Post Christmas rush

As I like many other people used to join a slimming club after Christmas. It was always super busy with new and rejoiners, I expect that a lot of people will be waiting to start WLI in January, So will the extra surge cause an issue for those who are already on the jabs?
I have worked out I need to order my January medication just before xmas which has its own postal issues, so will order early.

Ordered mine a few weeks ago as my provider had a 16% discount code on so I pre ordered. I have one coming the end of next week which will take me to early Jan and another coming first week in December and will cover me to mid Feb.

I am hoping my pharmacy will prioritise their existing and loyal customers that don't want a gap in their ongoing treatment and have pre ordered, but who knows!

I do expect it will be difficult in January especially if pharmacies give discount codes to attract customers and people start switching to get the best price putting pressure on pharmacies to complete more consultations/onboarding of new customers.

I will be ordering an extra couple of pens next month to take me up to near the end of March as I am worried about a shortage in Jan.
Yes I realise I am contributing to the problem but am being honest about it.

Pumpkinforever · 10/11/2024 20:25

Ooh that is a good idea

Snozzlemaid · 10/11/2024 20:57

I've planned to get another one soon for this reason but I can't decide what dose to order.
I've just started a 10mg pen and have another 10 ready in the fridge. These two will take me into January but I would like to order another one before the end of November, but not yet sure whether to stick with 10 or get a 12.5 next time.

Littleannoyingperson · 10/11/2024 21:41

I think the added complexity is people are often skint in Jan.

Snoozysu · 11/11/2024 19:07

Very true about being skint, but some people ask fir the jabs as a Christmas present, or a present to themselves.

Really? I’m surprised at that.

OddBoots · 11/11/2024 21:28

Anyone starting will be on a 2.5mg so those on higher doses should be fine, I would have thought.

Was just about to say the same :)

It won't just be about the supply of different doses, I think the bigger issue will be about the pharmacies not being prepared, or having enough resources to approve a significant increase in queries, orders/prescriptions, being overwhelmed with new consultations, dispatches.

Then the additional workload of more patients having questions, problems with pens, problems with missing packages, issues with pens arriving warm etc.

They seem to manage new patients separately to existing ones. Two different processes for those already approved. And I really don’t think many people will get a mounjaro pen for Xmas, not least as one pen does nothing, it’s a full course of treatment, and secondly you need to be prescribed and go through the consultation in advance.

3wDavid · 12/11/2024 18:57

Just my two cents - if this thought has occurred in your head, it would have also occurred to the pharmacies. I reckon they would stock up appropriately, or extra, beef up staffing levels if needed, etc etc. They do this for money at the end of the day, and I am sure the Jan rush to get in shape will be on their bingo cards.

Doggymummar · 12/11/2024 19:01

This will be my second January on it, there wasn't a shortage last year, my problem was I couldn't afford it 😭 for three months

Bellyblueboy · 12/11/2024 20:37

My problem is hiding the pens over Christmas. I haven’t told anyone and have lots of family staying. Was thinking of wrapping it in tinfoil - harder if there are spares in there!

Are you on Mounjaro?
I didn't think it was available privately in the UK until around March this year.

Choux · 13/11/2024 13:03

@Doggymummar mounjaro was only released in Feb 2024 in the UK.

@Bellyblueboy I had people staying a month ago and needed to hide 5 pens. I took them all out of their boxes and then wrapped just the pens in tinfoil and then put them in a Tupperware towards the back of an unexciting fridge shelf eg with the condiments not with the cake or leftovers. The flattened boxes went with the needles, wipes and sharps bin in the bottom of the wardrobe. No one noticed the Tupperware at all.
