Which to choose

How did you decide which weight loss injection to use? I've read up a bit and am not sure if Mounjaro or Wegovy is best.

I'm mid 40s, on HRT and have a BMI of 34. I'd like to loose at least 2 stone.

Any advice?

Most people use Mounjaro. In clinical trials it has shown to be more effective and has less side effects. Wegovy is the inferior product.

As first message. Mounjaro is the way to go.

I filled out an online consultation form and Mounjaro was the suggested outcome.

If you’re not sure, have a chat with a pharmacist. Most of the online pharmacies will have a method to contact them. Although it is private medication, they can still advise and give you an informed medical opinion. You don’t have to make the decision alone.

Personally I went for MJ because it does a little bit extra than Wegovy and it was a more recent medication with better clinical trial results. However some people prefer Wegovy, some experience different side effects etc.

I have been on both.

Mounjaro seemed to have more of a ‘magic’ willpower switch on effect - not really willpower but just no need for it.

Both made big meals impossible to finish.

Side effects were similar for me until suddenly they were much worse on Mounjaro

Wegovy has been around longer and more is known about it. I think it is a bit cheaper now.

Mounjaro has the possibility of getting five doses per pen, Wegovy doesn’t. The mechanism for the Wegovy pen is better and it comes with its own good quality needles. Mounjaro is (slightly) more of a faff to administer and needles come separately which is not a big problem but some providers forget to send them and the you have to chase them or buy your own.

Mounjaro has better results on average. It’s good there are two options in case you don’t get on with one you can try the other.

My weight loss rates were similar on both - I was on Wegovy longer to start with and had plateaued which is why I changed the first time.

There is more support on Mumsnet if you are on Mounjaro.

Oh another anecdotal thing - Mounjaro seems to be better for reducing anxiety. Lots of people seem to find this on here and I did too. In fact it was another reason for my switch - I wondered if Wegovy was making me anxious. The anxiety didn’t go away during my break between them but did when I started Mounjaro. (It hasn’t come back -yet- now I am back on Wegovy and could all be a coincidence)
