Crave sugar and carbs. Eat sugar and carbs.
Hate being fat but too fed up to diet.

Can I get Mounjaro?

@MrsTerryPratchett no medication. My cholesterol is apparently very high but, according to my GP, that thing they do to calculate your risk of a heart attack, is "surprisingly low" (knock on wood!) so they haven't prescribed statins.

Are you on statins?

No not yet. I'm trying to avoid it.

But losing weight is a big part of that and I've done that. But I only could because of keto. I had no off switch for carbs. At all. So I don't judge the weight drugs because if it does to appetite what keto did for me, all power to it.

Shhhthedogssleeping · 03/11/2024 11:02

AColdDayInTheSun. I’ve been so lucky with side effects. Constipation is a problem but I’m very constipated usually so it’s not much worse. I drink a lot of water because my urine looks dark and concentrated if I don’t. Apart from that I was ok until I’d been on the maximum dose for a while and then started getting some palpitations. I asked to go down a dose and I was ok again. I know everyone is totally different and some people seem to really struggle nausea, vomiting etc. I think you can only know when you give it a go.

aColdDayintheSun · 04/11/2024 06:46

Thanks @Shhhthedogssleeping

I've joined the November weightloss thread and am feeling quite motivated. So I'm going to give low carbing, no snacking a go.

I wish there wasn't a 7am-10pm Co-op on my doorstep to enable my impulse snack buying. Or a cafe for latte and cake when the isolation of wfh gets too much.

Need willpower - and if that fails then next month, I'll definitely look into the jab.

There is a lot of snarky-ness about weight loss injections. I am here to say go for it OP.

Contrary to all negative comments designed to put you off or make you feel bad for wanting to lose weight and be healthier- I am going to tell you that my experience is that it IS a bloody magic bullet.

I have done every fad diet you can imagine including Keto (probably one of the best for appetite suppression) but like all diets they are not sustainable long term and I simply do not have the will power to stick with them - and then inevitably put the weight back on. (and more)

Mounjaro is unlike anything before. It's like a syringe full of willpower. Not only have I had excellent appetite suppression , it has removed any thought of food from my head.

I have not had to count calories. TBH no one I know who is also on it - is counting calories. Most of us struggle to eat enough each day to the point where I have reminders to eat set on my phone.

As for 'you will still have to make healthy choices' comments. This is the truly miraculous part. The only foods I'm interested in are the healthy ones. With so little appetite, I automatically want to choose the lean protein and complex carbs, rather than waste my appetite on stuff that is bad for me. I just don't fancy it.

I have been on MJ since June and have lost 5 stone taking my bmi from 35 to 23. I am now titrating to a maintenance dose where I expect to remain for life.
I have basically exchanged all my medications related to obesity for this one to keep me healthy. At between £22-28 a week it actually saves me money as I no longer buy coffees , snacks or half the food I did.

Please tell your GP OP. I saw my practice nurse at my yearly MOT last week. She confided in me that at least eight of the HCP's at my practice also on Mounjaro . My nurse was so supportive.

Side effects. Now none. Had a few days of constipation in July moving from 2.5 - 5 but a small price to pay compared with both the actual and potential side effects of obesity.

Most reputable online pharmacies will prescribe for BMI 30 for Caucasians and 27 for mixed Asian/African ethnic backgrounds and/or Weight related health issues.

It's like a syringe full of willpower

That's exactly what i need!

I'm flip flopping now having joined a weightloss thread for the hundredth time

I think my very high cholesterol might be the deciding factor.

Mumuzuzu · 04/11/2024 08:34

I started at that weight 6 weeks ago.
Am now 10st5lbs

aColdDayintheSun · 04/11/2024 08:37

@Mumuzuzu - who prescribed it to you if your BMI was under 30?

OP posts:
Mumuzuzu · 04/11/2024 08:47

Medexpress but I said my weight was a stone heavier.

BMI is outdated
I was clearly overweight as my (then current) photo was accepted as overweight straight away.
My waist to height ratio was dangerous high.
I carried all my weight round my stomach.

I could have binged for a fortnightto go back up to 30bmi but what would be the point in that?

I originally started at 18 stone and lost 6 stone, but was stuck around 12stone for over a year.

So I got mounjaro and it's been amazing

naemates · 04/11/2024 08:57

Just to say OP, I've been on Mounjaro a couple of months, appetite suppressant is great but I'm still quite snacky when I'm stuck at home. I'm not hungry, but sometimes that still doesn't stop me.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 04/11/2024 08:57

Do the online assessment and see if they will take you.

On here you get all the MJ haters telling you you are hazy and should know better.

I was bmi 28 and got it with high cholesterol and raised bp

They did their due diligence.
My BMI at GPs is over 30
Why avoid them?

Mumuzuzu · 04/11/2024 09:02

By the way I have sleep apnea and high cholesterol so am entitled to it at BMI 27 as they're secondary conditions but they didn't ask about that

aColdDayintheSun · 08/11/2024 16:57

It's me again!

I thought Numan would be in touch to do a telephone assessment or something. But they want payment details to ship me the drugs. Is that right?

Who can't? Your GP or Numan?

Yes, they all do this.
If they don't approve you, you'll get the money back.

There's no telephone assessment from most providers. Their pharmacists look over your online consultation (the questionnaire you filled) and check if all is within eligible criteria. If so, then they approve the medicine for you and send it. You should then get an email to say it's been approved and on its way to you. If it's declined, you'll get a message too and a refund or no charge on your card.

The only time you're contacted separately by email or phone is if they have further questions or requirement clarification or to verify some information.

TheShellBeach · 10/11/2024 20:51

Medino do a telephone assessment.
I actually find that very reassuring.

FlappingMadly · 10/11/2024 22:44

I strongly advise you tell your GP if you are taking medication for your thyroid. You should be monitored For high cholesterol you need to focus on fibre

valueyourself · 11/11/2024 00:15

Floralnomad · 02/11/2024 23:33

You do realise that you need to change what you eat even on these medications otherwise you will just put it all back on when you stop using them

This is disingenuous. MJ suppresses your appetite therefore much less will power required.. it's really easy to do because most of us need to be reminded to eat !!

Cataddicted · 13/01/2025 00:32

My bmi is 26 and I’m also using it to kick start. I have high cholesterol and menopause weight I cannot shift. I also bought with Numan.

I’m also using it to break habits and in two days it has done already.

I'm closely monitoring myself and probably won’t go beyond the first pen. if I don’t feel good this week then I won’t even take a second dose. I’m 48 so hopefully know my body well enough.

I'm in a similar position to you so interested in your post. So you're already feeling like this has been beneficial to you. I need to lose about 1.5 stone as the heaviest I've been for years. Peri menopause has been unkind to me and I also feel I need to kickstart to a healthier change.
