Anyone on Mounjaro had their periods stop or change?

Just praying it's the weight loss injections and not a condom that's potentially failed, for me having a missed period.

I had missed periods in first and second month. I have pcos & was quite disappointed when they returned in month 3 🤣

Yes I have been on it 8 weeks and missed two periods. Had a negative pregnancy test this week (phew!)

I am on HRT so would expect periods still due to that. I expect to only be on for 2 or 3 more injections so will worry about periods when I have finished!

Eight weeks in and periods are much lighter

AverageFruit · 22/11/2024 23:03

My period started this morning, happy I'm not pregnant - thanks for the responses.

If you are suddenly eating less calories that may effect your periods regardless of whether you are on the weight loss injections or not. And as it suppresses appetite you probably have dropped calories.

apart from period problems, how do you rate this drug ? are side effects terrible ?

TheChosenTwo · 23/11/2024 00:40

I’ve got PCOS and have probably one or two periods a year. I’ve got no idea if this will change, apparently it can have a positive effect on your periods if you lose weight which has always been an issue for me in the past. I’m only one month in and have had the familiar ovarian cramps which hurt to fuck but in typical style I get it for about 2 weeks and it disappears with no period in sight!

I’ve had no side effects @lollypop42 - nothing different to normal I’m just not hungry 24/7 and I haven’t eaten a snack or even a nibble of chocolate in 4 weeks.

I've not had a period for ten years due to the implant and I randomly had one this week. Mounjaro is known to potentially make the pill less effective, but it isn't meant to impact anything else so I was very surprised.

IsItSomethingIAte · 23/11/2024 09:20

Mounjaro affects hormones and some medication, so it sort of makes sense that it would affect some women's cycle. Mine started after 2 weeks of being on Mounjaro - a few years of not having periods due to being on the pill but it's stopped now and I've gone back to not having it again (touch wood). I'd read about the period thing before starting though so I wasn't surprised when mine did. I was even expecting it to.

I've seen some people mention it's started after years of no period, including menopause. I haven't followed up with them to see if it's stopped. Some have said the opposite and theirs stopped (Also didn't check if it's restarted but someone did say hers have).

I'm 11 weeks in, 22lbs down.

I'm 46 on hrt and after not having a period for 3/4 months, have had a period every other week since staring. Now the one I'm having is entering day 9. I do have PCOS, but I've not really experienced too many issues from it - bit hairy in places, hideous acne 15 yrs ago...

I have spoken to the gp who had more opinions about me taking this drug than helping me. Seeing as I was referred to level 3 weight management, taking weight loss injections are a prescribed solution, they need to stop with their personal opinion! I have a smear booked for December, and I have requested an appointment at the menopause clinic.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't want to stop the mounjaro... it's working!

FlappingMadly · 25/11/2024 11:05

I’m on peri menopause and my periods had become spaced out, lighter and longer. But now they’re back to being regular. What’s that all about? I’m 53.

Darlinghag · 25/11/2024 11:40

Mine changed. Mine were mostly consistent in timing already but my symptoms have sharpened.

I can now pinpoint ovulation, and premenstrual symptoms easily, but things are more painful, and my period is now a little longer. Used to be 5 days, with two being super light, now they are 6 days and heavy for most of it!

Orangesandlemons77 · 06/01/2025 13:32

Mine are heavier but I am also on HRT so understand it is called a 'withdrawal bleed'

ThatsNotMyTeen · 06/01/2025 13:34

Mine have completely stopped but I’m 51 so I expect just menopause
