Starting mounjaro today - 4 stone to lose

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 20:04

I'm starting mounjaro today - and starting a thread to mark my own progress and in case anyone wants to join me.

I am 110 kg (just over 17st), which is the heaviest I've ever been, and I'm devastated to be in this position.
I'm aiming to go down to 85kg (just over 13 st), so there's a long way to go!

I'm in this situation for a combination of reasons: menopause, time restrictions, grief, health issues, overwhelm. I decided on the injections not as an easy/quick solution, but as a way to really kick-start the loss and boost me into a healthier state. I've been trying to get myself healthier for a long time with no success, if anything, it's got worse.

My first injection today - I'm on 2.5mg for four weeks and will take it from there.

Forgot to add: my BMI is 39.1.

Good luck.
It's the best thing I've done for myself.
Started at 18st 6lbs in May and I'm now 13st 10lbs.

Can't quite believe this is real sometimes!

Wiseowltaylor · 28/11/2024 20:47

Hi
I started mine on Sunday and so far I have no side effects. I'm definitely getting appetite suppressant so I am choosing more healthier options when it come to eating. Good luck x

Doggymummar · 28/11/2024 20:49

I was 18 stone 2 when I started, now 14 stone. Good luck

Bellyblueboy · 28/11/2024 21:06

I just took my tenth shot. i have lost 1st 9lbs - half way to my target.

I have no regrets. It has been easier than I thought. A few side effects but nothing that can’t be managed. Drink lots of water, take fibre supplements and eat as much protein as you can.

Good luck. Lots of support on here.

I did my first jab on 1st August and I'm 16.5kg down now (just over 2.5 stone.) I'm now just a healthy BMI where I was obese when I started.

I've not really had any side effects - a little bit of heartburn for the first couple of weeks and a little bit of constipation - resolved by drinking prune juice. I've increased my dosage slowly and used the bonus dose in each pen, I'm now on 7.5mg and have comfortable appetite suppression in that I feel hungry but am satisfied on small portions.

It is life changing - not just the weight loss, but the loss of food noise, the ability to feel full and want to stop eating. It's like witchcraft!!

Keep us posted on how you're doing @paranoiaofpufflings - wishing you lots of luck!

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 22:11

Thanks for the words everyone. I will update as I go along.
It's only day 1 but no immediate side effects. I've deliberately chosen this week to start because I'm going into the part of my menstrual cycle when I feel crapest, so I thought if I start off feeling my worst anyway I can only feel better.
Something I'm really hoping will improve is my stomach size - it's so big and hangs down in a big flab. I'm sure it puts pressure on my bladder, gives me back ache, and when I've tried to exercise it's so uncomfortable.

@Bellyblueboy What app is that, where you've made the graph?

OP posts:
Bellyblueboy · 28/11/2024 22:21

It’s called Shotsy. I got it free on the App Store. I love it - lets you log shots and gives a countdown to when the next one is due.

SevernWonders · 28/11/2024 22:32

Not dissimilar stats to you - started last day of May at 17.13, now at 13.6. It has been a wonder drug for me - no food cravings, great suppression, revolutionised my eating habits. Good luck and well done for taking the first step to a healthy new life.

JunoRoma · 28/11/2024 22:33

@paranoiaofpufflings I started Mounjaro a couple of weeks ago, from a similar weight (107kg) and have a similar amount to lose.

Today I discovered that I must have accidentally underdosed for the first two injections, as the pen was still nearly full (yes, I had read the instructions). I've now managed to work out how to use the pen correctly and gave myself the first proper 2.5mg dose today.

In those two weeks of underdosing I've lost 4kg (I had also made positive changes in terms of diet and activity levels) and I will be counting that loss 😂 so I'm now on W3 even though I only had the first 2.5mg dose today.

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 22:38

@JunoRoma Do you know what you were doing wrong with the first two?

OP posts:
paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 22:39

I am feeling really encouraged by all of your amazing results. Well done all of you and thanks for the boost.

Yes, instead of pushing the end directly down, I had been dialling (twisting) it back down, in a reverse of the action used to dial it up to the '1'.

Rednosedeer · 28/11/2024 22:55

So many great losses well done everyone.

@paranoiaofpufflings was the start process easy and who did you go with?

I'm buying next week.

Do they need pictures of me?

Thank you.

PinkArt · 28/11/2024 23:03

If you want to compare progress, weird symptoms, milestones etc with others on the same boat, you'd be very welcome in the November starters thread @paranoiaofpufflings

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 23:04

Deciding to start was difficult and I thought about it and researched it probably for a few months.

But actually starting the process way super easy! I've gone for Lloyds Online Pharmacy.
I filled in the consultation form on their website on Tuesday. Got a reply on Wednesday morning requesting video evidence - one video of my photo ID next to my face, another video showing my body in full length mirror then standing on scales to show my weight. You film the videos from the website.
Got approved by end of Wednesday and received my four injections by lunchtime today.
There are paper instructions in the box but I found the video instructions on the website better to follow.
Really quick and efficient process.

I only bought four injections to cover a month but I wonder if next time I can buy a larger amount - you can store them in the fridge.

I started yesterday and am 18.1. Feeling positive about it and determined!!

paranoiaofpufflings · 28/11/2024 23:10

@PinkArt I did look at the thread but it looked so busy I was a bit overwhelmed.

OP posts:
Snozzlemaid · 28/11/2024 23:25

As it's almost December I would imagine there will be a December starters thread soon.
Or you could start one, maybe?
It's really helpful to chat to others at the same stage as you in your MJ journey.

Please join - you could always lurk! Some days are chattier but it can be a really helpful sounding board for those 'wait is anyone else finding it's making them cold?!' kind of questions.

Good luck @ohmyohmy123!

OP posts:
paranoiaofpufflings · 29/11/2024 09:43

@10storeylovesong Yes I think I just worded it wrong but I have one pen with all doses inside, with four needles so that I can inject four times. Definitely the right stuff 👍🏻

I didn't expect it to have an effect so dramatically quickly (or is it a placebo effect?). Usually I would eat dinner around 7.30, be craving something sweet by 9pm and be absolutely starving at bedtime, and then also wake up starving.
Last night just had dinner as usual and didn't have any craving or hunger for the rest of the night. Woke up this morning not at all hungry. Have had a coffee and half a banana.
Feel quite emotional that this might actually work!
