Morning all. Great to see this thread is still so busy and supportive! So many of you reporting great losses and NSVs. For those struggling, I hope things improve quickly for you.

I totally get the feeling that our goal weights seem a long way off. I have to remind myself that it took me 10 years to gain 4st, so it's not going to be a quick fix (especially as I'm post-menopausal). However, after falling off the healthy eating wagon last weekend (during a trip away) and having less supression and more food noise this week, I'm finding that this drug is helping me to get back on track and keep my eye on the prize. I've had to use a bit of willpower, but that's no bad thing.

My own NSV is a dramatic reduction in the pain in my hips and legs. I have an inflammatory condition (CRPS) and the pain has frequently been intolerable. Since starting MJ, it's now very low level. As a result, I've been able to start walking for exercise, something I hadn't been able to do since my illness started.

I weighed in yesterday and it was a lovely surprise to see a 1.8lb loss. Took my 2nd 5mg yesterday too, and I'm hoping that as the levels of the drug in my body increase, supression will increase and food noise reduce. I certainly feel less hungry this morning.

Week 6 weigh in:
SW 14:4.8 (BMI 30.6)
CW 13:2.0 (BMI 28)
Total loss 1st 2.8lb
GW 10st?

Good luck to you all and please keep posting!

I bought the little packets of dextro energy things and have one or two when I feel a bit 'weird'

Thatโ€™s what I just ordered, I woke up again feeling nauseated and a little dizzy , and it just occurred to me it could be low blood sugar. Literally a small level table spoon of honey and I feel great again. Nausea completely gone, no dizziness, feel Like I did with the 2,5mg. Within minutes. So will keep the dextro energy sweets handy. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Has anyone been able to manage going out for a drink? Iโ€™ve got a couple of nights out with the same groups of friends coming up. Iโ€™d be able to go without drinking on one of them, but going twice would cause questions and Iโ€™ve not told them about MJ. Iโ€™d also quite like to be able to have a drink, too. But Iโ€™ve read about a lot of people reacting badly to even just one drink and throwing up etc. Iโ€™ll maybe have to think up an excuse like antibioticsโ€ฆ

Iโ€™ve been out 3 times since I started just under five weeks ago. And drunk each time, and it is totally fine, hangovers not worse than usual. All good.
the only thing is one of the times I obvs didnโ€™t want my meal, so picked. And one time we were sharing jugs of margaritas and I started to feel a little drunk so stopped and drank a couple of pints of water, and was fine again.

so just be careful but Iโ€™m totally fine drinking. And Lilly the manufacturer says itโ€™s fine. Be careful as you can be effectively drinking on an empty tummy

it does slow weight loss, but more you retain fluid for a few days after.

Bellablahhole · 15/11/2024 07:41

@AllstarFacilier I'm able to drink alcohol with no negative effects (as my wine and gin intake last weekend proves ๐Ÿ˜‚).

Bluenose1966 · 15/11/2024 07:42

I am loosely following the Michael Mosely Fast800 to give myself a quick start, have tried it before but always gave up as didnt have willpower. Making sure I have at least 90g of protein and plenty of fibre as keep reading studies which says one of the unintended consequences of MJ is losing muscle mass. Something not good for any of us as means will regain weight quicker and lose strength.
I am already thinking about how I am going to manage maintenance, think I will have to take for a long time.
SW 12st 2lb
CW 11st 2lb - after 3 weeks.
Though currently on holiday so not sure at moment what I weigh.....
Want to lose another 1.5 stone.

Me too!! This has helped so much when feeling a bit off. I kept waking up in the night feeling shaky and it was low blood sugar. If anyone else is having this, try and eat some protein before bed - it will help stop your blood sugar dipping in the night.

3 for 2 in asda, so a pack for cupboard, handbag and desk in work x

littleburn · 15/11/2024 08:22

W7D4 for me and 4 x 2.5, 2 x 3.75 and 1 x 5 injections down so far. Definitely felt nauseous at the start of the 3.75, but the transition to 5 has been absolutely fine with no side-effects. I take electrolytes every day as after a couple of weeks on 2.5 I was feeling odd and shakey and they've completely knocked that on the head.

I'm only having a weigh in every couple of weeks or so because I like to see a definite drop and not get distracted by the day-to-day fluctuations!

Height: 5' 2"
SW: 12st 2lb (BMI 31)
CW: 11st (BMI 28)
GW: 10st initially, 9st 7lb ultimate goal

16lb down in 6 and a half weeks, but definitely slowing down to 1.5/2lb a week loss now. This is the lightest I've been in 5 years ๐Ÿ˜Š. I'm thinking I'll stick with 5mg for my third pen as the suppression through the week has been consistent at this dose with no tapering off.

Thank you, just ordered from Amazon and will get some at Asda at the weekend,

we should maybe ask for a a sticky, things you need when starting

biotin
collagen tablets
โ€ฆ.both for hair and skin,
psylium husk or other fibre to keep everything moving
probiotic to keep any digestive issues at bay
dextro/glucose tablets in case you feel dizzy and sick as it is likely low blood sugar
extra pen needles in case one jams and the pen doesnโ€™t work.
medical grade insulin needles if you want the fifth dose.
ginger biscuits or sweets in case of just nausea.

im sure there are plenty more, but collectively I suspect we can put together a list that would help people, either starting or already on the journey.

