Well, it’s here. Picked up first 2.5 dose this morning. Trying to get in the “zone”
and done all the searching, googling, pros and cons stuff too. Just bunged box in the fridge, out of sight, for now as brain in overload 😬
do I or don’t I?
planning first injection tomorrow, is there a best time of day…..before, after a meal….morning….nighttime…..

Also worried about side effects, I still work full time…I’m made of pretty stern stuff so hope to be able to cope, but how do others manage any vomiting etc, or other bodily effects whilst in the office???.
So many questions, do I just go for it….don’t know til you try.

I'm 9 days ahead of you. The injection was easier than I was expecting, and the side effects have been milder. The worst one so far has been constipation, but I upped the fibre and it has improved.

Some cautionary advice before you do the injection (based on hearing other people's experiences) is to consider what you eat in the hours before the injection: avoid fried / fatty foods, foods high in sugar etc. Mounjaro slows down gastric emptying, so your most recent meal can sit in your stomach for longer than you expect. In some people, some foods then start fermenting, releasing more gas than is comfortable. In extreme cases, this can lead to sulfurous burps then vomiting and diarrhoea as the body decides it would be best to just eject everything. This hasn't happened to me yet, but it doesn't sound nice.

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 23/11/2024 14:16

Most people only get mild side effects on the starter dose, but some do and I would suggest starting today instead of leaving it until the day before a work day incase you are someone who does get bad side effects early on so at least you know what you are dealing with if you do.

Caffeineneedednow · 23/11/2024 14:42

I'm 6 weeks in and the only real side effect I have had is some constipation that some prunes cleared up. Not everyone get side effects but I would inject today instead of tomorrow if you have work on Monday as it gives your system a fill day and 2 night to overcome any potential side effects you may get.

IHateMozzies · 23/11/2024 14:46

Apart from the odd sore tummy and tiredness, I’ve been fine. Just do it!

@ThreeBootsOneGlove I really like how you have explained this. I have been taking MJ since mid August and neatly 3 stone lost. I have had minimal issues but do not eat fatty foods and I am veggie. What I have eaten pre jab is not a problem, but I have had the burping twice and because of what you described I just realised that it was because I ate a bigger portion than I normally would both times. Thanks I hadn’t thought of it before.😘

I had mine on the fridge for 2 weeks before I finally took the plunge so don't worry!

I haven't had the extreme side effects that some have had. The only advice I would give is:

  • consider the day you take your first dose especially around potential side effects and a drop off in appetite suppression. I took my first dose on a Wednesday as I know that weekends are my downfall and I wanted to ensure suppression was good. I'm not sure if there is standard timeframe for side effects however you could try and time it around the possibility of nausea etc to ensure there's a high chance they fall in the weekend.
  • remember you can move the dose so it fits in better. For me this always involves a longer gap 1-2 days rather than shorter.
  • consider how this is going to fit in for Christmas which is 4.5 weeks away. Are you going to just continue dosing as normal or relax it a bit? Have you read up on the golden/extra dose?
  • with Christmas coming you may need to order a second pen sooner rather than later due to potential delivery delays.
Jenasaurus · 23/11/2024 16:45

In am on week 5 and just moved up to 5. On 2.5 I didn’t have any side effects except losing 12 pounds but I took the 5 dose yesterday and had a bit of an upset stomach but not bad or too painful. I woke today feeling OK and hVe to remind myself to eat as the food suppression seems a lot higher on this dose. I have a question on injection site. My arms and legs are really thin but my stomach is very fat. (Think potato with cocktail sticks for limbs). Anyway I inject in my arm or thigh and due to no fat it’s a push to get it in. I’m wary of injecting into my stomach though. But wonder if injection site can make side effects worse. Just a thought

Thanks for the heads up on Christmas deliveries. I hadn’t thought about that x

I’m not on the injections - I want to be but they are too expensive and I’m not allowed as I had an eating disorder in my teens.

However, if to use them without side effects you need to cut out fatty food, fried foods and up your fibre then what is the actual benefit of taking them? If you do that you lose weight with or without injections.

If I had any kind of self-control over what I eat I wouldn’t be obese. That’s not true, I can have self control but it’s all or nothing if I allow myself to diet I allow my eating disorder back into my life.

1clavdivs · 23/11/2024 16:58

@SnappyOwl it's not the injections that make people lose weight as such, it's the fact that they help them stick to rules like not having too much fatty foods, increasing fibre and protein etc. I've tried multiple times to eat that way before but failed. The jabs help me stick to that way of eating.

Personally I've had barely any side effects. The few days after I go up a dose I tend to feel nauseous if I eat too much, and I get very sleepy. That goes away though. No other side effects for me.

Waitfortheguinness · 23/11/2024 18:04

Thanks all, lots to think about….especially the timing of doses, I’ll have to think things through…..
when someone mentioned having a gap…do you mean you might do the doses more than 7 days apart? Is this just a one off time, or continuously….and what do you achieve by that…..does it slowdown suppression/ side effects?

i keep seeing to limit fatty foods, does this include yoghurt/ dairy…I quite often have this for a works breakfast. I don’t have much sugar or fried foods anyways.

and what is the golden dose….will it turn me into a supermodel or something 😂😂

I did my first jab on Wednesday night so I'm only on day 3 and haven't had a single bad side effect yet! Only positives so far

Sofa1000 · 23/11/2024 18:17

Wouldn’t worry about effects at work. I work full time in a busy role and don’t even think about it when I’m working. Two others on my office are on the jabs and can’t say it’s affected them either. Except we’re all a bit less fat now.

"Golden" is a twee term creeping in, it is more generally referred to as the bonus/5th dose and the medication left in the pen after 4 doses that you can't access normally, but there are ways.

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 23/11/2024 18:57

Pen after each dose and you can see liquid remaining after 4 which is usually enough for a 5th dose if you can get into it. There are two methods, look them up after a couple of weeks when you have used your pen a couple of times and are more confident with what you are doing - it might need pliers or syringes to get to it.

I am fine on dairy, side effects can be individual so you need to wait and see how it impacts you.

Damn…..thought the golden dose was a bit like a cheat code for a pc game….only available if you say the magic word 3 times whilst standing on your head…………then find that you instantly turn into a goddess with magical powers!!
dream on, eh?

I mentioned the gap. I have pushed it out by 1-2 days a couple of times. I have never done less than 7 days. I believe the recommended min gap is 4 days? So if I was due to take a dose Christmas Eve or Day I would push it back until 27th. I do this because suppression and side effects are higher earlier and I don't want to visit friends or have an event and not be able eat and have a drink. My suppression isn't as strong as reported by some users on here so this works for me. I don't then shorten the next dose I return to 7 days.

Yes the 'golden dose' very twee term but the cost of these pens makes it worth trying to get that dose out - it is evidently slightly more than the standard pen dose (but I haven't measured it as I 'break the pen and use normal pen needles).
