Ordering mountjaro without photos

fatinfrance · 27/10/2024 19:54

Does anyone have a recommendation of where does and does not require photos when ordering mountjaro in the uk?

Also, I need to collect it from a pharmacy rather than have it delivered. Can I only do that if I order from Superdrug or boots? But I imagine they will be more rigorous? What happens when you pick it up, do they weigh you or anything??

OP posts:

The issue I have is why posters like@SunQueen24 are trying to encourage people to get prescriptions against the prescribing guidelines, because their opinion is more relevant than the rules.

SunQueen24 · 27/10/2024 21:21

I cannot think of an occasion where I’ve collected my prescription from the individual who signed for my prescription.

The checks are pre prescription not post prescription.

When I get my inhalers the untrained pharmacist assistant doesn’t double check I’m asthmatic 🙄

Whether or not you think OP should be able to obtain it is based on the pre-prescription criteria. It’s not checked twice.

I’m not encouraging anyone - I’m just looking critically at a statement made which isn’t accurate. It’s a separate point.

SunQueen24 · 27/10/2024 21:25

Anyway - you can Google it, mounjaro isn’t treated any different to other prescription meds and anyone can collect it on your behalf.

SilenceInside · 27/10/2024 21:26

@SunQueen24 tell me you don't think the OP should be able to get a prescription for Mounjaro then... You think that people who are not obese should be able to use a medication only licensed for those who are.

SunQueen24 · 27/10/2024 21:29

Whether or not I think OP should be able to get a mounjaro prescription is an entirely different point as to whether, factually, a pharmacy will repeat the pre-prescription assessment when someone collects their meds. A prescription is evidence enough of a lawful prescription. Furthermore another person could collect it, so little point weighing the wrong person.

I don’t know OP and it’s not my job to screen her for mounjaro (much like the young girl working at my local boots who dispenses medication she isn’t qualified to prescribe).

And it is not “only licensed” for the obese. Those with BMI’s of 27 can be prescribed it in certain circumstances. Wegovy is licensed for use in individuals with a BMI below even 27 depending on their ethnicity.

SunQueen24 · 27/10/2024 20:12

I agree. I’d rather start at a lower BMI, (still overweight) than have to wait until I gained more weight to start. If people can get it once they’ve hit a healthy BMI it can’t be dangerous to those with a lower BMI.

It is a drug with significant side effects, in a small minority of cases, serious ones. It's about the balance of risk. The balance of risk does not favour the drug for people who are normal weight and seeking cosmetic weight loss, or overweight rather than obese, unless they have other risk factors. Noone reputable or sensible is going to help you obtain drugs that you don't meet the criteria for.

SilenceInside · 27/10/2024 21:36

Do I really need to write out the full prescribing guidelines in every post?! The fact that the prescribing rules take account of diffident ethnicities being regarded as obese at a lower BMI, and people who are overweight and who have weight related health issues, does not mean that there are no rules! It is not discussing this in good faith to present the detail of the prescribing rules as exceptions that mean anyone should be prescribed it.

SunQueen24 · 27/10/2024 21:40

Likewise I don’t have to justify the motive for my perfectly factual replies to this thread. If you feel it’s taking too much of your
time and energy maybe don’t question me on unrelated points.

I get it through Superdrug at a branch with a nurse service and have an appointment every 4 weeks. I have never had photos taken, she does weight and blood pressure, asks how I’ve been doing and then I get given the next pen to leave with.

I personally like that I see the same person every month and have that ongoing supervision. For what OP is asking though, the nurse’s eyes do the job of the photo!

Why are you so desperate to people to agree with you on this? You have your opinion and that’s fine, but not everyone will agree with you.

Hmm I wonder why I think it's a bad plan to advise and encourage people to seek prescription medicine that they aren't suitable for... it's a mystery.

Numans d didn't ask for a photo

Sounds annoying. We don’t have to do that with online providers here in Australia. I just self report my weight each fortnight and they text my script to me.

Wow, so no initial consultation, no seeing someone in person, no pics, just buy it and add your weight?

It’s an over the phone consultation with a registered nurse practitioner, self reporting on weight height measurements etc plus general health conditions etc. Then just fortnightly phone check ins where I report any weight loss or gain, waist measurements and confirm I’ve not had any side effects.

Ok but he or she never sees you in person? They have no idea of your real weight should you chose to lie?

Woozies · 28/10/2024 07:39

I started at a BMI of 28, I said my BMI was 30.
I could have ate like a pig for a fortnight to regain but what would be the point?
I did photos and it was approved straight away.

I have a huge amount of fat on my stomach and even thought my BMI was 2 points lower my height to waist ratio is much higher and I very obviously needed to lose weight.

The last time I got weighed at the GP my BMI was about 36 and my highest BMI was 42

I lost alot but have been stuck at 28 BMI for a year.

Agree - also for someone like you there’s an obvious benefit and you’ll be on the drug for less time and likely need a lower dosage minimising the risk.

No I don’t lie I still weigh 81kgs and would like to get to 75. I’m 175 ish cms tall so 75 would see me at a comfortable manageable healthy weight.
