Hi all,

I have been on mounjaro now for just over 12 weeks and I have lost 2 stone. I have been lucky with side effects, so far one day of constipation and I do feel the cold more.

I have never had strong appetite suppression that stops me eating, I am typically hungry for my meals but it has removed the snacking and allowed me to make healthy choices. However I am on day 5 of my first 7.5mg injection and for the last couple of days my urge to snack is back with vengeance. I'm hoping it is just a passing blip, has anyone else had this ?

Your description of effects - stopped snacking, able to make healthy choices and hungry for meals, etc - matches my experience. I am in my 12th week so sounds like we've been on it for similar amount of time and have lost a similar amount!

I am still on a fairly low dose though and haven't gone up for a while. I've been lucky that a low dose seems to be working for me. I have had times where I felt extra hungry and that suppression was waning though - and I chose not to go up and see how it went. I actually found the following week was better.

I now ask myself the question at the end of the day "do I increase my dose next time" and I keep a record of my 'go up/down/stay the same' decisions. Come dose day, I'll review. Two weeks of 3-4 days of 'go up' and I'll increase my dose.

This is pretty hesitant of me and is mostly driven by my decision to try and be on as low a dose as I can while still managing hunger and losing weight! So for sure it won't work that way for everyone.

As it's your first week on 7.5 you'll still be increasing the amount of mounjaro in your body, so next week you'll have more. Hopefully your hunger will settle back down.

There is a weird thing where some people just don't do well on a particular dose. Makes no sense, but then every body is different. And there's always the chance there are duff pens about - I remember a few people who got warm pens in the post especially when it was hotter saying they just didn't work as well.

Sorry I've waffled a lot there. TL;DR yes I had that, it was a passing blip, I'm still on the same dose and fine.

Thanks @HippoPortlyMouse I'm hoping it's a blip too! I wasn't in to take delivery of my 7.5 pen, it was my partner and although I asked him if it was still cold when he unpacked it , he wasn't paying attention! So who knows.
I stayed on 5mg for two pens and was hoping to do the same, if not longer on 7.5 pen as I have a long way to go, I don't want to reach the top dose too quickly.

I also need to drink more water, no matter how often I remind myself I just don't get enough in, I find it boring and I hate going to the toilet so often!

I wouldn't worry about the temperature of the pen when it arrived - it can be kept un-refrigerated for 21 days (apparently!)

SilenceInside · 19/11/2024 14:32

30 days out of the fridge according to the leaflet in the box that comes with the injection pen, assuming it's always under 30 degrees C which is not an issue in the UK in winter. Or most of the year!

happygertie · 19/11/2024 14:38

Thanks I'm not to worried. My other orders have always arrived cold, the only reason I'm keen for them to be cold is because I tend to order 3 weeks ahead as I work shifts and it's a struggle to be in for deliveries and I have an irrational fear of running out. So by the time I have finished a pen I've had it 7 weeks x

Hi @happygertie . Sorry to jump on an old thread but your experience is the very same as mine except I'm on week 2 of 7.5 now and I'm hungry! Wondering how you got on after?
My experience is so similar to you, I'm down 2 stone in 3 months. Have had good suppression so far never to the point that I can't eat my meals but portions are so much smaller and snacking so much better. I still have 6 stone to go though and so disappointed to have urges and cravings back again despite going up a dose!
Would be great to hear how you got on and hopefully it all got back on track!

happygertie · 15/01/2025 19:53

@Gr3atEscape hi, yeah it didn't last long, I think it was around the time that I was due on. My periods are super irregular due to PCOS however, have now become more frequent and the snack urge seems to be as I'm due on.

I am still on 7.5mg and I'm ok on it, I don't want too strong a suppression as ultimately I would like to come of the meds one day and want to be able to manage any cravings / food noise

Week 10 for me on 7.5 could eat plenty just trying hard not to I had better suppression on 2.5 I have another 7.5 pen I start on Friday ill try another week if not ill do a 10mg from my 7.5 pen 2 weeks ago I put on 8lbs nothing ate different decided to buy new scales and start from there so so far down 2 stone

Gr3atEscape · 15/01/2025 20:01

Thanks both. So strange how this one isn't hitting the way either of the previous doses did. I already have another pen after this as I am ahead on my orders and assumed I would be on it for at least 2 months. Will see how it goes!

happygertie · 15/01/2025 20:03

@Gr3atEscape I also think my snacks urges coincided with my very active days when I do a big workout and a big walk, some days I can burn 900 additional active calories, but on those days I do eat more to compensate. In run up to and over Christmas I was still averaging 2lb loss each week, its weigh in day tomorrow and I'm hoping for a bit more as I have been extra active and eaten well.

Good to know. Too much activity is definitely not my issue at the moment! Your point on my cycle could be a thing though. My worry is that whilst I stayed on Mounjaro over Christmas, I did eat more snack type foods and chocolate etc. Things I haven't had much of at all since I started. Worried I have awoken the beast and now it can't be silenced again!

happygertie · 15/01/2025 22:01

@Gr3atEscape I definitely allowed myself more snacks and treats over Christmas and it was hard to get out of the habit early January. It took a week or so, to get to my healthy eating. The crap weather doesn't help either.

I swear things are so funny. As soon as you talk about them, they change! Have woken up today with very strong suppression similar to what I have had when I have increased doses before. Strange that it didn't happen the first week but pleased it has kicked in now and hopefully is a little less next week.
