mounjaro today - and starting a thread to mark my own progress and in case anyone wants to join me.

I am 110 kg (just over 17st), which is the heaviest I've ever been, and I'm devastated to be in this position.
I'm aiming to go down to 85kg (just over 13 st), so there's a long way to go!

I'm in this situation for a combination of reasons: menopause, time restrictions, grief, health issues, overwhelm. I decided on the injections not as an easy/quick solution, but as a way to really kick-start the loss and boost me into a healthier state. I've been trying to get myself healthier for a long time with no success, if anything, it's got worse.

My first injection today - I'm on 2.5mg for four weeks and will take it from there.

I’d love to join :) I started three weeks ago at 14st 11 and now I’m 14st 4. It’s been tough at parts, mainly due to side effects such as dry mouth and terrible racing heart in the evenings. I haven’t lost as much as I thought but half a stone in 3 weeks isn’t bad either. I’ve noticed that my appetite tends to return full force around 2 days before jab day.

i weigh on a Monday so can update then. I think I’m due my 🩸 which might skew this weeks scales slightly.

Bigredcombine · 29/11/2024 10:02

Good luck! I've just finished MJ. Down from 95kg in May to 75kg. Best investment I've made. The hunger is creeping back in BUT maintaining is much easier than dieting and I was 95kg consistently for the years. Also - I now have MJ up my sleeve so if I need to use it again, I will.
My advice is:

  • be careful about who you tell. I was really open to anyone but the reactions from some people was odd. Mostly jealous or fatphobic people who think overweight people should suffer.
  • count your calories!
  • eat plenty of protein
  • tiredness was a major side effect for me. Get plenty of rest.

All the best and well done for taking this first step to the new you!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2024 10:27

Good luck @paranoiaofpufflings

I started aug. Was just over 17s - I've lost 3.5 and now high ends of 13 !!!

13 - I can't believe it

Been slow and steady. Lb here. Sometimes 2/3. Then 3w of sts. That was hard.

It's not a magical cure. You do need to put hard work in as well

You will get there. I still have another 2.5s to go ideally to get my bmi to Healthy

Very excited and blooody Amazed to say that I have moved on the bmi chart

I was super obese (tho still say I wasn't super lol) and 2nd pink/purple shade but I am now overweight and in yellow !!!!

I will make it into green. And healthy

As will you

I do advise joining a monthly chat and as end of nov I would start a dec one as you will be a month behind the others if that makes sense

Our aug chat is fun and we all encourage each other which is nice and can ask stuff

Buying pens I wouldn't stash as you don't know what you want

I'm a rare breed and didn't have suppression till 10

Others on our thread are still under 5 and going slowly as feel awful on higher doses

They advise to go up each month

I'm with med express can't fault them and they price match if you find cheaper

Good luck

Mid afternoon of my day 2 and I haven't felt hungry at all. No hunger, no cravings, nothing. All I've had today is half a banana, a coffee and some water, and I've gone about my day as usual, and yet I feel fine. It's the strangest feeling, I'm always hungry and rarely go a few hours without craving something. I'm going to eat something small at dinner time to make sure I get the nutrients, but at this rate I can see how this will work quickly.

I started in June at 13st7 and I'm now 10st5, loss of 3st2 (20kgs). I'm only short and that's 23% of my body weight. I've not had any side effects and I've stepped slowly through the doses, not increasing everytime. Going to have one more full pen then look at lowering/maintenance.

You can do it!!

MummyNurseWifi · 29/11/2024 15:24

I started 5th September at 15st 13
I'm now 12st 11.
I have about 3st to goal.

Thought it was time to post an update...
I started at the end of November at 110kg (just over 17 stone), aiming to get down to 85kg (just over 13 stone).

I had four weeks on 2.5mg. This month was great! I had almost no appetite at all so I had no interest in food or cravings, I ate the bare minimum and made sure what I did eat was what I needed for the essentials. I lost almost a stone in that month!

Then I had four weeks on 5mg. Still no real cravings for food, but a very slight increase in appetite. Generally, I was eating more in this month, and it also covered the Christmas week, which I really struggled with - not because I was craving anything, but the social pressure to eat. I lost half a stone overall in that month, which I was disappointed with.

Last week I had my first injection on 7.5mg. I plan to take each increase for the standard four weeks until I get up to the maximum dose.

In terms of side effects, in the days after I inject I have no interest or cravings for anything, barely any appetite, so I eat barely anything. This gradually comes back over the week, so by the night before the next injection I eat a normal amount. I have lost all interest in anything sweet (which I'm so pleased about - that was always my main craving). When I do eat I feel slightly sick for a while afterwards. But luckily no other side effects.

