BMI of 42. Bought Mounjaro but should I take it?

I’m short, fat, BMI is 42. First place I lose weigh from is usually my boobs, my biggest weight store is my belly and the last place I ever lose weight from.

I ordered Mounjaro from Voy last week when it was on offer. It arrived Saturday and is still sitting untouched in my fridge.

Should I use it? I’m so conflicted. I desperately want it to work, but I don’t want to lose lots of weight really quickly.

Start on a low dose (you do anyway but I started even lower). I certainly haven't lost weight very quickly at all.
Slow and steady

They’ve prescribed a 2.5mg dose - does that sound right? I do weightlifting which I really enjoy, so I still want to be eating enough to fuel myself properly.

Yes 2.5mg is the starting dose.

I started at a morbidly obese (Class III) BMI 42 (not short just fat! 😂).

18 weeks on I have lost over 50lbs and I am 3lbs away from obese (Class I). I am not saying you will lose the same as I will have spleen a much higher weight as I am tall, everyone is different, but the big thing for me is it has changed my relationship and thoughts about food.

What is stopping you for starting?

healthybychristmas · 29/10/2024 23:25

I would. I've been on it since June and have lost 17 kg. Make sure that what you eat is high quality. You won't want to eat much and will feel full for longer.

You can always stop if it doesn’t work for you!

It doesn't make you lose lots of weight really quickly so I'd not bank on that even if you wanted to. Your weightloss on it would depend on many factors but it's more likely it would be gradual, slow and steady. Even if you have periods of fast weightloss, you'd still have periods of slower WL so it balances out.

You've already spent the money and bought it. I presume you've read and researched and was convinced enough to go through with it. You may as well not waste the money and start. However, the expiry date should be next year so there's really no rush. Leave it in the fridge, take your time and do more research and reading and start when you're confident enough. The beginning can feel more daunting than after you've begun.

Why on earth not? Take it. I lost weight at a normal rate of 2lbs a week, it just made it easier.

morbidcuriosity · 29/10/2024 23:48

most of the people that lose lots of weight is the 1st week.. I lost 10lb in the first week, but then i am very heavy.. but this will be the same with any strong change of diet, mostly its water weight. i have then lost about 2 to 3 lb a week after that initial rush, which is what you should aim for anyway, this drug just makes it easier as you want need to resist chocolate crisps etc, you wont want them!

IchiNiSanShiGo · 30/10/2024 10:16

Thanks everyone. I know I just need to get on with it now that I’ve bought it. I think I’ll do the first dose tonight.
