How much medicine left after 4th dose of 2.5ml oen

Sorry if this has been asked before but how much medicine is left after a 4th dose of a 2.5ml pen?

also why is a hard twist necessary. Can I not administer next weekend the medicine that is left (counting clicks to administer 3.75ml if that’s what is available) by turning the end as normal? I was given a 5th needle with the pen.

thanks

The pens are all 2.4ml. 2.5mg is the dosage for your pen which is 0.6ml You can't twist the pen again normally once you've done 4 doses as there's a locking mechanism. You have to break the mechanism by doing a hard twist to be able to turn it to 1 again. If you do that, then the dose would be 2.5mg as that's what you get from a singe dose.

You can't administer 3.75mg directly from a 2.5mg pen in one go, even if you had sufficient medication left. The pen only turns to 1, which is 2.5mg. You would need to do two separate injections, a 2.5mg one and then a 1.25mg one using a new needle each time. Or, use an appropriate insulin string to extract the remaining medication and administer that way. Being careful to work out the ml you need for the dose you want.

The spare needle is in case you have an issue with one, not to suggest that you use the remaining medication.

How much is left after the 4 doses depends on how much liquid came out after priming each time. You won't know exactly how much unless you extract it with a syringe and measure it.

I used insulin needles to get out my fifth dose. There was about 0.7ml left in the pen.

Not *string but "syringe", goodness knows what an "insulin string" would be. Sorry about the mad typo.

It varies as depends how much has been used during priming. I got about 0.7ml (a normal dose is 0.6 so slightly more) but some get more or less.

The pen stops turning after so many clicks so wont allow you to get a dose using the normal process, if you try it will just stop going after a few clicks. You can try the hard twist method or extract out with an insulin syringe. If you do the hard twist you won't be able to get all of it out due to the shape of the pen, it would be I think max another 2.5 dose.

Sorry one more question. If it do a hard twist how many clicks do I need to count to be able to administer 1.25mg?

60 clicks takes you to the 1 position and a full 0.6ml dose (2,5mg on your pen). For a half dose, you turn it 30 clicks, but I don't know if it will actually click once you've broken the mechanism. You may need to count each line marker visually instead.

Will give it a go

I had just under 1ml but I took it out with an insulin needle per my GP’s advice. I think it works out to a 3.5ish dose so it’s a good bridge if you’re going up to 5.
