I started on Wegovy 11 weeks ago (have stayed on 0.25 to minimise side-effects and because I didn’t want to get ill on holiday).

About 9 weeks ago I started some gentle exercise. I’m late 50s, very overweight, with a history of and ongoing shoulder issues which has led to really bad back pain so I struggled to walk/stand for more than a few minutes. I’ve also osteopenia, a family history of osteoporosis and my balance sucks. We were scheduled to go to Cambodia and I wanted to see Angkor Wat.

I started making myself walk round the block (1200 steps), which was all I could do without my back hurting. As it got easier/less painful I’d add on a street so that my circuits got bigger and bigger. A few weeks in I started going to my “old lady exercise class”, a physio-led stretch and balance circuit class. I had a couple of reformer Pilates sessions.

Today I walked 15,000 steps around Angkor Wat and two other big temple complexes in 34-degree heat and humidity. I am chuffed to bits.

(But this is just the beginning, I am enthused and inspired to carry on/increase fitness when I get home.)

So anyone who’s thinking “I can’t do this”, yes you can. Start small and keep going.

Well done OP! You must be thrilled. I’d loved to see Angkor Wat one day.

Look at Lucy Wyndham Read for easy but effective exercise routines. She is lovely - very gentle and calm.

And check out Dr Jo for physiotherapy exercises.

Also consider weight training with dumbbells. Start with 3-4 kg. Lots of trainers online, e.g. Fitness Blender, Growingannanas, Rebecca Louise, Heather Robertson.

What a fantastic story! Well done OP.

I second Lucy Wyndham Read. She does some lovely walks (Venice, Paris etc) that you can walk along to on those days when outside is less appealing.
There is also Pilates Live UK run by a physio with levels from beginner to challenging which I find really good as an older beginner.
Both free on YouTube.
