MJ side effects worse in second week - anyone else?

Hi all - firstly, I’d like to thank everyone for these conversations they were a really great tool for me when researching WLIs along with medical advice etc and I decided on Mounjaro.

I started just over a week ago. I took my first injection early evening, I’d been really careful with what I ate in the week leading up to starting as I’d read about potential side effects if injected following large or greasy meals!
Side effects were mainly what I’d expected having read up - good appetite suppression, feeling full etc and I ate a very healthy diet with it leading to a loss of 7lb in that first week.

So I took my second jab the night before last - exactly the same time and day as the first, had similar meals before and after, I’d checked the liquid was clear etc and I know it’s not necessary but I’d kept it in the fridge. I followed the instructions to the letter again and had the same dose but I’ve had much more severe side effects from this one. I woke up yesterday really gassy with the sulphur burps, had a tummyache and headache all evening and then had to get up in the night to be sick.

Has anyone else had this with the second week after reacting well in the first week? I can’t think of anything I’ve done differently?
I’m not sure if my body is still adjusting to it but it’s been almost impossible to eat the last couple of days because of it and I don’t want to lose weight really quickly and dangerously. Maybe I was being a bit naive but just assumed I’d be fine in the second week as I was in the first! Side effects seem to have subsided now but if I get this every time I inject I don’t think I’ll be able to continue as last night was awful!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Don't forget that the drug builds up in your system, it doesn't go down to nothing before the next injection. So you are experiencing a higher level now than anything you had in the first week.

I find that I eat less on the first couple of days after the injection, and then gradually more through the rest of the week.

Just hanging my hat on this thread please if I may. Considering starting this drug should my latest attempt at weight loss fail.

Hope you feel better soon op!

Completely normal I'd say, I'm on 7.5 now and I've lost 2 stone 6 since the Jun22nd when I started.

I'm a slow looser but happy with that. I still get the burps, nausea, not so much headaches but one week I can be fine, the following week the side effects are definitely there.

That said, I wouldn't have lost weight without Mounjaro, it's put my hjgh blood pressure back to normal,my cholesterol is reducing and hopefully at my next scan my fatty liver has improved.

It's a journey and as individual as you are x

Brilliant to read your success story butterfly0404

Op I am not posting this to be alarmist, obviously the drug works well for a lot of people, but did you see this on another thread? Posting because the poor lady experienced issues after the second injection:

Given the article above I would recommend you seek medical advice and speak to your pharmacy about this

MyOpulentDuck · 08/11/2024 14:54

Thanks for your response - yes I saw this earlier today and obviously had a bit of a panic given the side effects I experienced yesterday!

Thanks to you all for your helpful advice. It didn’t even occur to me that the drug was building up in my system as the appetite suppression had waned by day 6 I assumed it was out of my system!

Ill go ahead with my third dose as planned next week but if I experience the same again I might inject 8 days after the following week instead of 7?

Thanks for the advice but I’m feeling much better today and the stomach ache I experienced yesterday was pretty mild so I’d say my symptoms were amongst the common side effects.

If the symptoms get any worse then I will definitely be seeking medical advice.

I am so glad you started this thread. I have been using Mounjaro for two months but I have started panicking now. I used a dosage of 2.5g for 5 weeks and had no side effects other than maybe because very mild diarrhoea during those 5 weeks.

Then i thought I would do a week on 3.75mg before moving up to the next dose, that was fine too.

As soon as I hit my second week of 5mg I have started having issues with indigestion. Two weeks in a row straight for a few days after injection I have had intense stomach pain to the point where it only stopped after I was sick with awful Sulphur burps and diarrhoea. I have been worried about eating because of the fact that it feels like the food is just sitting there.

The first week was particularly bad I was in such intense pain I considered going to A and E. This is now the second week of this happening and I don’t know whether I should go back to a lower dose where I didn’t have any side effects or just stop.

My tummy feels so unsettled at the moment although not in pain but I fear my next jab coming up on Tuesday which would be my 3rd 5mg. I even took caution to eat less greasy food but I am generally still eating the same healthy meals when I started Mounjaro. Maybe my digestive system cannot tolerate 5mg as a dose

It would be a shame to have to stop as I slowly managed to loose 7kg since I started.

I’m thinking about continuing on 2.5mg if I’m still getting good results by the end of the month. I have definitely experienced a good amount of appetite suppression and if I’m losing weight steadily then I won’t be moving up a dose until I start to plateau.
I’m a single, working parent and had to scrimp and save and do as much overtime as I could to be able to afford this in the first place. I’m really hoping I can carry on with it but life with 2 very active children would be extremely difficult if I suffer bad side effects regularly

Same with me I have two younger children under the age of 5 and I would not like to feel so ill that I cannot do normal day to day life with them.

I will likely take a break for a week and then just stick to the 2.5mg dose if that keeps things manageable. I don’t want to risk any long term issues. I will probably also see what my provider says about this.
