I was working in the office today. My colleague was feeling down and asked me to go to lunch at a restaurant. The old pre jab me would have loved this idea! But I must admit I was worried she would notice I couldn't eat as much or ordered a smaller portion. I decided these things will come up so went anyway and ordered a smaller portion which I could not manage to finish. She ate the rest of mine. She didn't ask any questions I said I wasn't feeling too hungry which was true. It made me realise how much I was eating pre jab. Probably too much in all honesty.

I go out for a lot of food too which was fine when I wasnโ€™t trying to be โ€˜goodโ€™ and itโ€™s how I ended up at 16stone!

Im trying to cut back but itโ€™s hard as I swear everyone everywhere is always suggesting going for food.

I also feel like im so early into my journey and im trying to avoid eating out too much as it makes me feel out of control. I know that sounds daft but I canโ€™t help feeling like that. Iโ€™m happy to go for a meal out when im further into my journey but itโ€™s constant.

My husband was home today and we went out for breakfast but then he also wanted to go out for lunch and for drinks!
My work team want to go for a team meal on Monday and I have not 1 or 2 but 3 Xmas work meals I have to attend at the end of this month and December.
I also have a meal out at the Ivy this weekend for my husbands birthday. Itโ€™s just constant.

Im sat here trying to think how can I avoid some of these meals.

I think enforced eating out is hard especially when we want to take our MOUNJARO on the quiet. I recently had a long weekend away, eating out for every meal. I planned ahead whenever I could, downloaded the menus and called ahead when I could to see what options were available. I also left a lot of food but I think people donโ€™t tend to notice that. I did end up eating some really nice food and enjoyed not feeling bloated afterwards.

I agree, I donโ€™t want everyone to know yet and I know itโ€™s because if I fail at this I donโ€™t want to explain myself to everyone when they see me again in 3-4-5 months time and I havenโ€™t changed.

Iv looked up the menus for this weekend and for Mondays meal and neither have calories on which is a shame as I calorie count as it works for me.

I canโ€™t avoid my husbands birthday meal๐Ÿ˜‚ but Iโ€™m debating not going into the office on Monday and saying I have a dodgy stomach! So I can still work from home but it isnโ€™t safe to be in the office ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

The Xmas meals I will leave lots of it and no one will notice as 2 of them are events I have to run so no one will care what Iโ€™m doing.

I have more meals out in December for family catch ups I canโ€™t avoid either. It just feels a lot of what I/we do now is centred around eating out and I need to tone it down if I have any chance of getting slim and remaining slim after MJ. I never used to be as big as I am now, I was a size 10-12 for years and years and Iv gained all this weight in the last 2-3years due to some health issues and once they were mostly resolved it was down to plain old being greedy! I donโ€™t know what happened to me ๐Ÿ˜‚

From a medical point of view I suspect the concern around the bonus dose is unless you measure it out with a needle and syringe you don't actually know how much you are giving yourself, even though you can turn the pen back to 1 you might be giving less than the prescribed dose. I suspect it's something the company have asked pharmacies to discuss with patients. It's a bit like taking a liquid antibiotic and just swallowing a mouthful rather than measuring it.

I have no issues taking my bonus dose but I do so with a needle and syringe so I know the exact amount I'm getting

Well, no. So Iโ€™m assuming he asked and this was the answer?

Yep itโ€™s a good point. So much of my socialising has revolved around food - meals out, coffee with cake, cream teas ๐Ÿ˜ณ Iโ€™m also going to have to think about how I do things differently in the long termโ€ฆ

Going out for meals, especially in the run up to Christmas is a worry! So far I've only been having a nandos if I fancy a take away.

So it's my birthday in a few weeks, and usually me and my bf would go out for a big meal (literally stuff my face until I need to unbutton my jeans level of eating) and I now I feel really lost haha. Any ideas on non-food ways to go out and do something nice? I'm so stuck!

Spa day? Cinema? Theatre tickets ? maybe just a couple of drinks somewhere?
Comedy show?

Coffee with cake is fine, I feel I can control that and just have the coffee at a catch up๐Ÿ˜‚
You reminded me I have a cream tea for 2 booked at the Ivy for the 21st November ๐Ÿซฃ It was a voucher I received as a Xmas gift and booked it 2 months ago for a date myself and my mother could do!