Maarva · 15/11/2024 09:01

Coming on for my weekly update. W5D1 weigh in day today and am down 1st 3lbs which I am amazed by. I didnโ€™t dare to hope for this kind of loss. Iโ€™ve been overweight or obese since I was a child so this drug is incredible.
SW 13st
CW 11.11
GW 9.7
I messed up the bonus dose though - not going to try that again. Did a hard twist ok but the plunger only went half way down and then stuck. Iโ€™ve taken 1.25 out of my next pen, but I am not going to try to do a hard twist on another pen. Not brave enough to try an insulin needle so think I am going to stick to just the 4 doses per pen.

ChimneyRock · 15/11/2024 09:28

Just can't decide whether to stick on the 2.5mg dose or up it to a 5mg pen. I'm losing fine on 2.5 and would ideally like to remain on the lowest does that works. However, I'm only on the first pen so it's early days (about to take jab 4). I have also been fortunate not to have had any side effects so far and don't want that to change.

I am in the same boat as you. I ordered a 5 pen but am losing well on 2.5 so going to give myself half a dose, with the option to increase if it loses its effectiveness.

How is your suppression? 2.5 isnโ€™t therapeutic, the 5 is. I was fine for the first 4 days on 5mg, then became seriously nauseated and dizzy, felt proper shit, as said up thread, itโ€™s low blood sugar.

I think we all learn on this drug. What Iโ€™ve learned is:

eat healthy. Avoid too many carbs, fatty food, sweets etc. lots of lean meats, fish, veg, salad, fruit.
โ€˜eat small and often, there is a reason the manufacturers say this, clearly so your blood sugar doesnโ€™t drop.
ensure you get enough protein in. This is critical. To stop muscle wastage.
drink two to three litres a day of water.
exercise. Whatever that looks like for you. But move. A walk, a dance, the gym, a swim, but move, keep building your muscle so you donโ€™t lose it instead of fat.

I think if you can do this and suppression is wearing off then move to 3.75 or 5mg. Iโ€™d buy a 5 mg pen and manage it via clicks. It gives you the choice.

ChimneyRock · 15/11/2024 10:14

Thanks @Relaxedandchilled

ChimneyRock · 15/11/2024 10:46

Right, so even though I'm really pleased with the weight loss so far on 2.5mg, I shall up it to 5mg and hope that that suffices.
I see what you mean about it not being therapeutic at 2.5. Had a look at the Asda site Q&A and they say you should move up unless advised differently by a doctor, for example if you've had severe side effects already - which I haven't.
Suppression has been fine so far but that could fade in another four weeks if I stay put.

UtterlyQuackers · 14/11/2024 19:22

How many calories are you all eating a day?

Struggling to stay under 2000 TBH but I do quite a bit of exercise so not putting weight on at least! (Currently weight 12st 6lbs)

I've injected in both thighs and both sides of my belly and not had any bruising or bleeding so I guess at least that bits going well for me ๐Ÿ˜„

ArtfullyCrumpled · 15/11/2024 10:58

Great to read your learning @Relaxedandchilled

I've also learned that wine is not worth it.

AnneinEdinburgh · 15/11/2024 12:08

I really enjoy this thread with all you lovely ladies. I missed it for several days and had about 10 pages to go through.

Yes another one struggling with the dreaded constipation despite prunes and senna. Must drink more and consider the ball sacks. I don't feel uncomfortable, just nothing is happening, which is a bit of a shock for someone who can easily go normally 2-3 times a day!

I have PCOS too and have lost a stone in 3 weeks on MJ. Still on 2.5mg but next syringe is waiting with 5mg in it. If MJ provides a medical solution to my weight, it makes me even crosser about all the people who blame lack of willpower and bad choices and laziness. I am still 18 stone with about 8 stone to lose but one stone down is a good step forward.

I haven't really done much to change either my diet or increase my level of exercise yet. I am definitely eating less, craving less, staying full longer. I am hoping to keep going like that as it is when I announce to myself that I am on a diet and spend too long thinking about the requirements that things go wrong. I either give up or get so miserable that I end up eating to reward myself or eatign to celebrate. I remember going to a Weight Watchers meeting having been to the loo 3 times and having weighed my clothes to make sure they were as light as possible. We then went out for ice cream after to celebrate sigh. NO MORE!!

Missreginafalange · 15/11/2024 12:10

good to see all the losses this week! my 5mg has arrived and is chilling in the fridge (i used to say that about my wine ๐Ÿ˜‚) my question is for those that have used the bonus dose, it looks like there is more than 2.5mg left, have people just kept clicking to get 3.75mg say or withdrawn it with an insulin needle? wondering if i could do a week of 3.75mg to bridge before i go up to 5mg the week after. or i may just stick to 2.5mg on the bonus dose but interested in what others did?

Bellablahhole · 15/11/2024 12:26

@Missreginafalange I used an insulin needle* for my bonus dose from my 2.5mg pen, but only got *0.7ml (around 2.9mg, I think). So, a small increase in dose but not as much as some retrieve. It still helped as a step up to my 5mg pen, and it was easy to do and administer.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 15/11/2024 12:33

@AnneinEdinburgh oh I remember those days with slimming world! Eat and drink as little as possible all day, wear the lightest clothes, get publicly humiliated with a weigh in about 7pm, then go home, order a takeaway, eat chocolate, feel incredibly guilty, chastise myself but do exactly the same thing the following week.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 15/11/2024 12:35

@HansHolbein fingers crossed for you! We probably all expect an update in the morning ๐Ÿ˜‚

Missreginafalange · 15/11/2024 12:45

@Bellablahhole thanks, i think i may get an insulin needle then so its more accurate.
