Mounjaro help desperately needed

I went up to 5mg Monday. I’ve spent the last 48 hours with severe cramping pain and diarrhoea.

Ive been taking anti diarrhoea meds and paracetamol for the pain.

I am still absolutely beside myself with pain. Please please someone tell me it’ll be ok?

I would ask mumsnet to move this to the weight loss injection board.

WhamBhamThankYouMham · 23/10/2024 18:49

I had this about 2 weeks after I moved up to 5. It was awful - I was vomiting too. It did pass within a week, although it was getting progressively better over that week, and I am still on 5mg now 15 weeks later. I haven't ever titrated up again so not sure if the same would happen again but, at the time, someone pointed out it is a doubling of the dose which doesn't happen again in the rest of the dose increases so maybe that's why the side effect is so severe. Not sure but I stuck with it (not sure how tbh!) and am glad I did.

Hi OP, an MNer has suggested we move your thread for you, so hopefully you will get more support on this board.

noclouds · 23/10/2024 18:56

If you have the prescription prescribed to you, you should be able to contact them for support?

Sorry you have reacted like this, but I would get checked out

SilenceInside · 23/10/2024 18:58

@MrBiscuits24 I'm not going to tell you it will definitely get better because I'm not a HCP and I don't know what your circumstances are. If the pain and D&V continue then please do get medical help, and don't take your next scheduled injection unless cleared to do so.

I can say that I had an episode like this on 5mg which did stop and resolve itself. The jump up to 5mg is a doubling of the previous dose which is the only time that happens when moving up doses. It can be unpleasant and produce side effects where none happened on 2.5mg.

TiredOfNames · 23/10/2024 18:58

You need to speak to your prescriber. They're always there for you to report side effects.

Some people do experience issues but I'd let my prescriber know and get some advice.

MrBiscuits24 · 23/10/2024 19:18

I have spoken to my prescriber and it’s a very common side effect but that doesn’t reassure me. I feel utterly awful.

Hope you feel better soon.
i am going to continue taking 2.5g as long as possible as have read should only increase dose if appetite not suppressed.

MrBiscuits24 · 24/10/2024 11:18

I am ok today. Fuck me what a horrendous 48 hours that was. I am going back to 2.5 and then maybe up to a dose and a half because 5mg made me see God.

Thank fuck that is over.

I had something similar going up to 12.5 from 10mg and it was horrific. I've gone back down to 10mg and I'm fine now. If 2.5mg was working for you then stick at it

MargoLivebetter · 24/10/2024 11:30

How were you getting on at the 2.5 dose @MrBiscuits24 ? I'm still on 2.5 and I've been taking MJ for nearly 10 weeks now. For whatever reason I get all the appetite suppression and sense of fullness at that low dose. Hence wondering how you were getting on with it.

SilenceInside · 24/10/2024 11:38

@MrBiscuits24 I am very glad you are feeling better and hope it's a one off for you.

Sandycar · 24/10/2024 12:21

I’ve had similar going up to 7.5mg.
I’d been on 5mg for 3 pens, but was not getting the suppression any more. Have had 2 doses of 7.5 pen so far, each time have felt terrible for 2 days with diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, horrible sulphur burps. Not sure I can carry on with it really.
I’ve had no symptoms at all on my journey so far, and I started in May, so this has been a pretty unpleasant surprise.

you could try 3.75 if you ever start to feel 2.5 not working that what I have done this week after 7 weeks on 2,5

Thehop · 26/10/2024 00:07

I had to drop to 3.75 ml I have a 5ml pen but turn 45 clicks to give myself a lower dose. I ended up in A&E on a drip. Never again, the pain was like labour contractions but without a break.

i hope you feel better soon.
