I'm 43 years old and had my 3rd baby (hes 18 months now). Iv rejoined the gym since May and I go regularly, I'm very active generally and honestly not a big eater. I don't even snack much, I eat healthy home cooked meals and enjoy some biccies or chocolate on the odd day.

I genuinely cannot lose weight- I am putting this down to my thyroid (low). In fact I seem to be getting fatter and bloated. I don't tend to go off weight but more how clothes fit me and I just feel awful and big. I look slim but my bmi is now actually 27 (13 years ago my bmi was 19).

So I have decided to start mounjaro- what I want to know is if anyone else is like me, thyroid and actively trying to lose weight by exercise and not overeating etc. I see many ppl with lots to lose but self proclaimed overeaters and don't exercise.

So will this work on me? I feel like it's not going to work and I am already downhearted about it. Not sure how it can reduce my appetite when I don't have much of an appetite anyway. Only my dinner is a good amount , apart from that I have another mid day meal.

You're unlikely to get this prescribed as your BMI is below 30

sammyxo1 · 01/11/2024 22:56

I was told I can because my bmi is 27.3 and I have thyroid, certain ethnicity and also family history of heart disease (which is because of the ethnicity)

Okay, it means your bmi is in the obese category due to your ethnicity and you also have certain conditions that would make you qualify at that bmi as well.

You can try it and see how it works for you. You can always stop if it doesn't work but you need to give it some time.

It works in more ways than just curbing appetite, helps to sort out insulin resistance and other benefits.
Definitely give it a try, I've lost 4 stone when nothing worked for years, it's changed my life!!!!

@Carelesswispalover that's amazing! Can I ask, will you coming off them at any point and are u afraid the weight might come back on?

What thyroid medication are you taking and what are your levels like? Surely it would be better to address that rather than - as you say - using something to suppress appetite when your appetite isn’t the issue.

Yes I'm probably about 6/8 lbs off my goal, I've only made it to 7.5 mg and have another dose of it coming, and then I'm November I will order 5mg, and in December I'll order 2.5, I can't stay on it forever as I can't afford to, but the new healthy habits and knowledge I have about what actually causes me to put weight on will hopefully allow me to maintain.

The biggest motivation is how I'm feeling right now. I love my body again, I love clothes and I have so much more energy!

Here's a progress shot. I was size 18/20, 16 stone (maybe slightly more) and miserable. (I'm 5 ft 10)

Currently size 12 which is perfect for me with my height and bone structure, 12 stone on the button and so much happier and healthier.

I am so grateful these options are available to us now, all I can say is go for it, it will amaze you!

@Carelesswispalover that's awesome , you look amazing!! 🤩. So happy to hear positive results. I have only heard positive things tbf. I'm definitely trying it just wanted to manage my expectations. My sisters (who are more 'overweight' than me) are also doing it. They have always been quick with weight losses compared to me, so I'm already expecting them to show results faster than me
