Been refused Mounjaro by Numann

Has anyone been refused and successfully appealed to get Mounjaro privately. Got refused by Docs as my BMI not 35 and I need to have tried three diabetes medications. Have a cardiac issue but apparently was born with it 61 years or so ago, only just discovered. Surgery said okay to take mounjaro with my medication. Anyone else been refused.

I don’t think there is an appeal process op

im sorry what you’re saying isn’t clear, you don’t need a bmi of 35. It’s 27 with health issues or 30 without, and numan , or any other prescriber, doesn’t ask you to try different diabetes medicines .

can you be clearer on what numan said?

ApolloandDaphne · 06/11/2024 07:05

Try somewhere else and see what they say?

ApolloandDaphne · 06/11/2024 07:06

It's unlikely you can make an appeal. They are a private company and can choose who they do or don't prescribe to.

SunQueen24 · 06/11/2024 07:17

i would try someone else or a private GP appt to get it OP.

healthybychristmas · 06/11/2024 07:28

Are you trying to get it with your own GP or with a private provider?

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 06/11/2024 08:54

Maybe try a pharmacy with a more personal approach as I think the applications with some of the bigger ones can be a little bit of a 'box ticking' exercise.

They are and tbh I think it’s frightening.

They are but it is better that someone with a cardiac condition be declined rather than just waved through.

You need someone medically qualified to review your case holistically, OP. I'd see if you can find a private GP who is willing to prescribe.

I got refused on the NHS because I did not fit the criteria. I was told my BMI should be at least 35, it is 31. I also had to have failed results on three different diabetes medications. The surgery pharmacist suggested I obtain it privately. I approached a private company and was refused because I am on Metformin.

My doctors surgery said I was fine to take mounjaro with my cardiac medication but I was just not eligible under the NHS. The email from the private company refused me on the grounds of my anti diabetes medication, therefore the metformin. I did check with surgery if once I got Mounjaro whether I should stop the metformin but was told I should continue with it and take both.

It is fine, but you’ll need a doctor not a pharmacy. Go see a ( good) private GP as you are complex. Mounjaro and metformin can be used together

FlappingMadly · 06/11/2024 10:24

Then get a note from your doc and send to Numan. I did find Numan a pain - was receiving ‘problem with order message’ same time as receiving delivery messages.

I would try somewhere smaller like Simple online Pharmacy or Oushk, OP see

I agree Oushk are very good and answer the phone (or call back promptly) to queries.

BrownJenkins · 06/11/2024 14:18

@troubledmother Try MedExpress. I'm on metformin and they accepted me.
Good luck

KitsyWitsy · 06/11/2024 14:20

I'm on Metformin too. It's fine. Try medexpress.

troubledmother · 06/11/2024 18:30

I tried my surgery first then a private provider.
