Maunjaro or Wegovey? Private or NHS dilemma

I have been referred to Tier 3 weight loss clinic and my GP gave me the indication the referral would take aaaages to be activated. In the meantime after much thought I bought my first maunjaro pen 2 doses ago. However by referral has been screened and I have been accepted on to a weight loss programme and been told that in the next month I will have a consultation with a nurse consultant with a view to starting weight loss injections. They do not supply Maunjaro only Wegovy. What you do? Use the rest of the pen. Stop and wait to be assessed for NHS treatment? I'm in a bit of a quandary. All wisdom gratefully received.

Have you already taken some of your first pen? In which case, I'd be inclined to carry on and discuss this with the specialist when you see them. If you haven't, waiting a month is not that long.

It's possible to transfer from one med to the other, so it may be if you get a prescription for Wegovy you can swap to that.

Just my uninformed opinion, I've not been under weight management in the NHS. Good luck to you, whichever way you choose:

thanks for replying Hippo.

I have no idea about transferring from one to another, but yes, I have had two injections. Nor am I sure why the clinic only do Wegovy. My first "at club" is next week but I don't think that I get to see the nurse for a month and you are right I suppose a month isn't too long to wait.

On this forum it seems that manjauro is the favoured medicine.

I’m on mounjaro, as are several friends. It seems to be the one that gets best results for most. I’d stick with it now you’ve started and see what they say at your appointment.

You can swap. I swapped from wegovy to Mounjaro in September. You have to start on lowest dose when swapping and it will take me six months to get up to the same dose which is irritating and expensive as I am just maintaining on 5mg Mounjaro. Was on 15mg Rybelsus (tablet form of wegovy)

I would continue with the paid ones until you know for certain you are getting them on the nhs, they are notoriously difficult to get on the nhs

@Doggymummar sorry to hijack the thread how soon did you start mounjaro after stopping rybelsus please?
