Hi, I've just been prescribed Mounjaro and it's being dispatched in a few days.

So I was wondering if there were others starting soon who wanted to have a chat.

I hope you’re feeling better now daisylucybess? Best speak to your prescriber or GP if you’re having serious side effects.

Generally I think they are meant to ease off as your body gets used to the new medication but there are things to help reduce symptoms like the kind of food to avoid (heavy, greasy), large meals, fizzy drinks and alcohol. The Voy clinicians confirmed this and also said spicy or strong flavour foods can trigger gastric symptoms so advised plain foods to start with.
Drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep also v important.

It does make me think about the science behind it, that it slows the digestive process right down so the body may get upset at having to digest more slowly than normal.

I hope you’re having a better day 🤞

jaromoun · 11/11/2024 22:23

well I don't think i'm
going to need the Dulcolax!
My tea was a two egg omelette with onion, pepper and a sprinkling of grated cheese and some lambs lettuce on the side. i ate about 2/3rds as felt full. I had bowel rumblings about an hour after.....

Sorry am catching up from a couple pages back, I just wanted to pass this on (as have been under the dr long term for constipation) re meds to help it.

So thinking of the science behind WLI’s and the slowing effect it has on digestion, it may be best to avoid stimulant laxatives (like Ducolax). If the digestive transit has been slowed down hormonally, I wonder if it may be confusing and disruptive to the bowel to be told ‘slow slow’ from the WLI and then ‘go go go’ from stimulant laxatives. Stool softeners are more gentle on the system (Macrogol or lactulose are a couple of examples) and don’t risk overstimulating the bowel and causing lazy bowel syndrome. Obvs as rare one offs I don’t think Ducolax would be a problem but if taken regularly would (Gp’s advised against regular use of stimulant laxatives to treat constipation)

jaromoun · 13/11/2024 15:19

@KeepCalmandGiveItaGo thanks for that. luckily everything is all ship shape and shiny now 😀
lactuloae tastes so vile though

BleachedJumper · 13/11/2024 11:12

Lovely to see some positive results so far, and of the latest comments the side effects generally sound manageable which is great news.

I also started on the 29th of October, did my third jab yesterday. I had good results the first two weeks (6 and then 4 lbs) so I’m expecting a much steadier, hopefully 2 lbs a week rate from here. I just want it to hurry up though!

Does anyone else feel hyper aware of their size/weight while you’re actively attempting to lose weight? Before starting I knew I was uncomfortable in my clothes occasionally, and would have the odd temper tantrum when I had to get dressed up and nothing looked nice, but I was almost just ignoring it otherwise. Since I’ve started, I almost feel like I’ve never been bigger. I’m very critical of myself when I look in the mirror and feel like I want to hide under baggy jumpers, and not just because I’m so flipping freezing! I wasn’t sure if anyone else could relate to this feeling, when I’ve done well with losing 10lbs so far, but just feeling like I’m a long way off from where I want to be.

Sorry for the indulgent rant! It’s a marathon not a sprint, positive mental attitude etc etc.

Yes I can totally relate to this BleachedJumper I guess it brings it all to the forefront and maybe heightens the self awareness? Have been tutting at my tum (which is also an awful apron following two huge bump pregnancies in recent years) Trying to practice a bit of positive self talk, have got a lot to lose and it does feel like a bit of a mountain (physically and mentally)

Cosmocol or Laxido is much better, the flavours are actually quite nice! Just stir in the powders in a glass of water, I have it once daily and has kept things happy and moving for several years now 😊
Yeah not a fan of lactulose either although it is an alternative non stimulant med

So glad things have settled down for you! 🩷

Choux · 13/11/2024 15:37

yarnbarn · 13/11/2024 14:21

@Choux

If a whole dose from a 5mg pen is 5mg then taking 3/4 of a dose from a 5mg will give you 3.75mg.

It will give you 3/4 of a full dose, the liquid is still the same strength at 5mg though?

It's like not wanting to drink too much alcohol so instead of having a pint of beer you have a half pint. You drink less beer so you have less alcohol.

I get that, but the strength of the alcohol hasn't changed

You are right that the strength of the liquid / alcohol hasn't changed. But the amount of active ingredient/ alcohol you inject / consume is different depending on the volume of the dose / drink.

daisylucybess · 13/11/2024 12:19

thank you ,i am seeing a doctor at tea time ...never seen a doc ,for 3 years but ,i was very weirdly ill , yes i think my blood sugar ,could have been very low.

Great you’re able to see a dr today, might be worth getting your blood pressure checked? (I think if that goes low it can also cause dizziness/ feeling unwell)
Remember to eat, even if you don’t feel like it 🌸

Ralala · 13/11/2024 12:34

Hi all, I’m on week 2. Down 7lb in week one but I had horrendous diarrhoea in week 1 and struggled to keep anything in. Thankfully that has stopped but I suspect helped with the weight loss! Weigh in for week 2 is Monday .

i just got an email from medexpress about ordering my new pen. Im torn between staying on 2.5 or moving up. I have been completely fine this week but last week my side effects were bad. Is anyone else sticking with 2.5 for a second block?

