Questions about Mounjaro

How much does it cost overall?

How long do you need to be on it for?

What do you if eating out? And what about alcohol?

I'm 35 and weigh 16.5st, I have about 6st to lose to be a healthy BMI but realistically I'd be very happy to lose 4stone. The smallest I have ever been since my early teens is about 13st.

I've tried various diets and exercise but I never stick with it, i lose 1-2 stone and then I find an excuse to stop. I'm addicted to food and I'm not active enough. My relationship with food is absolutely tied to my mental health.

I'm thinking about trying Mounjaro but I'm not sure if I can afford it, I don't have anything spare each month, I budget down to the last penny. But if it was going to be hundreds of pounds total I could work out a way, if it is £thousands then it's out of the question.

Can you use it as a boost to get you started and then continue with diet and exercise?

It's about £160 a month, it's been 18 months for me. You can eat out, just tiny portions.

If you look at sites like monj .co.uk you will see the prices for each dose and many of the most well known registered pharmacies that it is safe to buy from.

Unfortunately it is not cheap and there is no guarantee you will respond at lower doses, many do, but just as many don't until they hit higher doses. It is not really a short term solution.

You can find all this out from reading about it on the websites of pharmacies that offer it.

You can find a price comparison of online pharmacies on a couple of websites:

www.missmounjarouk.com

monj.co.uk

You can change supplier each time you order if you need to, to take advantage of intro offers or referral codes.

I would budget for £150 to £200 per month, realistically.

You need to be on it until you reach a healthy weight, so under BMI 25 by a decent amount. The first month isn't meant to produce weight loss, although it can do. I have significantly more weight to lose than you so have planned to be on it for a year or so. Sustainable weight loss should be 1 to 2 pounds per week so you can work it out for your circumstances.

If eating out I order a small dish which is not carby or fatty and I don't usually finish it all. I don't drink alcohol but many people find they don't want to drink whilst taking it.

Over 18 months you could easily be looking at £3000. Allowing for increases to higher doses, the first 2.5mg will be the cheapest because there are so many codes.

If you know your eating is directly linked to your mood rather than feeling hungry all the time and constant food noise, it might not work for you at all but it might help you control binge eating (by making you feel uncomfortably full and sick quicker) and give you time to work on your mental health.

It's best to avoid alcohol or very much limit it as it will impede any weight loss and increase risk of complications. Lots of people find they have no desire for alcohol at all though.

You could set yourself a restricted time frame to see if it will work and use it to over haul your diet and exercise. You will need to restrict your calorie intake or it won't work regardless.

I’m hoping to lose probably 3st and plan to be on it 4-6 months. There are lots of discount codes for new customers but you will need to chop and change each month. I have stopped snacking completely. My cravings for chocolate have gone and I don’t fancy alcohol at all. I find I can eat more on days 5-7 so can forward plan and work round meals out. You will probably find some of the cost will be offset from not buying as much food.

Bellyblueboy · 05/11/2024 06:35

I am hoping to take five to six months to lose three stone. Six weeks so far and I have lost a stone.

The change in my hunger and thoughts about food is revolutionary. I was able to have Halloween sweets and chocolate in the house for a week and didn’t even consider eating any.

i think I might have to be on this for as long as they will let me - on a low dose. Otherwise I know the weight will go back on.

Can I check on cost p/m with someone here please? Everywhere I've looked seems to apply that the £120+ cost is per dose, with weekly doses being required. Or is it generally £120+ per month which covers the weekly doses.

If it's per dose this is a non starter for me so thought I'd check here before going through consultations etc.
Thanks.

SilenceInside · 05/11/2024 13:07

@TripleB32 it's per month, there are 4 doses in a pen, and the costs given are for the pen which will last you for the month.

That's per pen and you get 4 doses out a pen, most people get 5.
If money is an issue then switch and change suppliers each month, I've just got my 4th pen for £108 5mg from med express with discount.
This is my 3rd supplier now, and my next one I will change again to oushk, I will stay with them then as you can choose a delivery day and they support maintenance.

The choosing delivery day is my mai reason I'm gonna stay with them though as its annoying guessing when it will turn up and you have to sign for it..
