First pen arrives today but stressful week ahead - when to start?

I'm expecting my first Mounjaro pen to arrive today, but the next two weeks are quite stressful for one reason or another. If I do the first dose tonight how likely is it that I will still be expecting any side effects by Wednesday (which is the particularly stressful bit of my week)?

If I were you I would wait a week for a week for the things to settle down. Last thing you need is additional stress of potential side effects. Weight loss can wait a week 🙂.

MsRumpole · 16/11/2024 10:25

I think I know that's the sensible thing to do. How long will the Mounjaro keep in the fridge? I know it keeps for 3 weeks or something at room temp.

Unused pens should be kept in the fridge and they last till their expiry date (on the box and pen). It should be sometime next year for your pen.

Used pens can be kept in the fridge or outside the fridge under 30°c and last 30 days from first use before being discarded.

I would just start. Hydrate well and have some good food ready. You’ve got this.

IMustBeInvisible · 16/11/2024 10:44

To answer your OP, I'd wait and get the sttessful week done, then start. You've waited this long, another week wouldn't hurt especially as you don't know how your body would react. No one can tell what will happen. You can start after Wednesday or wait a week to start.

Mysticmaiden2024 · 16/11/2024 11:59

Mounjaro has really affected sleep and caused anxiety, so if you can wait for a week or until end of the week, do that. It took me around 3 days to kick in fully so could take until tuesday/wednesday for any symptoms to show. I was also exhausted and very cold and had headaches. If you want to start it have lots of water, electrolytes and high intake of protein as this all helped ease symptoms. Good luck 😊

MsRumpole · 16/11/2024 12:19

Really tempted to go with @FlappingMadly - I'm just so impatient to get started - but have decided to wait two weeks which means I am essentially off for Christmas and gives me a chance to weather any side effects. Thanks all. I'm really excited about this (also slightly anxious!).

If you are starting on 2,5 it's not likely you will have side affects unless you are unusually sensitive. When it arrives, read the side effects bit and you will see what the chances are. I'm on 7.5 now and haven't had a side effect yet, I'm assuming MJ? On OZ I was sick from day one. Edited as I see now it is MJ.

Just remember op there is never an ideal time. Drinks out with the girls, school picnic, etc etc.

If you want to try it, do it. If you have symptoms you can try measures to improve them. Also depends on body weight as 2.5mg in a bigger body will be less likely to have side effects than a smaller one. My BMI was 31 and I weighed around 12.5 stones starting and medicines always affect me strongly!

Oh, interesting. I am tall but very overweight indeed - like have about 10 stone to lose - so maybe it won't do much. Hard to know!

If you start today, the worst of any side effects will be over or at least almost over by Wed. I find they usually hit on day 2 and 3 but some people don't have any at all. Personally I'd just crack on.

ThatCoralShark · 16/11/2024 13:10

Op just go for it, you’re making excuses not to,,,understandable but once you do you will wonder why you waited.

Lola3034 · 16/11/2024 13:45

If you decide to go for it, stock up on some anti sickness and diarrhea medication, mint tea, ginger, some electrolytes and so on. You never know how your body will react and last thing you want is to be sick and having to source all the remedies while having a busy and stressful week.

MsRumpole · 16/11/2024 15:19

I think I'm probably going to make a decision at bedtime tonight!

OP posts:
lunar1 · 16/11/2024 19:07

I was really nervous, and honestly I'd just do the injection, get into bed and go to sleep.

FlappingMadly · 16/11/2024 22:15

Op, I’ve been in it since August and never needed medication for side affects. Have 3 meals a day of protein and plenty fibre. Stand up and walk around after eating. Hydrate well all day. After dinner don’t eat anything else or the slower digestion and BS control will make you feel rubbish. It really will be fine! And don’t forget to join Nov starters thread!

MsRumpole · 17/11/2024 00:02

Well, I did it! The actual jab was fine so no worries there. Let's see what happens. I decided that I was always going to find a reason to talk myself out of it and my job is always stressful so might as well bite the bullet now. I really appreciate all views and am very excited to be doing this with others in the same boat.

Lola3034 · 17/11/2024 00:33

Congratulations! The biggest hurdle is over! Now fingers crossed for smooth and side effect free weight loss!
Make sure that you have some immodium or similar with uou! Never know if and when you might need it.

lunar1 · 17/11/2024 15:35

How are you feeling?

I'm 6 weeks on ozempic now, and have lost over 30lbs, it's a steady pace now, but if found a good balance and don't really have side effects.

MsRumpole · 17/11/2024 15:47

So far fine - no nausea. I normally have IBs-ish symptoms but they seem to have improved if anything. Really not hungry or thinking about food, though am drinking reasonably well. Have eaten small portions but well. I hope it's like this for the rest of the week!

OP posts:
Bellyblueboy · 17/11/2024 15:53

I waited until the night after a job interview - I suffered no side effects the first week in any case, but didn’t want to risk it.

i did have a dull headache and was very sleepy during week two.

Seems sensible. I'd do the same in your shoes. Why play Russian Roulette with a particularly important day? I'm also an "err on the side of caution" type of person if there's something to lose, otherwise I don't mind taking risks but I guess there are different kinds of people. Some dive in regardless and hope the gamble pays off. Interestingly it works out sometimes anyway. I hope it does for you, OP.
