Hi, I've just been prescribed Mounjaro and it's being dispatched in a few days.

So I was wondering if there were others starting soon who wanted to have a chat.

@Zamerhammer you have to provide updates on weight for every order. Sometimes you may be asked for photos as well. Different suppliers have different cut off points so you need to check as your BMI gets close to 25 but many will prescribe to a BMI of 22-23 and maintenance plans are being developed so some suppliers will let you stay on it long term for a bit of extra support rather than being cut off.

Constipation - water, veg, spice and pulses are your friends if you want to avoid needing laxatives.

Appetite - I always feel hungrier in the second half of the week even 8 months in. But practicing a bit of willpower is good prep for when you are on maintenance.

Dreamqueen · 07/11/2024 10:14

Just done my week 2 jab. I've lost 2lbs during week 1. I've weighed on proper scales today as my ones at home are unreliable. I had thoughts of food all yesterday so definitely was ready for todays jab.

I can't eat beef / dairy so those collagens aren't suitable for me unfortunately. Has anyone found a good vegan one?

Definitely not vegan but there's plenty of options for marine collagen if it's just beef you avoid.

I know will powders do a vegan one too but I have no idea if it’s any good I’m afraid.

Re: the constipation:

I’m a bit of a veteran at this having had a chronic problem for 20+ years. I have an autoimmune which I’m sure fuels the issue. I find Macrogol powders the best. They are gentle for long term use if needed and do not cause lazy bowel, the senna types were advised against by dr’s for long term use due to this (lazy bowel). I have found the powders by far the best and most gentle (never had any side effects) and comfortably keep things moving, soft and regular every day.

You can get them on prescription, I don’t think they are available OTC. Common brand names are Laxido or Cosmocol

Also they are very adjustable, I take slightly more or less of the powders (mixed in water) depending on how things are moving. Get flavoured though, avoid the Plain one (not nice!)

winersrollingin · 07/11/2024 10:40

Good luck all- I am 5 weeks in and have stepped on the scales and am done 7.7Kg- so one stone and nearly 3lbs. It takes me from BMI 30.8 to 28.2.

If you aren't sure whether to do It I hugely recommend!! As for provider I really recommend MedExpress as they send more needles so you can get that bonus extra dose out of your pen. I have just received my first order from them and they send six whereas Voy who I went with first sent only 4. I had to purchase extra needles to get that bonus dose but wouldn't have had to if I'd have gone with Medexpress to start

winersrollingin · 07/11/2024 10:41

I'm with Med express so will check out their criteria.

Do let us know if you find out!

Choux · 07/11/2024 10:41

@Zamerhammer they seem ok for two years as long as your BMI stays above 23.5.

Hello, can I join please? I'll start with my anxious questions.... I'm so sorry if this has been answered already but I'm too excited to read the whole thread! My pen will arrive today. Can I just inject straight away and then put the rest of the pen in the fridge? Or does it have to be refrigerated first for a bit? As jn, once delivered shall I put it in the fridge for a few hours before my first jab?
Next question - I'm going out tonight and may have a couple glasses of wine as meeting a friend I haven't seen in ages. Is this a silly day to start? Will I feel awful tomorrow? (It's just that thurs and fri are my WFH days so any side effects should hopefully have passed by the time I'm in the office on Monday) So many questions whizzing through my brain. I'm on the one-hand excited to get started as have been struggling to loose weight for so long and hoping this will ease me into consistent healthy eating and exercise rather than the all in, then give up approach that's plagued me for years. But I'm also really bloody scared!
Will read the whole thread now..... thanks anyone for any advice!

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 07/11/2024 10:51

Hi Jabtastic doing an online search it looks like there are quite a few vegan options out there, but haven’t used so sorry I can’t give a recommendation. The top hits seem to be Feel, Raw Beauty Lab and Vegetology

Jabtastic · 07/11/2024 10:59

Thanks very much for the tips 😀

I’m with medexpress too and will probably stay with them this month but I didn’t receive any extra needles- just 4. I’m going to buy some insulin needles for the bonus dose but just thought I’d mention it in case that’s a deciding factor in anyone’s decision making.