So far, if I'm honest, I'm a bit disappointed with the amount of weight lost. Just under a stone and a half over two months is less than I'd hoped for. I have lost size in some places - a couple of centimetres off most parts of my body, a bit more off my horrible overhanging belly and upper thighs (target areas!).

I do need to remember to drink more water, I always struggle with that. All in all, not as much progress as I'd hoped for, but I'm still happy with it so far.

ohmyohmy123 · 27/01/2025 20:56

I started on 27.11 at 18.1 stone. So far I've lost 1stone 10lb. I'm over the moon with that. I am staying on 5mg for now as I am happy with it - I want to make sure I can still eat nutritious food because I want to be healthy too.

I drink about 3.5litres of water so if you can try to get more in it will really help.

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/01/2025 10:52

@ohmyohmy123 That's brilliant, well done! I am only drinking a fraction of the water you are having. It's something I've always struggled with! Going off to pour a glass now...

MummyNurseWifi · 28/01/2025 11:12

@paranoiaofpufflings you need to drink as much water/squash as possible and if you aren't happy with your loses, track your calories.

shrinkingthiswinter · 28/01/2025 13:41

1.5 stone is over 9 kilos, right? So over 9 weeks that’s more than a kilo a week, which is pretty fast weight loss!!

I’ve been losing just over a kilo a week for 8 weeks and am delighted with my progress. It means have lost 10kg between hair cuts! Saw my hairdresser today and booked my next one for 8 weeks’ time, by when I hope to be down another 10. And then next appointment at end of May, by when I could be down 30 kg in total, which would be my absolute lowest goal. Seems like wizardry.

Are you doing some exercise? I think that’s lifting my mood. The weight loss is amazing but feeling stronger really helps.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/01/2025 15:40

So just under 21lbs in 8w - doesn’t sound bad to me - 2.5lbs a week roughly

it’s not a magic cure. You still need to eat carefully so track calories and drink drink drink water /juice

some exercise. I don’t as have issues with ankle knee and hips

Finallydoingit24 · 28/01/2025 17:27

That’s a great rate of loss. People losing four stone in two months risk gallstones and loose skin. The provider themselves do not recommend fast weight loss. I got mine from Simple Online Pharmacy and they recommended no more than 5% of total body weight in 6 months which is very conservative. Well done and you’re halfway to your goal.

That’s not just conservative that’s ludicrous. That’s 12 pounds in six months on a 17 stone person, which is less than half a pound a week.

Yeah I know but that’s what they said - I’ve attached a screenshot of the email. I’m aiming for more.

I add very diluted calorie/sugar free cordial OP - I can't drink water on its own and adding a bit of squash makes it much easier to reach your daily quota.

GutsyFinch · 28/01/2025 18:43

I started on 16 November and have lost 20lbs which is 1.9 per week average. I have a marked drinks bottle (hourly) which reminds me to keep drinking (weak squash). I think this has really helped. Not too many side effects 🤞it stays that way currently on week 2 of 5mg - I stayed on 2.5mg for 2 pens. Well done to you all for your losses x

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/01/2025 22:47

Reading these comments and I'm questioning why I was disappointed with my results so far, because as someone helpfully pointed out, I am almost half way to my end goal. Feel a bit better about it now, thanks.
I think the disappointment comes really from that I don't look any different. When I look in the mirror I look exactly the same, and no one else has noticed any change. I'm sure it will come.

Have invested in some squash to try to get more fluid in! I've been bad at drinking enough for my whole life.

Calories is not a problem, if anything I'm not getting enough now as I have so little appetite. Exercise is also fine. All of my weight gain came at once because of a health problem so food and exercise was never the problem for me.

daffodilandtulip · 29/01/2025 08:49

@paranoiaofpufflings I started in June and have lost 3st 9lbs. Everyone's different and loss is loss. Keep going!

Queenofthejabs · 29/01/2025 09:13

Op you pee out fat. If you keep that in mind it might help incentivise you to get your water in.

Lola3034 · 29/01/2025 09:14

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 22:11

Thanks for the words everyone. I will update as I go along.
It's only day 1 but no immediate side effects. I've deliberately chosen this week to start because I'm going into the part of my menstrual cycle when I feel crapest, so I thought if I start off feeling my worst anyway I can only feel better.
Something I'm really hoping will improve is my stomach size - it's so big and hangs down in a big flab. I'm sure it puts pressure on my bladder, gives me back ache, and when I've tried to exercise it's so uncomfortable.

Loosing some weight helped with pressure on my bladder massively. I no longer have to get up at night to pee and certainly can hold more in for longer 🙃