Just about to take jab 2 tonight and was planning to see how this week went re: whether to stick with 2.5 or go up. Suppression has definitely been much less last couple of days so if I have the same in week 2 am thinking may go to 5 but ease in with 3.75 by counting clicks

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 13/11/2024 16:21

BleachedJumper · 13/11/2024 12:42

@Ralala I decided to order the 5mg, my thinking was that it gives me the flexibility to continue on 2.5 by counting the clicks if that’s what feels most comfortable, but also if I got to week 5 or 6 on 2.5 and found I had no suppression, I can go up to 3.75/5mg. The cost of the pen was the same, so I feel like it made sense to me to have the range of options.

I’m on Jab 3 of 2.5, and intend to use my bonus dose for week 5, so I haven’t yet decided if I’ll continue using the 5mg pen as a 2.5 yet.

Yes this ☝️

Gives cover if needed or equally can stick to 2.5

I’m finding myself in quite a happy place with it. I’m not feeling hungry, but I can still eat and enjoy it. I had soup today for lunch, when I’d usually have at least some crisps and fruit to go with it. And bread. So it was nice to feel satisfied after that. And now I’m having something nicer for tea, not feeling hungry but that I could eat. We had croissants at work today and it crossed my mind for a second that I could have one, but I wasn’t fussed. I still thought about it. I’d happily stay like this on 2.5 if it stayed, but I assume I’ll start getting hungry again and need to move up.

piscofrisco · 13/11/2024 13:54

@CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets yes! I'm only on day two and I keep finding myself thinking what to have for lunch or whatever, then not fancying it, then not knowing what to do without the routine of it sort of thing. So odd.

I've made myself have a protein mousse now, as I had only had 4 blackberries all day and a bit of lasagne sauce just to taste it, and two cups of tea-but I just don't feel hungry in the slightest.

It's weird isn't it. I kind of don't know what to do without food as my primary goal 😂

Weigh and jab 2 day tomorrow W1 D7 so will report back on this thread.

daisylucybess · 13/11/2024 17:41

hi saw doctor ,and said likely ,i had a virus.. he said mounjaro ..was happy for me to stay on it. did not think it caused me ,my illness issue .so will carry on with jab as normal

My provider would only allow me to buy the 2.5 for the first month-how did you manage to get the 5? I had great suppression for a week (I’m week 2 day 4) but I’m so wanting to snack today and feeling I’m relying heavily on will power I don’t really have!

bananasplice · 13/11/2024 20:34

Is there anyone with MedExpress that wants to do a referral code swap?
I need to order my next pen this week so happy to use someone's and then they use mine?
Or sure if that is allowed ...

I’ll swap codes with you. Did they send us one automatically?

morbidcuriosity · 13/11/2024 20:59

@bananasplice I think they are only for 1st time customers.. I may be wrong though..

morbidcuriosity · 13/11/2024 21:02

@KeepCalmandGiveItaGo Just a quick one, If you are only on jab 2, i would strongly suggest you do the whole 4 weeks at 2.5.. Ive been reading these threads a lot as have a lot of time on my hands and loads of the october november starters have gone up early and then suffered bad side affects..
give your body a chance to get used to the drug, before going up

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 13/11/2024 21:17

Thanks morbidcuriosity a very good point, I think I read some of those a couple weeks back but had forgotten about that! Yeah you’re right, will stick with 2.5 until have got month 1 under my belt 👍 can always take the jab a day early if needed! :)

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 13/11/2024 21:28

For anyone interested I found this mini talk about insulin resistance and weight gain really good and helpful to understand what our bodies are doing (trying to do) when we eat. Explains how we can end up too much being stored as fat and tired with cravings.
Also advice on how to combat and I think MJ will be so beneficial in regulating blood sugar and help re sensitise cells to insulin again (so we’re satisfied after eating)

Check it out(only 4 mins long):

whateveryousay · 13/11/2024 21:36

Hi, can I join please? I’m on W1 D2 so early days! Some appetite suppression, mainly around portion sizes. Still eating, just a lot less than usual. So far no unwanted side-effects at all…long may that last!

@BleachedJumper How long does a pen last once opened? I'm really interested in doing what you've suggested but thought it only lasted 30 days so wouldn't doing smaller doses cover you for more than 30 days?

Notadream · 13/11/2024 22:52

Question for all the folk that have already, or are thinking of using the 'clicks' to get a lower dose. Does the pen still inject without being on the number '1' indicator ? Or are you using an insulin needle to get the dose out ? Asking for a friend 😁

Choux · 13/11/2024 22:55

@Notadream you can dial anywhere between 0 and 1 and inject using the regular pen needle. No special equipment required.

RayonSunrise · 14/11/2024 06:31

Morning all. W1D3 and I am not finding it too hard to keep a tight control on portion sizes. This could be a placebo effect, but I'll take it!

No other side effects of note.

Mrsredlipstick · 14/11/2024 07:25

Morning all. W2 D4.
A little bit hungrier yesterday. I had to eat smoke mackerel for super. I couldn't face anything acidic like yoghurts. No alcohol cravings in fact the absolute opposite.
I've got a really growly stomach.
