Do any suppliers NOT contact GP for Mounjaro

Please don't give me any hate. My GP and I do not see eye to eye after they failed me massively and I have a complaint in against them. I am really obese and need help but I don't want any letters going to my GP about starting weight loss injections.

Lots of suppliers make contacting the GP mandatory. Do any not tell them or let you do it yourself? If I can do it myself I will when my complaint is addressed but right now I think my GP would just make life even more difficult. Thank you for any info.

It's just a notification, they don't have to agree to you having it

girljulian · 24/10/2024 10:35

Voy doesn't.

Doggymummar · 24/10/2024 10:37

It's not asking their permission, I think it's really important they know incase if any contraindications you haven't thought of. I even told the dentist this morning incase if any issues with anesthetic.

ChocHotolate · 24/10/2024 10:41

I strongly suspect that most GPs are too busy to give any notifications from these companies more than the quickest of glances and then file them electronically.

SilenceInside · 24/10/2024 10:42

With Asda, you have to enter your GP details to proceed, and then they send a letter to the GP. All that happens is that an admin person makes a note on my record of the medication and what dose has been prescribed, and it's shown on the list of medications that I take (via the NHS app). I've had no contact or discussion about it at all, despite having had several phone calls with a pharmacist in relation to another medication that I take.

Hencewy · 24/10/2024 10:44

It’s important that it’s on record , if your gp has to prescribe certain medications in future, that may need to be be considered…as your digestive transit can slow down with WLJ ( or speed up with side effects,) this can affect the efficacy of certain meds. Honestly, most gps have so little time to read up on letters, at least it will be on your medical record .

They don’t contact your surgery at all?
I don’t mind the DR knowing but I definitely doNot want the receptionist or other staff knowing!

SilverHeels · 24/10/2024 10:45

Voy ask you if you want them to contact your GP or not.

They really REALLY don't care. It's mundane admin updates. Of which they will get 10's a day

2013mummy · 24/10/2024 10:50

Yes please thank you

Oh believe me, our admin would read everything they receive, to find out what people they know are up to!

And? They can't tell anyone. That would be a breach of GDPR and an automatic complaint.

Thank you I appreciate your reply but I will not be using the GP right now due to the complaint.

As others have said, they simply notify them. They don’t seek permission. It’s just so that your medical records show that you are taking it so that future/current prescribing takes it into consideration.

GP cannot veto it unless you have misrepresented an underlying medical condition that is contraindicated for MJ anymore than they can veto medication prescribed by any other clinician. The GP may not approve but, frankly, that kind of tough.

gamerchick · 24/10/2024 11:25

Thing is, if you get some unforseen side effects like kidney problems. It helps them to know how to treat you. These injections aren't risk free.

TheShellBeach · 24/10/2024 11:27

Medino don't tell your GP.

BTW there's a dedicated code thread. You're not allowed to put codes anywhere else.

Gps get a notification of you getting the prescription but a bit on the letter saying if there is misinformation/missing about health they can get in touch with the company.

Please look at the codes thread which I just linked. I've put my Medino code on there if you'd like to use it.

Good luck OP. I've lost 5st and I'm NOT telling my GP about the MOUNJARO.

Thanks everyone. Got some recommendations now so I appreciate the advice.

Realise I am very lucky with my GP after all - I only braved mentioning it to mine as I became hypothyroid (thyroid med doses are linked to weight, so when I lost 5st I was technically taking too much). My GP ran lots of blood tests and called back to say he was really impressed at how good they were (Thyroid tests aside) as I’d had rising cholesterol, fluctuating liver function tests etc. He did an assessment and said that my results were in line with someone 10 years younger and was really supportive. I take a lower dose of meds now and the previous discussions over statins being indicated were now shelved (saving the NHS money as I get my drugs free due to hypothyroidism being one of the conditions for free scripts).
