Best protein shakes

I’ve just started and I’m doing Mounjaro with Weight watchers (on their GLP-1 plan). The only way I can get close to the protein goal is using protein shakes and bars.

This is a whole new world for me and so far I’ve grabbed ufit off the shelf, and it is palatable, but probably cheaper to buy protein powders and add to smoothies etc.

Anyone got ones they recommend/hate? They aren’t cheap so I don’t want to waste money finding the one for me!

I use MyVegan clear protein from MyProtein to, as you say, fill in the gaps I can't otherwise manage in my protein intake.

It is a clear drink a bit like squash. I find the thicker shakes too filling and they stop me being able to eat that more important whole protein.

I like the Strawberry one and mix my marine collagen power in the same drink (can't taste it) and have it in the evening (it now replaces my 🍷 habit) with 500ml of water and lots of ice to make it nicely chilled taking it up to 600-650ml which helps with my daily water intake.

They do a mixed sample pack to try different flavours. I am not Vegan, but prefer the taste of the clear vegan powder instead of the clear whey ones.

I use Huel Black (35g protein) or Purition

Thank you, I might give these a go. I’ve never been a shake fan, so clear drinks sound way easier!!

I like grenade. Decent protein and low ish carbs/sugar. Can’t seem to get them right now though. Manufacturers say they have not been discontinued so there is hope they’ll be available again soon. 😔

I’m sure I saw them in Boots a couple of weeks ago…..haven’t ever tried them! Thank you!

@Caplin they were a godsend when I didn’t fancy eating. Fudge Brownie and Salted Caramel are my favourites.

I've just bought my protein clear protein in vimto flavour as I don't like milkshakes. It tastes just like vimto so i will be tempted to try there other flavours

IndigoHexagon · 17/11/2024 16:35

Lidl do a protein shake which is around 240 cals per bottle and has 35g protein - four flavours (strawberry/chocolate/banana/vanilla). They do have a higher sugar content than other brands so I only use them occasionally but they’re the highest cal/protein I’ve found.

they also do a nice cold latte which is 125 cals and 19g protein which is tasty.

These ones are good from Tesco and Holland and Barret (I think). I tried the Huel one and couldn't stomach it, it was very gritty. These YFood ones are just like drinking a thickish flavoured milk.

Assuming you’re OK with whey, I have the MyProtein clear mojito, and Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Powder in ‘double rich chocolate’. I have never liked milkshakes but I use the chocolate powder to make a peppermint mocha with cold brew coffee and a drop of peppermint oil.

teenmaw · 17/11/2024 18:44

I got a little selection of the clear my protein ones and they were surprisingly fab. Not the vegan ones, she gave me them because she is vegan. I remember a mango, a strawberry and lime and a watermelon one, all tasty!

RoundandSad · 17/11/2024 19:10

Not on injections but trying a protein target

poster said they mix with water - what does a plain one taste of? I really want to up my protein as my sister has lost lots but I can't eat the amount of protein she does. It's whey a cause of stomach upset. She won't go near it. I've never tried

I second Huel black, but it isn’t the cheap option to be fair; I’ve not found a powder anywhere as palatable. And I’ve tried a few.

Bluenose1966 · 17/01/2025 11:12

I use Nxt beef protein, which sounds disgusting but is just a fruity drink with 27g protein per serving. Got mine from Amazon.
Clean, crisp and refreshing fruit flavours make this Beef Isolate Protein taste more like a juice than heavy milky protein shakes , mixes easily in water or juice for a perfect post workout protein shake PLEASE NOTE-This is not your typical foamy and bad tasting beef protein powder

happygertie · 17/01/2025 11:20

I love Will Powder protein powder. Also for protein bars the peanut butter Fulfil bars are nice. I love Barebells protein bars but are spenny to order so I wait for a deal.