Someone just needs to lock me in the house til Iโ€™m skinny please ๐Ÿ˜‚

rockingbird · 06/11/2024 20:35

Question: is everyone also incorporating exercise in? Last week was a no hope for me but this week I've got the walk pad out and weights. I'm doing a 5k walk first thing then abs/arms with weights after the school run. I can't go too mad as I have a meniscus tear (knee). Just wondering what others are doing..

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 06/11/2024 20:43

Going out to eat has now become about eating something really delicious cooked by someone else. It used to be about getting the biggest or most decadent item.

Since starting Mounjaro I have been out for loads of meals. Things that have worked:

Going for brunch so I just have that and a small evening meal
Going to a posh steak house - loads of protein, really good veggie sides that are shared
Tapas/small plates that are shared

No-one notices because what I am doing now is eating normally. It is not normal to eat three huge courses and then have chocolate when you get home. It is not normal to eat one of those grotesquely huge pieces of cake that everywhere seems to sell now. It is not normal to eat constantly in the car or at your desk. It is not normal for every activity to have a matching meal eg cinema, bowling etc. It is not normal.

Now I am free to enjoy the flavours and textures, to savour what someone has literally studied to make as tasty as possible. I enjoy the conversations with friends and family, I'm not thinking about how I could cram in a pudding. And it's so much fucking cheaper! One course and no booze instead of multiple drinks and 3 courses.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 06/11/2024 20:44

Sorry for the essay ๐Ÿ˜…

PolaDeVeboise · 06/11/2024 20:57

Is it only me who feels less suppression on 5mg than they did on 2.5?

FuckOffGerms · 06/11/2024 21:07

I took 5mg this afternoon and my nausea has come back. Hopefully itโ€™ll subside as quickly as it did on the 2.5mg.

I really recognise the feelings about eating out, @JustKeepsBreathing and @Fizzleaway1. I went out for a meal with DH and the DCs at the weekend. I ended up eating half of my meal and sharing the remainder with the DC. It was lovely, I didnโ€™t feel uncomfortably full like I would have done pre-MJ and subsequently didnโ€™t beat myself up for over eating.

I think the tricky bit will be the socialising over Christmas. There are some foods (mostly chocolate) that I canโ€™t refuse and yet with MJ, Iโ€™m barely bothered by it. Iโ€™m sure my parents and sister will be very suspicious!

HansHolbein · 06/11/2024 21:49

@TheChosenTwo Me too. I just donโ€™t care. Right now I am regretting ordering the 5mg ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

@Evenstar I am taking it as prescribed but everyone is different. I am a stickler for rules..

@Loujab Kind of. Iโ€™ve set up a Pinterest board of clothes I want to wear. Think mom jeans and oversized shirts. Canโ€™t wait! I donโ€™t get my hair and nails done so canโ€™t treat myself there! Also mounjaro has killed my need to spend money so Iโ€™m a bit fucked ๐Ÿ˜‚

@Missreginafalange I always do tummy and havenโ€™t had any significant side effects.

@Pegsmum Let us know how it goes!

@Maarva Great to read your experience and well done on the loss. Itโ€™s life changing. I feel free for the first time in about 20 years.

@rockingbird How are you feeling this evening? Hope you managed to eat something. Nausea must be awful!

@SunQueen24 You poor thing. Youโ€™ve had a really tough time. Are you still considering stopping?

@OrbitingTheEarth Great news! Makes me less nervous for next weekโ€ฆ

Totally agree with others that itโ€™s so freeing not to be thinking about food. Before mounjaro, my life revolved around food and when I was next going to get it. Like a drug addict!

I havenโ€™t been out for dinner yet but I think we have something planned before Christmas. I think it will be nice to enjoy the company rather than fixating on the food and making sure I get the biggest plate etc. I used to get really pissed off with a small portion.. how embarrassing.

@rockingbird Yes, Iโ€™ve got the Apple Watch on and doing 10K steps a day. Me and husband are doing alternate days of yoga and resistance training. I feel really good. Iโ€™ve actually got some motivation for once!

That was sooo long, sorry!

Fizzleaway1 · 06/11/2024 22:05

@rockingbird I havenโ€™t started working out yet. I get a free gym membership via my work but I havenโ€™t been for over 6 months! My plan is to drop 2-3 stone and then start working out to encourage weight loss when it would be slowing down. I want to get rid of 6 stone so plenty to lose still at the half way point.