Hi andfinally10 and welcome! 👋

This is a lovely supportive thread and I’ve been so glad to find it. I took my first injection last night and am also excited and a bit nervous!

So if you want to take it straight away after it arrives that’s fine as it comes in a cool pack. One thing I didn’t realise though was the advice is to let the pen come up to room temp before dosing (take it out the fridge for 10-15 mins). I don’t think it affects the medicine to inject it cold, but is supposed to make it more comfortable at room temp. It just meant my evening dose was a bit later than intended while waiting that 10-15 mins.

I probably would hesitate to have wine tonight after injecting, as wouldn’t want it to bring on side effects, but there may be others on here with experience of this (injecting and alcohol). Maybe play it safe, would you still have a fun night with your friend on no or low alcohol? If not I’d probably wait until tomorrow to inject as you don’t want to be worrying about it when you’re out.

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 07/11/2024 11:16

Oops sorry quoted the wrong poster! That was meant for andfinally10! 😅

Quitelikeit · 07/11/2024 11:20

I didn’t realise they monitor you.

There must be a way to get around this?

There are people who have dropped to 10st etc and are still getting it

It's a prescription medication. Of course you are monitored whilst on it.

Being 10st after having lost weight doesn't stop you being able to access it. You can continue to take it for up to two years even with a healthy BMI as part of a long term treatment plan. But if your BMI gets too low the prescribers have a duty of care to no longer prescribe it.

andfinally10 · 07/11/2024 11:29

@KeepCalmandGiveItaGo thanks for the reply, super helpful! Ok so I'll let it come to room temp before plunging it in. By the time my nerves settle and I'm brave enough it'll take that long anyway I suspect 😂
My instinct re wine tonight is the same... maybe I'll wait until tomorrow then! I'll see if others have any advice. Thanks so much!

I'm with Voy and they seem to only ask for photos every 6 months. I think their criteria are slightly different too because my starting BMI was about 28 (with other medical issues) and they approved me when others wouldn't.

redavocado · 07/11/2024 11:32

Sorry, I've also quoted the wrong post! @Zamerhammer my last post was meant to be in response to yours.

BrownJenkins · 07/11/2024 11:36

@Quitelikeit Do you have a problem with being monitored or were you just wondering in general? A friend of mine was over 25 stone when she started. For her a loss of 10 stone wouldn't be that bad.

jay55 · 07/11/2024 11:41

Week two, day four and suppression has finally kicked in big time.
Yesterday I was much later making my lunch, got a call half way through and totally forgot to finish my food.
Today food noise is pretty much gone. Not even mentally planning lunch.
It's such a relief. These things kicked in faster when on the other drugs but the side effects were greater.

Well done to all losing, it's motivating to hear everyone's results.

Arglefraster · 07/11/2024 12:16

Still not sure if it's suppression or horror of the cost/photo that's keeping me on the straight & narrow but barring headaches (& were coming down with a cold so may have been a precursor to that) I don't have symptoms either....except for a weird one, anyone else?

the layers of thinking in my head have reduced so usually I'm thinking & there are two or three levels over thinking about what I'm thinking/thinking about what I'm thinking about what I'm thinking (hopefully you know what I mean) & then one or two with music/completely different thoughts. But today & yesterday I have had music in my head constantly & only a couple of thinking layers but the music is the loudest/biggest layer.

Pumpkinforever · 07/11/2024 13:01

Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 @winersrollingin thats really good. I hope I can achieve that in 5 weeks.

Mrsredlipstick · 07/11/2024 14:01

@andfinally10 you might find you can't drink after you inject anyway. I still had booze noise three years after giving up the grog. Nearly a week in I just don't fancy it.