@TheAmazingShrinkingWoman so glad itโ€™s working for you and you are finding ways to go out still for food!

@FuckOffGerms I hope you feel better soon. Donโ€™t get me started on chocolate, thatโ€™s my weakness ๐Ÿ˜… I havenโ€™t gone off it with MJ either but I am eating far less then I used too.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 06/11/2024 23:25

Has anyone gone to 5mg from 2.5 after 3 weeks?

My next batch is arriving at the weekend, and I still have the 4th dose (plus bonus if it works) left, but I have barely noticed the suppression, or had any side effects on 2.5 this week so am thinking of jumping up one week early.

I am not fussed about the cost of the missing the 4th if the 5th will start working.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 06/11/2024 23:33

*5mg not 5th

JustKeepsBreathing · 07/11/2024 00:00

@DeltaAlphaDelta79 i havenโ€™t seen anyone who has done that but if you want to you could use the 2.5 and just give yourself 2 doses couldnโ€™t you? Suspect youโ€™d need to force the pen to turn to get the second 2.5 dose out. But Seems a shame to waste it.

I ended up going for a spontaneous meal out last night. I ate one of those nourish bowl sort of meals. Lots of veg and protein. Couldnโ€™t finish it though. We shared a starter of prawns and I just had a vodka and soda. Itโ€™s the first drink Iโ€™ve had in ages!
No regrets, feel fine now (dh has woken me up tossing and turning in bed so Iโ€™m in the wide awake club!). Iโ€™m also going out tonight on a pre planned night out which Iโ€™m not really looking forward to as usually Iโ€™d get food and a few drinks but all of the food choices from memory are things Iโ€™m actively avoiding. I might tell them Iโ€™m meeting them a bit later, skip the meal and drive, offer them all a lift home instead.

rockingbird · 07/11/2024 06:01

Morning all! I've slept much better and woken not feeling too bad ๐Ÿ™ this nausea seems to have died down thank goodness. I've also woken up to find someone has used my code and I have ยฃ40 off my next order which is amazing. ๐Ÿคฉ I managed to eat 2 fish cakes last night (bizarrely what fancied) had some baked beans with it and did well keeping it in. Today is wk2 day6. Trying not to step on the scales daily as I was starting to get scared dropping so fast. Focusing on trying to eat a little and move more. Happy Thursday all xx

I was on a long weekend in Europe, eating out every meal. I just sat next to my SDS16 for every meal and he finished everything for me ๐Ÿ˜…

End of week 3 for me, 4lb loss taking my total to 20lbs so far.

Had a bad day yesterday. Took apple slices as a snack while out with DD, ate two and my tummy turned solid and heavy. Luckily no gastro issues but that heavy full feeling and gurgling lasted the rest of the day, had to force myself to drink and eat some protein. I remember a poster said they couldnโ€™t eat grapes so wondering if apples are the same for me ๐Ÿค”.

Kept up with strength and cardio and feeling good other than yesterdayโ€™s odd turn. 4th jab tonight and will be staying on 2.5mg for my next pen.

crumbsonmyface · 07/11/2024 07:06

@Fizzleaway1 - thatโ€™s a good idea, I love a spa day and havenโ€™t done one in aggges, thanks!

@rockingbird - glad to hear youโ€™re feeling a bit better! I used to be a gym every day person, so trying to keep that up (about 7k steps per day/strength training) but the first few weeks were too tiring, so Iโ€™ve just been listening to my body - itโ€™s felt a bit easier this week. Howโ€™re you finding the walking pad?

@TheAmazingShrinkingWoman - I love those meal out ideas. Youโ€™re so right about eating normally now. Your whole post just makes me remember eating pre mj. I would always be that person needing snacks before and after the meal out, when no one else was eating. Cinema pre-meal, cinema snacks and then going home and needing to sit on the sofa and eat more!

It's my 5th jab on 1.25mg today, feeling a little nervous, but hoping this is a no side effects kind of jab!! Wish me luck ladies ๐Ÿ™ˆ

True, I had not thought of that. I have heard of the bonus dose not working on some pens, so was not banking on getting it. I could also let my OH use 2 lots of the 2.5 to see how they get on with it.
